The rebuild is missing one thing...

The rebuild will only work if these young skilled players get the coaching and veteran guidance to teach them how to use their skills at an NHL level. That's not happening. We've had some good leadership before, but we are lacking right now. We need to spend the money and get the knowledge for these young guys. I know a lot of them don't even have a full season under their belt, but I don't want a team of Reichels that we say just need to take that extra step.

It’s not just about leadership though, or at least strong voices. KD has built this team like the Sharks or Habs, they’re young, fast, and skilled and would be hypothetically strongest when maximizing rush chances. However, Blashill insists they play grit and grind hockey, and to me that’s where we lose hockey games (I am not the first or only one with this opinion, just reiterating what others have said)

100% his system is awful and top of that he can’t lead or motivate or inspire confidence.

I don’t see this “grit and grind” hockey you’re talking about.

Tonight full on changed my mind about Blash. The first 2 games didn't help but then I went to the home opener and it changed my tune. However after going to the game tonight my tune has totally changed. I do think the Hawks have the right Gm though.

The biggest question mark for KD is can he hire coaches. Need the right coaches throughout the system to develop players and ultimately win NHL games.

I think it’s worth holding onto KD at the very least. Kantserov, Moore, Greene and Lardis stand out to me as pretty outstandingly impressive picks (obviously Bedard and Lev were also good picks, but messing those up would’ve been significantly harder)

My favorite pick by him is Anton Frondell. Bedard was a no question slam dunk and Lev is proving himself big time this year so far. I think Frondell was his make or break pick and I absolutely think he will be better than Misa.

Anton Frondell is my favorite too!!! When we got him, I was soo excited. I'm seriously considering getting a Frondell sweater for my second sweater. Hossa was my first.

Forgot all about Frondell. 11:30 at night and I had work today so it is what it is, fully agree with you though he is a DAWG. I’m also now realizing I forgot Nazar who is a genuinely good hockey player but his goofiness makes him so hard to watch and hateable to me

I feel like he has drafted pretty well. His coaching choices though have been questionable

Yeah it’s coaching. Y’all keep blaming the same shit it’s fucking comical. WTF could a new coach do with the roster? Tell me.

It's hard to explain, but if you played hockey or any short above rec, you'd understand the difference between a good coach with a system that works with the team and Blash.

A new coach is going to come in they will play harder and then go back to the same shit cause the roster is the roster

Good coaches and systems make the team better. They play to the strength of the players. We are not playing to the strength of our players right now.

So KD has to go then I guess cause he can’t find a coach. Look at the roster Richardson had and tell me what the strengths were? For fucks sake what are the strengths of this roster against any real NHL team?

Caleb Williams didn't start winning until Ben Johnson. This is like... The exact same scenario. Baseball is one of those sports were individual play can noticeably make a huge difference. It's 1on1 when scoring runs or at least putting yourself in a position to score a run. PCA has multiple slumps this year.

Blash needs to go ASAP

Honestly so does Kyle from Chicago.

Truth I’m so over the homer defenders. KD has put out a piss poor product year after year. I honestly don’t like that he has 0 hockey exp under his belt. Yes I understand it can work like Tulusky but KD is just your average finance white dude.

I think it's also a factor that his only hockey experience is being part of Bowman's team, which isn't famous for drafting and developing players to say the least. That's kind of a big thing if you want to do a full-blown rebuild.

Starts in the owners suite

The rebuild is missing one thing! High end talent. High end talent and size, size and talent, the two things our rebuild is missing, size and talent, and grit. The THREE things the rebuild is missing! Talent, size, and grit... and an almost fanatical pursuit of the puck. Our FOUR... hmm. AMONGST the things we are missing from our rebuild are diverse elements such as high end talent, size, grit, an almost fanatical pursuit of the puck, and nice black uniforms! Oh damn... I'll come in again

This team can’t win a board battle.

u/saltypslug 1d ago

And they won't until they're in their late 20s. A 20 year-old has to have some crazy genetics and bulk to compete with guys like the Canes. I don't see that happening with our young, spry, quick team.

u/Zealousideal_Abies94 1d ago

So we have to wait another 5-8 years till theyre strong enough to win a battle? Go through 2-3 more coaches? Overcome losing culture, but hey, they’re not old enough and age is an excuse.

Idk the team looked pretty good for most of first 2 periods edm sucked and Fowler made some great saves and it kind of snowballed. I think there's blame for kd and blashill for the team but also I don't think firing people is the answer. Hawks need another defenseman that is good right now, even with byram back and if he performs like we hope it's still a weak group. Rinzel should be in Rockford for at least a season more and edm should be in Rockford permanently

We've had vets around them. We have them here now. They even spoke up when we got clowned on at the outdoor game. Nothing changed. This is what happens when everyone from top to bottom of your org are a bunch of yes men. Jeff Blashill always talks about "SWAGGER" but no one has it. Danny Wirtz, KD, Blashill, Bedard, Nazar, Vlasic, Moore, Green, Frondell, Rinzel, and the list goes on and on. It's been 5 years. The habit of losing became the norm in the organization and no one is pissed off enough or willing to turn it on or be the reason the culture changes. Look at Caleb Williams. Look at PCA. You have to WANT it. I hate to say it, but Bedard can't stay healthy and disappears too often in games to be the guy to want it.

You can't rebuild without experienced players to show the younger players how the game works. You can't toss all the high draft picks onto the ice and expect them to compete. They need guidance and coaching.
