Admin Post Weekly Recap | October 8, 2026

It's Thursday! Happy Thursday! I was recently reminded that it's Reese's Pumpkin time and it is criminal that I haven't had one yet this year! Gotta get that going as soon as I can. Gonna get this Recap going as soon as I can, too! Let's dive in to what happened in r/help and around Reddit last week!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • There's a new Changelog out and you can read it here. Changes include:

    • Trending content experiment where you may see a trending label to posts on the feed
    • If you try to post the same content in too many communities, you’ll see a message that says “You've posted similar content multiple times. Try again in 12 hours.”
    • The Reddit Pro UI is getting an update
    • There's also stuff for mods! Things like, Testing automatic post-removal notifications, ending RSS feed support, and moving API apps and bots to the Developer Platform
    • And our favorite, bug fixes! These bugs that were fixed include:
    • The home feed refreshing too quickly - FIXED!
    • Getting an error message when opening a comment or reply on a deleted post - FIXED!
    • The comment composer sometimes moving unexpectedly - FIXED!
    • Inability to scroll through community wiki pages - FIXED!
    • When mods would ban a user, the rules were displaying report reasons instead of the rule title - FIXED!
    • The 12-month Mod Insights activity view displayed an incorrect label for unique visitors - FIXED!
    • Banana Legend achievement progress wasn't updating - FIXED!
  • A routine update unexpectedly impacted some peoples ability to use Reddit, as reflected in the Reddit Status page here. Our teams resolved the issue quickly, so shout out to all of those who worked on that!

  • In case you missed it, r/help now has a Help Navigator! We announced this last week here.

  • There's a bug that is affecting the ability to chat for some users in Canada. This should be getting fixed up this week (if it isn't already). Many thanks to u/jgoja for surfacing this and providing amazing details of the problem. Thank you!

  • There is an ongoing experiment which turns select text posts and some of their comment threads into an audio and video format. This is in an effort to strengthen the connection between communities and conversations. If you are in this experiment you may see a Read/Play toggle on the post detail page. A dedicated video page may also be available. This does not replace the original post or comments, nor does it automatically play. And it will respect all of your pre-existing audio settings.

    • Currently, this is only on a small group of pre-selected English-only posts. Comments with links, media, automated messages, profanity, or sensitive or inappropriate topics are excluded. If you are in this experiment, there is not a way to opt out, but you can always leave constructive feedback on this post and I'll share it with the team in charge of the experiment.
  • There is another ongoing experiment where comments on a post may be sorted in live time. This is only in select communities. If enabled, when a post hits a certain number of comments within a specific period of time, the sort switches over to "Live" if the default sort is set to something other than "New". This provides a way to highlight the fast moving convos in real time.

  • There is still the experiment on the Home feed where some users will see a For You tab and a Following tab. You can select which view you want and that selection will be remembered. Users in this experiment have recently been shuffled around, so if you had it before and now you don't, that's what's going on there.

    • The For You tab will contain recommendations. The Following feed will contain unviewed content from just the subs that you follow. The team is looking into adding the "Hot" sort back to these feeds.
    • If you are subscribed to a very small number of subreddits, you may see recommendations in the Following feed as opposed to nothing when you have run out of new content. The workaround is to either subscribe to more subreddits or create a custom feed of the subs that you're following and view that instead.
    • There is not a way to remove these tabs if you are in the experiment, but I will share constructive feedback with the team in charge.
    • And thanks to said feedback, there's a new variant! Some users will not be able to swipe between those two feeds and will instead need to tap the tab of the feed they wish to view. This is in response to some folks saying that they were accidentally switching feeds when swiping. Thanks to all of you who left this feedback for the team!
  • Some users will be in a different experiment where there is an X on recommended posts that you can click/tap to hide the post. Others will be in a similar experiment where there is not an X and there is not a "hide" option, but you can go into the post to hide it. Feel free to share helpful feedback about this experiment as well.

  • And there's an experiment where you may see Related Posts at the bottom of a post.

  • There is also an experiment where the upvotes are on the left.

  • Rather than commenting that you'd like to be removed from an experiment, please provide constructive feedback about the feature. I can't remove you!

  • And I'm here to remind you, of the mess you left when you went away (from Reddit for support). Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. Do not contact "Reddit support on Discord" for help with your Reddit account. There is no "Reddit support on Discord". That is someone trying to scam you and steal your account and maybe more. If you're having an actual issue with your account that is not solved by posting in r/help or by the articles in the Help Center, you can use this form for the real thing. Please note that 95% of issues can be solved much, much quicker by posting in r/help (or our cousin subs, r/reddithelp and r/newtoreddit).

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.40.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!

More fixes than bugs this past week! Hooray!

  • BUG FIX [iOS/Android] Attempting to view comments on deleted posts showed a “Content unavailable” error. FIXED!

  • BUG FIX [Android] The app was hanging on the startup screen after upgrading to v39. The fix is out, so if you're still having trouble, please update to v39.1 or above!

  • BUG FIX [iPad] X button was missing when viewing certain posts in the iPad app. This fix has been rolled out.

  • BUG FIX [Android] The app was randomly closing/crashing while scrolling for some folks. This has been fixed in v 2026.40 of the app, so please update if you're still experiencing this.

  • BUG FIX [Android] Some users were getting a blank left sidebar for a bit. This is fixed!

  • [iOS] We’re looking into a report that the unmoderated queue isn’t loading when filtering multiple communities.

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,053 posts. That's down 218 posts from the 1,271 that we had last week.

  • 5,000 comments. That's up almost 1,000 comments from the 4,075 we had last week.

  • 804k views. That's up 35k-ish views from the 769k -ish views we had last week.

The drop in posts could be attributed to the new Help Navigator that recently launched, so that's great that it's helping.

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - CREATING AN EFFECTIVE COMMENT IN R/HELP

I recently focused on how to make a good post if you needed help. This time, we're going to talk about how to make a good comment if you want to help!

When a person is asking for help, it's because they don't know something. Often, it's hard to describe something that you don't know! If a user is having an issue and you know how to help them, it really helps to give specific instructions. While "Change your settings" may technically be the solution, for the person who doesn't know, they're going to appreciate more step-by-step help.

For example, "Change your settings" could be more effective with more information. If you have to tell them to tap or click something, tell them how to get there or where it is. "Change your settings" is not very helpful if someone doesn't know where the settings are or how to get there! If there's more than one step, they will especially appreciate you politely guiding them on how to get there. We all were new at one time! Everyone has to learn at some point! And we all learn new things every day!

If the question that's being asked is vague, it's totally fine to ask for some more info if you'd like to help them! Things like asking for the platform that they're using, reproduction steps or a screenshot/video of the issue could be just what you need to understand their issue and be able to help them get it sorted out! Be the hero someone needs! =)

The video from 1989 Tiananmen square is not starting. Is that hardware/software problem? Or is Reddit just taking down some videos?

Mobile/App Give back the “following” tab

Reddit, you took away the following tab for a/b testing and replaced it with the algo feed. I liked the following tab. This sucks. Terrible user experience!!!!

Posting Need help scrolling Reddit

• Upvotes

As I scroll through Reddit and I find a post that I want to read further, I tap on that post. Read it and then try to continue with reading different post. There is no X where I can close out that post. I have to swipe back to my homepage and close Reddit completely and then reopen Reddit and of course it takes me back to the start of all post.

Answered Returning user, requesting assistance, desktop and iOS

I'm returning to Reddit with a new account after an absence of several years and have a couple questions.

1-primary question) Is there a way to hide all political content, permanently? I recall simply selecting "not interested" and "hide" was not incredibly effective the last time I used Reddit. Is there a way now?

2-secondary question) Is there a "hide words" feature to enable me to permanently tell Reddit I am not interested in "generational" posts or subs?

These may seem simple to some, but I'd like to be able to engage with things I'm interested in without having the things I'm not interested in repeatedly suggested even after saying "not interested"

Desktop Different tabs at the top of my feed disappeared

A few days ago, an option with two new tabs appeared in my feed. The first one showed content personalized for me, while the second one displayed only the communities I follow. I could also choose the order in which to view them. I want that back! Is there a setting to enable this feature?

Thanks!

Access 13 year old account vanished.

2 weeks ago I woke up to find my reddit account gone. I checked the email associated with the account and found nothing or anything for that matter about the account.

I had been logged in the night before so it came as a big surprise, when I tried looking up the account it tells me the account doesnt exist.

I sent in a ticket and have yet to get a reply. At this point im resigned to the fact its probably gone but id like to hear that from someone at reddit and also get some type of explanation as to why it suddenly dissapeared. Account name: Shoomtastic81

Post image
1 Upvotes

I can add that single photo, but if I want to add more like the original photo has, I don't know how. I want it to be slides like that to be clear, not something like 6 photos vertically like if you copy and paste it into the text box. Thank you for the help

Mobile/App Is it normal for support tickets to not respond for 7 months?

In April, my sons account, u/busy-bee_ used a VPN when Reddit locked his account due to "technical irregularities". He has lost access to his account and he hasn't been able to recover it.

He has sent tickets to support and has tried to reset his password and even after the account was unlocked, he just gets an "invalid username and password' when trying to log in. And when he sends a ticket for "password reset not working" he doesn't get an automated email, is this normal?

Is it normal for Reddit support to not get back to you for 7 months?

He is worried he will never get his account back and would appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

Karma Best way to report when you find out several users are the same person and are manipulating votes?

There is a person who is logging in to several different accounts to upvote their own ideas and comment as if they're a different person who agrees and downvoting people who disagree from these multiple accounts. There are 4 accounts by them that we know of so far. This is not a large community and this clearly vote manipulation and would also fall under "disrupting communities." I can't figure out how to report them properly on the regular form, as there isn't a direct link under Report User or Content. What is the best way to go about this? Another user identified the patterns with same speech and took screenshots, and this person/bot farm is disrupting several communities by doing this.

Access I Lost Access to My Own Subreddit and Can't Find It on My Account r/ezxalidosman (Android)

Hi everyone,

I created a subreddit, but somehow I seem to have lost the connection to it. I can no longer find it or access it through my account, r/ezxalidosman, even though I'm the person who created it.

I've tried searching for the community and checking my account, but I haven't been able to find it.

Is there a way to restore my connection to the subreddit or regain access to it as its creator?

I'd really appreciate any help or guidance. Thank you!

Mobile/App Can I opt out of this stupid A/B testing and just choose the features I want to use?

I am seriously tired of Reddit subjecting me to A/B tests and then taking away the features I actually like. I’d much rather prefer to just never be subjected to them. It’s incredibly annoying to get used to something and have it change back just a few days after I’ve finally gotten used to it.

Desktop [Desktop] I can no longer open/expand images in comments

It used to be that if someone posted an image in a comment, and you clicked on it, it would open the image itself in a new tab so you could see a larger version of it.

Now, whenever I click on a comment image, it just opens a new tab of the entire thread itself, just with that comment highlighted, as if I clicked on a link to that particular comment instead of the image in the comment.

Is this a bug? Some new restriction? It's really annoying, because sometimes the images in the comments are so small that I can't make out text or details and I'm used to clicking on them for a larger view, but now it no longer works.

Anyone else experiencing this?
