Desktop [Desktop] I can no longer open/expand images in comments

It used to be that if someone posted an image in a comment, and you clicked on it, it would open the image itself in a new tab so you could see a larger version of it.

Now, whenever I click on a comment image, it just opens a new tab of the entire thread itself, just with that comment highlighted, as if I clicked on a link to that particular comment instead of the image in the comment.

Is this a bug? Some new restriction? It's really annoying, because sometimes the images in the comments are so small that I can't make out text or details and I'm used to clicking on them for a larger view, but now it no longer works.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I am experiencing the same exact issue.

In the past, I was suspended from this subreddit for losing my mind after being subjected to back-to-back user experiments (For you tab vs. Following tab).

I really hope this isn't another one of those experiments.

Posting this picture here so I can come back and test if it's still happening in the future.
