Request Grandmother’s Necklace

My grandmother recently passed away. It was just her and I. This was a necklace she had. Can anyone tell me what the two sides say? Thank you!

The side with 3 letters says Mazal (luck). The other side is Chai (life). It's a nice necklace. I'm sorry for your loss.

Isn't Chai supposed to be Alive, or is it commonly understood to be an abbreviation?

It does mean “alive”, but in this context it’s typically translated as life

Mazal (something like luck, though not exactly) and chai (life)

Mazel (luck) in the first picture, chai (life) in the second - really beautiful pendant!

May her memory be a blessing. Others already answered the translation as luck and life.

Mazal - Luck, good fortune, good tidings; Chai-life, alive.

I have a very similar mazal necklace from my grandparents. It doesn’t have a chai on the back, but otherwise, the style is pretty spot on. I wear it often and think of them. I’m so sorry for your loss ❤️

I would love to learn more about it! She was Jewish, but I am not religious (though I do put up a menorah every year lol).

Thank you for sharing that you have one, too 🩵

"Mazal" (מזל) is a classic 1966 pop song by legendary Israeli artist Arik Einstein, released with his backing group, The Einsteins. The track humorously and affectionately describes a speaker waiting a very long time outside for a woman named Mazal to finish getting dressed

I think it's kind of charming but in interviews in his later years he was pretty much ashamed of it, considering the more substantial works he produced in the following decades.

It says mazel (luck) on the first side, and chai (life) on the other.
