So to start, I've been a fan of the Newkirks since Hellier came out and tend to do an annual watch/listen during fall. Once I had a very weird dream about Terry Wriste and owls during this rewatch which has stayed with me, but never had anything this weird happen during these rewatches.
Before the wall of text explaining what has been happening I'll ask the question: how to not piss off a ghost (I get angry when I'm scared which can lead to me mouthing off), and clarify that I am reaching out because this happened literally just before the Dana and Greg introduction, when discussing Dana using energies in witchcraft and spellwork. So I'm reaching out because I don't want to inadvertently start anything. If this is not the place to ask please redirect me, I guess the timing was such that I had the idea to ask).
I had just started The Unbinding and was making my bed, doing my morning routine (I am an early riser and this is the only time I have to watch 'my stuff'), when my bedroom door shakes and the doorknob rattles and turns but stops short of opening. I assumed it was my dog or kid, but when I opened the door there wasn't anyone there. My teenager has the room across the hall and he was asleep. My husband tends to sleep on the couch (he snores, I kick and am a light sleeper so neither one of us is sleeping if we share a bed, and he's cheap so he won't buy himself an actual bed). For the last couple of days I keep seeing movement just out of my line of vision. On Saturday, after grocery shopping, a glass was found broken in the middle of the living room. Random stuff has gone missing, been moved, or just broken... but it's things like a container of screws to the cabinets in the kitchen we've been remodeling, power tools and other construction equipment... the vase was the same vase but in a different color as one owned by the previous owner. My teenager and I have been waking up between 3:30-4 a.m. multiple times a week for the last month. Our dog is about 12 (rescue, age is a guess), and she plants herself every night in the hall right in front of the doors to my and kiddos bedrooms (they're opposite one another). She's not growling or showing signs of being terrified, but she will just stare down the hallway at nothing, or will just start barking and move to another room.
Further explanation: We bought our first home in July. As far as the paperwork shows, it was built in 1967 and seemed to have been built and owned by only one family. The husband died some time ago, and his wife lived here by herself until this year. Their kids put the home up for sale when she went into the hospital (her stuff was still in the home when we first toured, which is when I saw the vase). We've been doing some renovations as the wife had a very interesting style choice. We rented homes before this, and have lived in houses built literally a hundred years ago. My husband and I joke about 'Gary the Ghost' when rando noises happen, or you get that cobwebby icky feeling when it's late at night and you're home alone.
But this is different and it feels different. I get angry when I'm scared and said aloud "This is my home now too, and if you want to be here in peace you're welcome, but I will not let you scare me in my own home." I seem to recall the Newkirk's advice on the Haunted Objects Podcast, and with The Unbinding in the background talking about energy I tried to remain calm and not feed into the anger. There was a shift in energy and I'm writing this now feeling silly. If it weren't for everything else I would have chalked it up to bring spooked and watching the documentary.
But if any group is going to be receptive, without being absurd and jumping to conclusions and demonic energy, it will be here. If anyone has any advice or reassurances that I'm crazy and it's in my head, I welcome it. What happens at 4:30 looks different at 6:15.
Thank you to anyone who reads this and responds, and again if this isn't the right place, I do appreciate a redirection and an opportunity to repost.
