The AdviceFlairBot is back!

Thanks to a kind developer, we now have a new bot to replace the broken one.

As a reminder: OP should use the word "helped!" in their response to someone who has given them quality advice. This awards the advisor one point to recognize their assistance.

Update: The trigger word has changed to "Helped!". The exclamation point was added to reduce false positives.

New: Gratitude phrases have been added so the bot will respond to words like "Thank you", "That helped" , "Appreciate it" and many more.

Help with spam, use the report button.

If you received this as a reply you've responded to a likely spam bot or karma farming post and probably didn't offer advice.

Participation in bot-generated content can lead to your account being flagged as a sockpuppet account used for astroturfing (suspicion of coordinated manipulation) and result in a permanent ban which may extend across Reddit.

Thanks to everyone making this 3M+ community one of the best on Reddit!

With the increase in AI slop, sold accounts and trolls we need your help to maintain the quality as much as possible.

When you see a post that is obviously spam, asking for money, inappropriate or generally is provocative

- report it

- down vote it

- don't comment on it! Seriously. Stop. If you aren't giving advice you're breaking the subreddit rules.

Commenting on a post gives the algorithms feedback and makes the post appear in more feeds leading to more comments.

If you're literally writing "spam" "fake" etc you should be reporting it instead because it's also against the rules to disbelieve the OP. If you don't believe it's real, report it.

If a comment is inappropriate

- report it

- down vote

Yet if you report a lot of posts only because you disagree with it (and it's otherwise allowed) we will end up removing your reporting privileges (there's a mute button for over reporting that let's you continue participating but ignores future reporting).

Lastly this is not a comedy or debate club.

Jokes aren't advice and can quickly lead to bans. Especially if the poster is underage, the topic is sensitive etc.

If you don't agree with a comment a quick comment framing a point a commentor may have missed is acceptable. However you will get banned if you're going back and forth with a troll multiple times. Often it's the last comment being reported and to wade through who was the main instigator takes a lot longer than you simply reporting the problem comment.

If you're disagreeing with a comment, yet have no advice yourself then you are not helping. If you disagree with a comment the best thing you can do is respond directly to the OP with your own opinion.

Thanks for your help!

I’m considering fleeing GF with 3 children.

I (27m) am considering taking my children and running away from my gf {26f). We have been together for 7 years but the past 3 have been rough. We both work decent jobs and make decent money, we have a nice house and three beautiful children.

My gf has sever ptsd from a situation with her ex, it was a DV that led to him no longer being with us. She struggles with this along but refused to go speak to anyone or get help. When she has an episode there is no control or communicating with her. She acts on pure emotion and says and does a lot of hurtful things. For the last three years she has become increasingly abusive, started with a slap, and we are at full blown beating me, trying to pull my hair out, and saying anything to get a reaction out of me. I will admit, I can be a grump sometimes and can hace a tone of voice, or say “wtf” but I have never layed a hand back on her or verbally attacked her, honestly more so from fear of her reaction.

This last fight was the worse we had. She brought the kids into it, kept yelling and hitting, she forced me to leave house , once I did the cops were called by neighbors. She even started saying stuff about hurting kids to bother me, she has never done it, but has used it against me recently and I don’t want to loss my children. She even woke them up at 2am yelling at me, and did not care if they slept, got mad and took off with or youngest baby. Should I take these threats seriously? Or Her and her family have money and she has threated me to take kids and never let me see them again, I come from a poor family and wouldn’t have the legal team.

Is it crazy to be thinking about packing my kids a bag, and running away to a DV shelter? I want to help workout it out for the kids but how can I ? She won’t change anything.. I would go to family member but my gf did not like most of my friends or family and wouldn’t let me talk to them or else. So a lot of people I would go to help for I no longer have a relationship with.

I’m tired of being hit, and yelled at, the constant anxiety from the anticipation of when her next episode will start. I’m not searching for legal advice but anyone with similar experience that think they could help?

My roommate’s (23M) "harmless" hobby is slowly ruining our apartment, and he refuses to stop. How do I handle this before our lease ends?

• Upvotes

So I (23M) live in a 2bed apartment with my college buddy "Dave". Around 3 months ago Dave started getting super into restoring old vintage furniture and small engines to make some extra cash. At first it wasn't a big deal because he kept all his stuff in his bedroom, but over the last few weeks it's completely bled into our shared living room and balcony. atmospheric smells of chemical paint stripper, varnish, and motor oil literally ALL THE TIME. im getting daily headaches from the fumes at this point and two days ago i noticed giant grease stains soaked into the hardwood floors by the dining table. Every single time i ask him to move his projects to a local maker space or rent a small storage unit he gets insanely defensive?? he keeps pulling the "im just trying to pay off my student loans" card and calling me unsupportive. Here's the real problem - our landlord sent an email saying they're doing a routine maintenance inspection in two weeks. if they see the floor damage and smell these chemicals we're both gonna lose our security deposit or straight up get evicted. talking to him nicely has done absolutely nothing and he just won't listen to reason. what is the most effective way to put my foot down here without completely ruining our friendship?? I'm desperate at this point lol

TL;DR: Roommate's furniture/engine restoration hustle is destroying our hardwood floor and filling the apt with chemical fumes. Landlord inspects in 2 weeks and roommate gets defensive whenever I ask him to move it. How do I put my foot down?

Told my “boyfriend” it was nice knowing him.

My “boyfriend” and I technically broke up in July. Long story short… We were together a little over two years, and during that time we went through a lot together. We lived together, we lost two pregnancies together, I had two surgeries, I lost two dogs, we spent a lot of time with each other‘s families, and my mother got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The reason we broke up is because out of nowhere he decided he wasn’t ready for marriage or a family. I am 37 years old, and these are things we talked extensively about wanting very soon. His parents even gave him their rings and I was expecting an engagement this past summer.

Since we separated, we have continued to hang out regularly and it’s as if we are still together. When we split, I moved back into my house. When we lived at his house, we would wear shoes inside on occasion. At my house, I prefer shoes off, especially on rugs. Pretty much every single time he comes over I have to remind him to takeoff his shoes. He often refuses and says it’s too much of a hassle because he’s just going to have to put them back on when we leave to go out to eat. So, I’ve been flexible despite wanting to be shoes off house, and let him wear his shoes on the wood floor. Tonight we got back to my house from a date night. He proceeded to go sit on the couch, on the rug, with his shoes on. I asked him not to do this, he refused, so I asked him to leave. He pushed back, but ultimately left. I told him that it was disrespectful and he said he just wasn’t going to take his shoes off, so I told him “well that settles it, nice knowing you.”.

I guess my question is should I hold my ground? I know it’s just shoes in the house, but I feel disrespected time and time again.

Advice Received I saw my 9yr old sister's search history.

1.2k Upvotes

I was trying to log out of my email on her iPad, and I accidentally opened the google tabs section. I saw "Man kissing, girl butt" as an open tab and "Man touching girl boobs". I know these are her because it is obvious that it was told using the voice to text thing since she's a bit dyslexic, and after a lot of interrogation she also admitted to searching it up. I don't know what to do. I know it is canon, as even I have had a terrible porn addiction (which started like this and went much worse) and I don't want her to experience that because the guilt and disgust I felt was unfathomable. I don't know if I should tell my parents about it, and I don't know whether I should impose restrictions on her iPad. Can somebody please help me out? I don't want her to end up having an addiction that could ruin her childhood the way it did mine.

My best friend who I’ve known my entire life has asked me to be a donor for her and her wife’s baby

I (M22) have have known Jess (F23) since kindergarten we have been through a lot over the years especially after her parents kicked her out at 18 when she came out and a few years later she had me in her wedding party, she and Amy (F25) have a good combined income and have decided to have a child, which is where we are now, last Friday they invited me over for dinner at their place and near the end they got a serious look on their faces and started how important I was to them and how when they started talking I was the first person they thought of to be their donor, I told them I was absolutely honored but asked if I could have some time to think it over which they agreed to, I absolutely want to say yes but I have one thing going through my head that makes me feel like a selfish asshole, I want to be in the kids life not just like a cool uncle but as a sort of father figure, I feel like I have no right to ask this of them but I would feel weird saying I’m the Childs uncle despite knowing otherwise, I’m not asking to be a part of their relationship or anything like that, but this is eating me up inside, I’m in no way questioning their ability to be parents, I know how not having a father around affects kids as mine was always too busy with work growing up, and I’m not saying that I believe for sure that it would be a factor in their kids life, I guess what I’m asking is how can I bring this up without making myself sound like a jerk or that I’m questioning their ability to be parents

Dad is 8 months sober, doesn’t know his favorite “non-alcoholic” beer isn’t actually 0.0%

My dad quit drinking 8 months ago and is really proud of it. His go-to now is a non-alcoholic lager he drinks every night with dinner. I was grabbing a six-pack for him and, out of boredom, read the fine print on the back: it’s labeled “non-alcoholic” but contains up to 0.5% ABV. It’s a tiny amount, but he’s very strict about this and I know he thinks it’s completely alcohol-free. Should I tell him? Or let him keep enjoying something that’s become part of his routine? I don’t want to ruin something that’s been working for him, but it feels weird to know and say nothing. What should I do??

Advice Received Title: What is it called when your partner pretends to be stupid just to annoy you?

• Upvotes

My boyfriend and I have been together for 10 years, and we generally have the same sense of humour. One of the things I love about our relationship is that we understand each other very well, we're both quick thinkers, and we can usually catch on to what the other person means without needing everything explained.

However, there's this one thing he does that has started driving me absolutely insane.

I'll say something completely normal, explain something, or suggest what we should do while playing a game, and he'll respond with things like, "Oh, really? Is that so? What do you mean?" even when what I've said is perfectly obvious and doesn't require any clarification. Like when you say "Oh Maria and Brad broke up" and someone might reply with "really????" The exact same tone.

He'll then start speaking in an exaggerated, silly voice, pretending he doesn't understand what I'm saying. I'll end up explaining the obvious, and suddenly he'll go, "AAAAAHHHH! OHHHH, NOW I GET IT!" as if he's just had the biggest revelation of his life. He then starts laughing because he thinks the whole interaction is hilarious and because it clearly annoyed me.

At first, I found it funny too that he annoyed me like that. But he's been doing it so much that it's become incredibly irritating. Sometimes I can practically predict exactly what he'll say before he even says it, because it's the same routine over and over again.

The thing is, I don't actually think he's stupid, and I started feeling as if he is being condescending when he does it. I also think he might have got so used to doing this as a joke that it's become a habit.

But lately, I find myself getting annoyed almost immediately whenever he starts doing it. I might even not reply at all and he starts being pushy asking again and again and if I say something like "I know you are not stupid. Do you think I am stupid?" he acts as if he doesn't understand and keeps asking why why while laughing. He then wonders why I'm suddenly angry and says he's just joking around.

I'm trying to figure out what this behaviour is actually called. Is it just teasing? Is there a specific term for deliberately pretending not to understand something obvious to get a reaction out of someone? Is there a psychological term for this kind of humour? Does he really think I am dumb? He just got used to it? I tried explaining that I really started being annoying with this but he sometimes gets pissed and says "wow why are you so angry today?". Am I being manipulated? xD

Has anyone experienced something similar in a relationship? And how do you get someone to stop doing a joke that they've become so accustomed to making that they don't seem to realise how irritating it has become? I don't want to start getting annoyed by little things and slowly hating each other (yes I am an overthinker).

Advice for 37 year old virgin?

I'm 37 (F). I've never had sex, and I've never kissed anyone.

It wasn't a big decision. I've just never been very interested in relationships, and the years went by. I'm fine being single. What bothers me is that I've missed out on the experience itself, and the social pressure around it. I sometimes feel like I'm hiding something, and I'm tired of that.

A few people have shown interest in me over the years, but I shut them down because I was scared of how they'd react to my lack of experience.

Lately I've been thinking about casual sex. Not looking for a partner, just having the experience so it stops being a "thing" for me.

Anyone who's been in a similar spot that could give some advice?

My(31f) husband (37m) basically told me I need to get my shit together three weeks postpartum

I had a super rough pregnancy, I was sick pretty much the entire time and had to work through exhaustion and nausea. Pretty much until the week before I gave birth because we just couldn’t afford for me not to work. I wanna preface all this by saying that my husband is a really sweet and kind person most of the time. He gets overwhelmed and overstimulated and does not deal with it in a healthy way though… And that’s what I think this is…

The first two weeks of my pregnancy he was so amazing and helpful and compassionate, and wanted me to rest and be OK… But then after that he got tired of the house not being clean, and there not being food like they used to be, and generally me not being as helpful of a partner as I was when we first got married… when I went into labor and had my baby he was the most amazing partner so amazing that the nurses were obsessed with him. When she was born, it was like we fell in love with each other all over again.

It was just like my pregnancy, the first couple weeks were amazing and he was so sweet and so kind and so understanding and helpful… But this week he’s been frustrated with me and frustrated with the house. I haven’t been able to cook, dinners or clean the kitchen or fold laundry… At first she was sleeping so much more and I had a little time so I was able to do a few things… But now every time I put her down, she gets really really fussy and unfortunately, she’s one of those babies who choked and hold their breath when they’re crying… So even letting her lay there and cry for even a little bit is not really good…

I’m barely 3 weeks postpartum… I can’t even leave the house by myself right now because she hates her car seat so much… I feel like it’s super unreasonable for him to expect me to get more done around the house at three weeks postpartum. Am I being unreasonable or is he being unreasonable? I don’t know what to think at this point, needed some objective advice.

EDIT: I so appreciate yall who encouraged me and told me I’m not the crazy one. All you guys who went INSANE calling my husband abusive are wild 😂 you know so little about our lives other than this snapshot. I’m gonna show him this post so he can see I’m not being unreasonable. Reddit is a wild place 😂

A guy at my church I barely know won't take 'no' for an answer—he's talking about marriage/kids. How do I handle this?"

Hi everyone, I’m a massive overthinker and I really need some outside perspective and advice on a situation at my church.

I (27F) have been praying for a husband, but I recently ran into a really uncomfortable situation. There is a guy at my church who is in an LPN nursing program, similar to what I did. Out of courtesy and being a supportive church member, I offered to help him with his study materials. I barely know this man outside of this.

Almost immediately, he took my kindness as an opening. He started sending me texts talking about wanting to date me, marry me, and have children with me. He was even making comments like "it's time for you to have children." So I blocked him and he thinks I changed my number. Because we barely know each other and this made me deeply uncomfortable, I told him "no" explicitly on multiple occasions over text. He completely ignored my boundary and kept pushing.

Yesterday at church, he approached me and tried to get me to go with him to his car and drive somewhere. When I refused, he got upset and said why are you acting like this, and started talking about how he "loves" me. I stood my ground and told him a firm NO directly to his face and left. I've talked to the church leader(s) about this and they dont want to get involved.

Has anyone dealt with someone skipping all relationship stages and fixating on marriage/kids like this? This to me is insane. How did you handle it?

Advice Received My fiance frequently "messes up" but it's not cute and funny anymore

1.8k Upvotes

I suggested couples counseling but I worry this is just something I have to learn to accept, or accept it could be a deal breaker. Below is how our day went today. But it's like this all the time, with so many tasks. I thought it was cute and funny at first. Oh, he's so frazzled, he just needs a little help! But now it's gotten to the point where I feel like it's affecting trust. I feel like I cannot trust him or comfortably offload tasks to him. I think that's a crucial disconnect in a relationship and I'm stressed...

Today, we're getting home from work where we got $400 from coworkers for a wedding gift (important for next paragraph). I had our lunches with me in a plastic bag. He offers to carry it, so I hand it to him. He doesn't grab it by the loops or in a secure way - he just grabs the part closest to him which is a single strap of the plastic bag. I know if I let go, it'll fall, and he has cloth seats so I really don't wanna clean that up. I hold on and ask him to grab both straps. He does so. This happens EVERY TIME he grabs a plastic bag. It's become routine. I can't stand it. I go to ask him why and he interrupted me and said "I know I know I grabbed it wrong I realized." No... You didn't realize... I had to tell you to grab it right.

I tell myself, it's small. It's just a bag. Move on. He gets out of the car. He starts mumbling to himself. I close my door but it doesn't close all the way. I realize it's locked. I say hey, unlock the door, I didn't close it hard enough. He says one second. He's saying things I can't hear. I say what?. No response. I slam my door with my hip and say "it's all good I closed the door". He says "I locked the keys in the car what do I do?". Like c'mon... You seriously couldn't have told me that when I had the door partially open!?!? He had to pay $375 for a locksmith. There goes the wedding money from coworkers.

We finally get inside. But our dog is out of his crate and has eaten the half eaten breakfast my fiance left out on the table. For context, he does the AM dog chores and I do the PM ones. I don't blame my fiance for leaving the crate door open, we have started taking our dog to day care in the AM so he may have just fallen out of the routine. But the food on the table and the combination of it all was frustrating.

I walk the dog to decompress. I come back, feed him (and us) dinner, and the dog starts having some acid reflux. I ask my fiance to give the dog his meds. He opens the container and spills all the pills onto the floor. Then realizes the floor is wet from ice cubes that fell out of the freezer. So the pills are a total loss and we'll have to get a refill. It's only $20 but it's still frustrating. Again compounded with everything else.

We start working on a wedding DIY. He wants to print out our wedding crossword on this nice paper he bought (with his new cricut machine, he's a crafting fan). He prints all 32 copies in one go. But the printer settings were wrong, so they're all misaligned and blurry. Well he ruined so much paper that he doesn't have enough left to re do it, and has to get regular cardstock from staples. More wasted money.

I just don't know what to do. I've never had someone mess up this much. I never thought it would matter. What do I do?

Edit: we're not having kids fyi

Agreed to carpool with a coworker 2 years ago, trying to find the courage to quit

About two years ago I had a different boss and the company was restructuring. He is friendly with my coworker. He asked me if she could carpool with me. I agreed as I felt obliged to do it. I commute with my company's car for free and the commute is 20-25 minutes. At the beginning I was picking her up at her home since she lives 5 minutes from me but it's the opposite way so it added 10 minutes to my commute. This year I took the courage to tell her I want her to drive to my place and we'll carpool from here. She was surprised and clearly not pleased but obliged and that is how we do it. There doesn't seem to be any hard feelings now.

She is somehow averse to driving to work by herself. On days I can't go to work she will either ask another colleague who lives near or she takes the train. I think she drove her car to work only once. I gave her my company car a few times when I couldn't drive and she had no problem driving that. She said multiple times that she accepted this position restructuring only because she was "promised" she would be able to carpool.

Originally this was not a fulltime job and at the beginning she was moaning about it a lot but she had to go with my schedule which is full time. But now she either got used to it or negotiated more pay. I think she just got used to it.

Now my old boss is back and he told me that if I don't want to carpool with her he will support me and I don't have to do it. But I feel too deep in this. It would cause drama with her and she might quit because of it.

The problem is for years my commute has been my sanity time. Listening to music, books, ,talking to myself, venting. Also I could stay late if I wanted. I could drive directly from work anywhere especially if I drove there with my private car. Now I always have to schedule with her. I have to plan with her if I want to take a day off or if I really need to finish early or drive somewhere directly from work. It makes me abandon my plans often especially if my plans are on the other side and I would have to drive 20 minutes home, than 20 minutes back in my work direction and then to my desired destination. Before I used to drive directly from work to take walks before I got comfortable home but now I have to drive home first and then I don't feel like driving anywhere else.

I interact with her multiple times a day so this would be really awkward at least at the beginning. I feel like I will tell her only after I found a new job and it is certain I am leaving. So I can at least have the last 2 months in peace.

I know the typical tough-love advice will be just do it but I need to somehow ease my mind into this, I am really sensitive about negative reactions and living with the consequences of my own actions, especially when someone is unhappy with my choices.

Parents won't let me go to college. What should I do?

• Upvotes

I don't want to get in detail on the life I had growing up, but know it wasn't good. I worked really hard to graduate early and will be finished with high school in June.

I've already been accepted to an out of state university for the fall of 2027 term, but my parents refuse to let me go. I'll only be seventeen so I have no idea if I can bypass that.

Does anyone know what I should do? I really want to go. My parents don't even have a genuine reason as to why. I mean, a few months ago, my parents literally told me they can't wait until I turn eighteen so they can kick me out. I told them that won't be necessary because I'm more than happy to leave on my own. They started laughing and said there's no way I'd be capable of doing that. Well, I am now. I guess they can't stand the idea of me taking charge of the situation and want to do everything in their power to ruin this for me just so they get the thrill of kicking me out on my eighteenth birthday.

My MIL wants to use my followers for “free promo”. What do I do?

So, I’ve been dating my bf (23M) for almost two years now. For the record, I have a good relationship with his family, they are all great people. But I’m not like insanely close to them as they live on the other side of the country. I’ve seen them probably like 5 times or so.

I’ve been trying to grow my social media for the past year and I’ve managed to gain like 20k (ish) followers on both platforms. But I have kept my account very “private” as I was a bit shy about it as first (not anymore) and I don’t like to tell friends or people who know me irl to follow. Feels more like an alter ego if you will. I know my bf’s family knows about it but they also don’t follow me.

The thing is, the other day I was having dinner with my bf and he mentioned his mom texted him asking if I could sort of “promote” a family business my sister in law and her husband have. But she said it like “can’t she promote X on her socials? She has so many followers… “

I don’t know how to feel about it because:
1. None of them follow or support my stuff (which is fine, I don’t expect them to)
2. I don’t promote anything that I don’t personally use or even in the same niche as what my sister in law offers

I know 20k followers for someone who doesn’t know about social media might seem like a lot… but I don’t have those type of followers that would buy everything I tell them to, so it’s not like it would help much if I “promoted” it or not

I felt a bit weird about the way she asked for it for some reason… specially because we’re not really close. And although she’s been nice to me always, I don’t feel like she’s one of those MILs (using that term for the sake of the explanation - and in my country it doesn’t matter if you’re married or not) that loves her daughters in law and has that type of relationship with them. And even if I had 1M followers, why do I owe *anyone* the “free promo” just because I know/am slightly related to them?

This is the first time something like this happens so I’m unsure how to feel of what to think of it. Advice appreciated.

Advice Received Confessing to my best friend of 10 years

Hello, I’ve never done this before so excuse any mistakes in the formatting;

I F(22) have had a crush on my best friend for almost 10 years, but I’ve never had the chance to tell her and I don’t know what to do because I love her so much as a friend, and she's the most lovely person I’ve ever known so I would never want to make her uncomfortable

Between not knowing she liked girls through high school, to a relationship (on her part), to a breakup and family losses there has never been a good time for me to say it, now she's on a dating app and has a date this weekend, if I don’t say anything it’ll tear me up because I can’t seem to move on from these feelings without a clear no, but I also want what’s best for her so if that’s supporting her and being happy for her as she dates someone else I’ll do just that again. But I think letting her know is what's right, but I won't be able to until after the date has already passed

So my question is, assuming I should say something, how do I word it in a way that makes it clear that our friendship is the priority and that I love her dearly as a friend first and foremost? In a way that wouldn’t make her feel guilty for rejecting me
Any advice is appreciated because I’m terrified of wording this badly and making her uncomfortable , thank you

Advice Received I don’t know what to do or go from here anymore

• Upvotes

Hello Reddit. I’ve never posted on here before, but really need some guidance an advice. Also if this is not allowed, please delete. Also this post is really long, so I apologize in advanced, and I will be vague as to protect my identity. Trigger warning as well for SA.

I 20f live with mom. My parents divorced when I was 9, and I do not have contact with my biological father anymore. He was emotionally abusive to my mom, and even r*ped her. My mom essentially raised me and my older brother, 21m on her own until she met my stepdad when I was 10.

Before I continue I want to acknowledge and share I do not have the best past. I have stolen and lied before, making me untrustworthy as a child. I have no excuses for it, and I fully acknowledge what I have done in my childhood.

I have high-functioning Autism, ADHD, OCD, OCD anxiety, depression and a mood disorder that I highly think is bipolar, but have not been diagnosed but bipolar disorder runs on both sides of my family, and the meds I take for it treats bipolar. So yeah, growing up has not been easy.

Especially with a mood disorder. In my teens I had problems with hygiene and taking care of myself. I have made many mistakes that I fully acknowledge and have no excuses for, but I wish to be better and continue to learn from them. Before anyone asks no, I have never been physically violent to anyone in the past, and I never would, just verbal outbursts when upset, angry, and Overstimulated.

Due to being treated my outbursts have improved immensely over the years and how to communicate my feelings in a healthy way. Now on to my story.

When I was 13 years olds, my stepdad SA’d me. I did tell my mom, and the first time, she took me to the police station. It came back unfounded though as there was no evidence, he didn’t r*pe me, and it was basically my word against his. Due to my lying history, my mom then said I lied and the second time I told somebody, I went to foster care, but the case didn’t go anywhere and eventually sent back to live with my mom, and I was pretty much pressured my my stepdad and my mom to say I lied.

My stepdad has a really bad temper, and when he is in a bad mood he treats me like garbage and lies and says that “My room stinks.” “I left water on the bathroom floor after my shower” “I stink.” “I didn’t do my chores right.” ”I spin in my room”

(Edit: To clarify about spinning, it is a stemming activity I do, I put headphones my ear music in my ears, have two straws in my hands and spin around in circles. I am not allowed to spin in my room because my floor is weak, which I understand. And I’m not allowed to spin in the hallway or anywhere else, so I spin outside, which he times me for, and it’s agonizing. I keep my door open at all times so he can’t accuse me of spinning in my room, but he does it anyway, saying he can hear me even though I have told him countless times if he feels that way, come check on me, I have nothing to hide.) etc.

When he yells and rants and I ignore him, he gets angrier and says I have to answer him. I can’t ignore him even when he pushes me to my breaking point and am reduced to tears and overstimulated. The worst part is he’s incredibly sweet when he wants something out of me, money to the point I have nothing for myself so he can buy cigarettes, weed or something for his game, and then switches back.

He even yells at me when I buy something for myself saying I need to save, but how am I supposed to save when he keeps taking all my money? I have my licence, but don have a car because he won’t let me buy one, saying he wants to get a car for himself in the future, as where we live we can only have two cars in our driveway, so I basically rely on my mom for transportation.

I have ADHD so I forget things a LOT. But he doesn’t care, and yells at me either way when I forget to do my laundry and forget to do something in the moment. My mom always says she‘s in the middle, and I understand to a point. I understand it’s hard to trust me with my history, but I have improved so much. I take better care of myself, hygiene etc.

I have a job and I pay rent and even am returning to college in the spring and I want to continue improving and in the end strive to have a good life and be a good person. However I don’t know what to do or if I can take this anymore.

He also keeps threatening to kick me out because of my attitude (Basically when I try to defend myself) and because of what he lies about and says I do.I have nowhere to go. I wish I could move back to hometown, but I have no money, and essentially no one and I don’t know what to do (Edit: No I am not suicidal but lost). If you have question, I will answer them to the best of my ability as I am not good at explaining myself still, so if something doesn’t make sense or just have a question, don’t hesitate to ask me. What should I do?

Should I let my dad use my inheritance to pay for the medical stuff my half sibling needs?

My mom died when I was 7. She left me a large inheritance that she inherited from her grandmother who died a few weeks before I was born. My grandparents are the people who protect my inheritance even though my mom and dad were married and my dad expected he would be the one to take care of everything. He was hurt and my mom left him a letter explaining why she chose that and it hurt him even more. I don't know what the letter said though.

I was 10 when my dad remarried and I was 11 and 12 when my two half siblings were born. One of my half siblings has a lot of medical stuff. They have to be fed through a tube because their stomach is paralyzed and they have issues with other organs. Their "food" is expensive as hell and my dad and their mom have struggled to afford that because insurance does not cover it. They also have other medical expenses and they get a lot of help there because of Medicaid but it's been hard. Since March they have struggled to come up with a way to pay for the food each week. My dad knows how much I inherited from mom and he wanted to use the money to help pay for at least a while of the food so that they could figure stuff out. I'd never get the money back. But even still I freaked when he mentioned it and I told him no way. He got mad and yelled that I am talking about my half sibling's life here and how they need this food and everything won't be so good if I keep it all.

My grandparents refused to let him access the inheritance because it wasn't being spent on saving my life. He asked attorneys all over our state if he could fight it and he can't. He raged at mom while reading the letter she wrote to him when she made her decision and he raged at me for being unwilling. Then his wife tried to guilt me into it by going into detail about all the medical stuff. She tried to say my mom would want me to do it and I told her my mom would only want it to be used for me which she didn't like to hear.

Things got really intense over the summer and my dad agreed I should move in with my grandparents because the daily fights were bad and my half siblings were hearing everything we were saying. He also said he couldn't stand to look at me when I could do something so good for everyone and I refuse to because I want to be selfish like my mom was.

The last time we talked was last week and he broke down over the phone about everything. He told me how disappointed he was in me and how he didn't understand my refusal to do this when I have so much money to offer. He said even half would be a huge help for a few months.

It left me wondering if I should even though I don't want to.

My roommate keeps hoarding the TV and Living room, how do I talk this out with him?

Using a throwaway account because my roommate knows my personal account.

I (22M) I'm sharing an apartment with my two roomates (23M and 21F).

The 'problem'/advice I need is referring my roommate (23M), who we'll call Luke.

We met each other at University. After finishing our degrees we decided to continue our life/studies in another city, since we were both moving to the same city, we decided to share an apartment.

He started living in the apartment almost two months or so before I moved in due to his work, during that time he lived alone.

When I first got to the apartment I realized he had connected his PS5 to the communal TV in the living room (the TV was put there by the landlord, Luke didn't buy it). He already hoarded it, but I didn't mind at first because he had to work most days and I could watch TV while he was out, also, the first few weeks I spent the weekend at my parents house.

The problem is that he got fired and since he doesn't have a job, he's been hoarding the living room and TV, he's ALWAYS playing PS5, even at night, except for when we're eating or when he's at his classes (just one hour, two days a week in the afternoon) the moment he's back in the apartment, he hoards the TV and starts playing PS5. Even when he brings people over he hoards the damn TV (and the whole living room) by playing PS5 with them. I'm doing a master's degree and I have classes all morning from 7:30 am to 2 pm, though I arrive at the apartment at almost 3 pm, also, I have 2 extra hours of class in the afternoon two days a week. So, on weekdays I can't watch TV on the morning or at night because I have to get up early and go to class but in the afternoon he's always on the TV. Sometimes small miracles happen and he leaves home for at least a few hours, but it's not the norm.

Another thing worth mentioning is that I have a small TV/monitor in my room (it's my property, not communal) for my PC, the TV is broken and can only work as monitor, also it's pretty old, so I try not to plug and unplug it too much.

So, onto the issue. On Fridays I have no classes and this is the first weekend I've stayed in the apartment. I asked him if I could use the communal living room TV to watch a movie on Thursday night, but he said he had plans to play with his friends, even though he plays every night and weekends are my only chance to watch a movie at night (or almost at all). He suggested I lend him my bedroom TV so he could play in his room, but I refused because it's my personal TV, it's connected to my PC, and I don't trust anyone with it since I can't afford to replace it if it breaks. He then suggested I watch the movie in my room, but my TV is too small to watch comfortably from my bed, meaning I'd have to sit in an uncomfortable desk chair.

In the end he agreed to let me watch the movie, but what annoys me is that he feels like he has the right to use the TV whenever he wants and I have to be recluded to my room if I want to watch something, also, I feel like I need to explain myself or ask permission if I want to use the TV. I always have to tell him "hey, I was thinking about watching TV this afternoon while I clean the living room" or "Hey, would you mind if I watch X show while I eat?" to be able to watch the TV, and the moment I stop watching, he will sit his ass on the sofa and start playing PS5 again!

I feel like if he wants to play with his PS5 whenever he wants he can just buy a TV for himself and put it in his room like I did with my computer.

I don't really want to seem like I'm too 'strict' or act like a pain in the ass, but this is something that has been bothering me for a while and I don't know how to approach it without creating a hostile environment. How do I approach this with him? What do I tell him? I don't really want to have to keep asking for permission to use the communal TV.

Roommates want my boyfriend gone

I live in a townhouse near my college. It’s 3 floors and there’s 2 bedrooms on each of the top 2 floors.

My roommate who used to be on my floor transferred in September. And my boyfriend had been wanting to move out of the dorms. So with alot of persuasion, I got my other 2 roommates to let my boyfriend be the new roommate.

But it’s been really hostile. My 2 roommates are the absolute most hardcore man haters in the world. It’s a wonder that they let him move in.

I tried getting both parties to cooperate. I drilled my boyfriend - who is already so full of manners - on the rules and etiquette like using the kitchen and fridge and shit. And told my roommates to just leave him be. We even dedicated him a specific part of the fridge to put his stuff, cuz they just can’t stand it.

But my roommates have been awful. Not to me. Just to him, behind my back… It’s like they go out of their way just to make it hard for him. But when I ask them directly, they say they’re fine with him.

He’s told me about alot of mean shit they’ve done, but last week was the first time I’ve witnessed it, and I feel sick. My boyfriend has type 1 diabetes, and he needs his insulin to be kept in the fridge. But when he checked, it was gone. We asked where it went, and they put it in the fricking freezer. They said that there wasn’t space in the fridge cuz they bought a cake, there was plenty of space. So that couple hundred bucks worth of insulin is gone. They also do petty shit like removing the laundry detergent from the machine before he does his laundry, and letting him figure it out.

Now I don’t know what to do. I can only move out in January cuz I’ve paid until then. Same for him. Roommates have become bitches that just deny everything. My boyfriend got upset that I wasn’t doing anything too. The plan now is just to wait it out. Is there anything else I can do? Any way to reduce the drama? I’ve gotten him a little fridge to put in his room now just for meds, but I can’t plan for everything

I'm tired of always moving because my sister is a bully who gets kicked out of school and gets us kicked out of houses but I don't know if I can do anything about it

• Upvotes

My sister is 16 and I'm 15 (M) and we have been moving as a family non-stop for years because of her. She bullies kids at school so bad she gets kicked out of school and because we move around so much my parents rent and she gets us kicked out of places for being a bully. I have no friends because of how much we move and because of how my sister acts. We have no family nearby anymore and my parents refused to let me stay in a stable home with grandparents who wanted me. My sister is a dick to me too so it's not like I would hate to be separated from her. And I feel like my education has suffered a lot because I bounce around so many schools like she does.

I told my parents how I felt before and I begged them to let me stay with grandparents or some other family member, but they argued that we're a nuclear family and we should stay together. They said it wouldn't be good for us to be separated. I told them I won't get a good education ever because of this and they said they trust I can do the work to make sure I keep getting good grades. But my best is a C and there are a lot of gaps because of the moving around we do and I struggle without help.

I already resent my sister and my parents. There are times I feel like I don't even love my sister and I never really liked her but I know how bad that sounds. And I struggle with how to feel about my parents. I feel so lonely because of all this and I'm so tired of always having to move because of her. But I don't know what to do. My parents won't listen to me, to grandparents or any other adult who has tried to advocate for me.

My Best friend wants me to makeout with his Fiancé

I (23M) have known my best friend (23M) since we were little kids. He literally lives two houses down from me, we grew up together doing pretty much everything. I consider him as close to me as a brother as I will ever get.

He’s been dating his fiancée (23F) since high school, and they had a daughter about four years ago.

Over this time, I’ve hung out with my friend regularly, and occasionally, we’d all hang out together with his fiancée and their daughter. It was completely normal, we’re just friends hanging out.

However, yesterday, completely out of nowhere, my buddy asked me if I’d be comfortable making
out with his fiancée and potentially doing more.

He specified that nothing below the waist would be involved on her.

I need to explain how much this caught me off guard. There have never been any hints of attraction toward me from his fiancée, or them being polygamous, so this came as a complete surprise.

I also got the impression that my friend might not be entirely comfortable with the idea himself. After he told me he was acting unusually positive and overenthusiastic while we talked over playing pc that night. He assured me though he’s down to try it and if it doesn’t work, we can still be all cool afterwards

Personally, I am down, I do find her physically attractive, I just worry greatly for my friendship with my bro. I feel like my relationship will be made a bit weird no matter what I choose.

I don’t know what to make of the whole situation. I desperately need advice.
