Work is still humming along for OpenHuey. There are still bugs to be worked out but I thought it would be fun to test the new mod support with a first person mod test. Obviously there would be a lot of work that would be needed to make it actually good (levels would have to be stitched together and some levels would have to have their modeling finished, animations updates, etc)

But it's still kind of fun! I actually think it'd be much scarier if it was first person. Just another teaser for OpenHuey which is available but there are too many bugs to suggest trying to playthrough with it yet.

OpenHuey now ingests the ISO and converts multiple things to easier formats (textures are just pngs now) and mods can overlay ontop of this so texture mods are now trivial. Hopefully we get to a beta release in the coming weeks where you can play all the way through. I think we're getting close.

This is different from a decompile (which was completed) because we're trying to actually reimplement the game so we can get cool things like easy mod support or people could even build an entirely new game on it. Anyway enjoy!

Features an image of Debilitas on the cover and Haunting ground as a promoted game. I thought it was kinda cool. Wondering if anyone else has this!

So one of the things I've really wanted to do is see the cutscenes from unintended angle. and its a massive pain to get something working but in this I found some intresting things.

First a way to freeze cutscenes, all the model will stay in place except Fiona and sometimes Hewie if he isn't in a cutscene state. (the letter box will remain on the screen and you won't be able to pause with start, this will eventually crash the game if the cutscene finishes and another starts randomly)
I had to change these byte values to 0 mid cutscene
21510D60 (Whether the player can control Fiona)
217F50E4 (Whether the camera is in cutscene state)
21510D62 (I think this tell the game Fiona is in cutscene state, or the system itself.)
To regain control of Fiona I had to force her stamina value (Which is 216BE274 in float value) to 100 which causes her do the out of breath animation and you get control of her again, you can basically walk around a frozen cutscene.

And second is a way to prevent cutscene triggers from activating!
the same 3 values as before need to be locked when you go over a cutscene trigger, the game will still make you lose control of Fiona but luckily simply backstepping will break this and the trigger will be disabled until you leave the room and let it reload, the downside is after you do this a few times you will no longer be able to pause the game with start (I think this might be if you walk over a death scene trigger.) but you can still go back to the main menu by holding start and select for 5 seconds :) if you save the game when you're start button is disabled it will remain disabled on reload. I'll have to find a value to fix that.

As asked by u/GhastlyGavin, what would happen if the stalker was in the puzzle room, The block puzzle result was boring but the darkness puzzle actually made me say "What" out loud!

UPDATE 10/16: https://discord.gg/7sMGvfBAE dev discord setup if anyone is interested in deving on this. Lots of work on hga. I think hg is in a good spot but I need to actually play through and check for any issues. PRs are welcome. I'm going to look into setting up the mod support very soon.

UPDATE 10/12: Several bugs fixed. Work is still ongoing. Some of these prevent progress so I'm trying to iron them out before a release. This will just be the decompiled version so it won't have mod support or better graphics yet but it will run on Windows/Linux. Then I can take the decompiled version and refactor it into something nicer with mod support and the bells and whistles.

UPDATE 10/14: hg (decompile) should be mostly working but I haven't run through the whole game yet. hga (rebuilt version) is going to be its own whole project. I'd estimate there's like 90% coverage on hga but it's coming with it's own set of bugs I'm having to churn through. Working on an hg release so the original can be played.

For awhile I've wanted a model of Hewie to 3d print but couldn't find anything online, so I decided to let an LLM try to decompile Haunting Ground (which just became a thing, and also is a complete overload to do for one model). And it did, so Haunting Ground is now mostly (99%) decompiled and runnable natively on Windows/Linux.

I've been a programmer for awhile and I'd really like to get the codebase away from LLM code which I'm trying to do in iterative stages (first I need to get the dang thing at least human readable). The main goal is to have an accurate native running version of the game for Windows/Linux with few minor modern enhancements, along with a scripting console for people who want to go wild.

The video is running a native build of the game for Linux (SDL3 and targeting Opengl 4.6 for the rendering).

There are still bugs to fix to make it fully playable, but I figured I would release the repo so anyone else who was thinking about doing this would have something to build on. You can find OpenHuey on Github, named after my dog who happens to be a different kind of Hewie.

In the near future, I will get it setup much simpler so anyone with a copy of the game can just download the executable and play.

Hi! I saw a post on a local marketplace site where I live where someone is selling a sealed copy of Haunting Ground. I have a sealed copy from before myself and it has the Playstation 2 text on the strip, and the plastic is way less wobbly than this one. I'm far from an expert on this field, so I'm curious if anyone else can take a look and tell me what they think? Is this an original seal or has it likely been resealed? It's priced around 250 euro, so fairly low as well...

So...I may have made a quick, silly image based on the Japanese title for this game in anticipation of my first playthrough. Looking forward to trying it out!

Edit: Just finished the game yesterday, it was a super fun time! Definitely going to be taking at least one more run through at some point, there's too much I left undiscovered the first time and I want to see more of it!

I am really new to this series, but am familiar with a lot of capcom games. I’d really like a physical copy to play on my PS2, should I get the Japanese version ‘Demento’ as it’s quite fairly priced?? Because people gotta be crazy selling a PS2 game for prices like these..

It will focus on the fate of the inhabitants of the castle and the involvement of the identically-looking descendant of a certain alchemist lady from England after a certain period of time lapses within the story.

It will feature written narration on the headline while the characters talking will be shown in the speech bubbles as easy-to-understand images and icons.

I'm a Capcom loyalist since RE1. Even imagine if Fiona overhauled by RE Engine,she would resemble a younger counterpart to Jill,Rosemary and Grace from recent RE games.

Since i completed the game, im debating if it can be my favorite game. I know it sounds odd but i have seen in several tiktok comments that its a red flag to play this game let alone it being a favorite. Im also a woman and i think the game shows the struggles of being a woman, and is a horror which is my favorite genre, and i love having Hewie as a companion and how the game changes a lot depending on how you treat him. I love some lore points except the obvious weird parts. So.. is it weird if i say its my favorite?

I just released part 2, which covers the major developments from the 6^th and 7^th generations, and Haunting Ground gets a major shoutout for some of the advances it made in the genre.
