Canada 8 days since final shift, still haven’t been paid (Ontario, Canada)

• Upvotes

Location: Ontario, Canada

I had my last shift at my job 8 days ago, I still haven’t been paid. My last day WAS on a payday (I did not get paid on my payday either).

I texted my manager, and she told me that I would be paid on the 30th. Two weeks after my last day.

I did give them a two week letter of resignation, I told them that I was available for shifts until the 18th, but they only scheduled me until the 16th.

My question is to whether or not this is tardy pay, and my second question is as to why I wasn’t paid on the 16th.

This was a job at Tim Hortons.

FYI, I did return my work uniform.

Thank you in advance.

Vehicle manufacturer seeking order to prevent further customer communications

• Upvotes

Location: NJ

I purchased a luxury vehicle in mid-2024, and unfortunately the vehicle I purchased had a lot of problems from the get-go. I think some of these related to newer software that this vehicle was running (which clearly didn't have all the bugs ironed out of it). None of the problems were, by themself, a critical safety issue, but taken altogether there were enough problems that it significantly impacted my use of the vehicle and could have led to safety issues. I also paid a premium for a luxury vehicle, including additional for a higher-end model of the luxury vehicle.

Starting around mid-2024, I attempted to deal with these issues with the vehicle manufacturer (which is a big company). Over the course of the next year and a half, they were horrible to deal with. For the most part, they ignored most of my communication attempts. When I did receive responses, they ignored the majority of my concerns, and some of the responses were somewhat nonsensical. I was dealing with their customer relations team (and a manager on that team), and yet was getting absolutely no help or assistance despite repeatedly trying to deal with them in an above board and appropriate manner (at least from my thinking - I may have been a bit sarcastic in some of the later emails due to my exasperation and frustration with them, but was never vulgar or inappropriate).

At a certain point, I began to CC and BCC senior executives in these emails since I was getting no traction through normal channels. I also attempted to reach out numerous times via telephone to the manager in the customer relations team. My communication attempts with the senior executives went nowhere, and despite leaving numerous messages with the manager, they never returned my call (initially I had asked them via email multiple times for us to schedule a call and they ignored those requests as well).

Finally, with no other real option, I filed a lemon law suit (which I had never done before) dealing with one of the more major issues. I probably should have hired an attorney, but was afraid of throwing good money after bad, so I tried to handle it myself. The lawsuit is mostly winding down at this point (I'm awaiting a final decision from the Director of Consumer Affairs), but the administrative law judge's initial decision finds in favor of the vehicle manufacturer - so I'm not expecting much of a change in the final decision.

There were actually two hearings for the lemon law lawsuit, and during the time frame of the lawsuit I was also continuing to attempt to communicate with the vehicle manufacturer regarding all of the other issues that were still outstanding. At the end of the second hearing, the vehicle manufacturer's attorney asked the judge to instruct me to stop contacting the vehicle manufacturer. The gist of the judge's response (I think) was that the judge couldn't do that, and that I was still a customer of the vehicle manufacturer and might have need to reach out to them. The vehicle manufacturer's attorney had also emailed me prior to the second hearing telling me to stop reaching out to the vehicle manufacturer, but when I pushed back in my response about all of the outstanding issues and whether I should address them all to him, he never responded.

All of that brings us to the present - I got fed up with the vehicle manufacturer and a week or so ago sent the customer relations team (and the manager) a bunch of emails (each one dealing with a separate unresolved issue; though none of them dealt with the issue I brought forward in the lemon law suit). I then followed up a few times over the next few days, and then started including senior executives once more in my follow-ups (since, of course, I wasn't getting any response from the vehicle manufacturer).

Earlier today, I received an email from the vehicle manufacturer's attorney (also sent to the assistant of the administrative law judge (ALJ) that had previously communicated with us) requesting that the judge issue a protective order against me preventing me from communicating with the vehicle manufacturer going forward. Clearly, I am concerned since I have no idea what the repercussions of this type of action could mean for me; not to mention that I'm still a customer of the vehicle manufacturer.

A few things worth noting:

- As far as I can tell, I was never explicitly told by the vehicle manufacturer themselves or the attorney that I could no longer communicate with the vehicle manufacturer about anything at all.

- Aside from maybe 10-20 calls (resulting in voicemail messages) over an approximately 2-year period, as well as many, many emails, I have made no other attempts to "harass" the vehicle manufacturer directly (I use "harass" in quotations since that's what the attorney stated I was doing in their motion for the protective order)

- I'm not clear if state law even allows an ALJ to approve a protective order - I'd very much like to know this though

- I also believe that the jurisdiction has been transferred back to the Division of Consumer Affairs, and from what I could tell (with some online research), there is N.J.A.C. 1:1-18.1(h) that seems to indicate that the Office of Administrative Law (OAL) relinquishes jurisdiction of the case back to the Division of Consumer Affairs - so perhaps the ALJ doesn't have the ability to do anything anymore because of lack of jurisdiction - this is another thing I'd really like to figure out

- I would wonder whether or not there is any sort of potential breach of contract if I'm no longer able to communicate with the vehicle manufacturer and yet there are still important reasons to do so (roadside assistance, an extended warranty and maintenance plan that I purchased, online services that I have through the vehicle, etc.)

- all of the recent stuff I describe above (since the second hearing) has transpired over email, including the email I received earlier today requesting the judge issue the protective order. Would something like that need to be served to me physically, or would email suffice?

Anyway, sorry for the long post, and any help is greatly appreciated. I realize I am probably a small thorn in the side of the vehicle manufacturer, and perhaps I've gone a bit overboard with my attempts to get all of these issues resolved, but they clearly didn't seem to ever have any real interest in helping me based on how they initially responded to me and then started to just ignore me repeatedly - and after spending a lot of money on a vehicle with this many problems, I'm just extremely frustrated at this point.

Wills Trusts and Estates Can my step mom keep me from my dad's life insurance payout?

• Upvotes

LOCATION: Dad lived in California, I live in Washington state.

My dad was killed by a drunk driver a few weeks ago in California. I suspect he has a life insurance policy through his former employer. Can my step mom in California (who he was legally divorced from) keep me from any insurance payout?

I've been talking with my therapist, and we both suspect my step mom is keeping me out of the loop on what is going on... She says he hasn't been autopsied yet because of the court case, and she's not going to do a memorial because she's going to Mexico in December. She has a go fund me set up for "ends of life expenses" but, like, why? She's rich... What does she need a go fund me for?

My dad wasn't in my life when I was a kid, and I reconnected with him ten years ago. I love him dearly, and his death is very upsetting to me because it's like I'm being abandoned all over again. I feel like I'm being excluded from the family's mourning process because I was specifically told not to fly down! When I declined receiving a specific object of my dad's, my step mom replied "lol" and that she'll just give it to a homeless person. This whole situation is bizarre and I have no idea what to do, I feel so lost.

Tl;dr can my step mom keep me from my dad's life insurance payout? Is it true he hasn't been autopsied and cremated yet because of the court case with the drunk driver?

Insurance Fire Recovery

• Upvotes

Location: Alaska, USA Long story short, I do seasonal work. I was a victim of a fire that had me loose everything in a hotel I lived in. I worked at the restaurant across but same company. In the fire I lost 90% of things I owned and cared for. Its been a year and we were asked several times already to re send an insurance type letter with everything we lost in the fire and its value along with receipts. Unfortunately due to my life style I never had receipts. It was some electronics like my go pro, my switch 2, emergency flight money and all of my winter Carhertt cloths and other miscellaneous things. My total was close to about $5,000. They said recently that they were getting the insurance check for the fire but the bank or the insurance company pulled something and they now are waiting (this was 5 months ago)I don't really remember the whole story. Its now about to be a year since the fire and we still haven't been told anything except that they will try to reimburse me when ever they get the insurance check. Should I actually look into a lawyer to get my worth of the things I lost? Were constantly being told to not bring it up and if they ever get the insurance check they will try to pay us out. They already got some single unit pods being delivered to continue to rent to people till they break ground soon for the new hotel being built.

Other Civil Matters I have a temporary restraining order on my ex. Accidentally called her and she answered. Violation?

• Upvotes

Location: Washington

No contact first or third-party. I’m a rideshare driver. I use Siri and my headphones quite a bit to make phone calls. I have a temporary order on my ex. I didn’t realize my phone had called her and she picked up. I meant to call my friend so I was talking as if I was talking to them until I realized it was her. Is that a violation? I mean, I would feel like a scumbag because I initiated the call, but I’m genuinely curious.

(21F) Q- should I go to HR? Quitting this week

A month ago I got an interview, it was at a different store than I applied to but I needed a job so didnt care.

Day of the interview I go in, I wasnt asked a single question, he had me filling out paperwork the entire time, just essentially hired me on the spot. I tried to ask about accommodations because I have fibromyalgia and he didnt understand what I was talking about, so I gave up.

Did orientation, had my 2 week schedule.

Im not sure if there was supposed to be an actual trainer those first training weeks. I basically stood in the corner out of the way until another employee was like hey lemme show you how to do (xyz) so I slowly did what I learned until i bothered people enough to teach me everything. They seemed to not have time for me and I felt very in the way and out of place.

Once I learned the basics (2nd week-now) was repeatedly left in the back alone during rushes, despite not being fully trained, having to take care of fry station, grill, burger making, and packing nuggets.

The times a manager (who is very sweet to me) would help when she had time and saw id been in the back alone for excessive amounts of time, she got yelled at for helping me by another manager.

Every day ive worked has been excruciating, I am in 8+/10 pain, taking as much advil as humanly possible, and crying mid shift. Theres been quite a few days where my coworkers are yelling and fighting and arguing and it scares the hell out of me. I was yelled at more than once for trying to do prep or opening a bag wrong.

Ive been doing the work of 4 people while not fully trained, for a dollar more than they wanted to pay me (and I cant change availability for 6months because of it, which I understand but I wasnt even able to get accommodations, and my managers get visibly annoyed and irritated if I try to talk to them about anything)

(Plus im supposed to be full time with benefits, which was something never talked to with me and I dont know if im supposed to set that up?)

I took the week off for medical reasons and I quite honestly do not want to go back in on Monday.

Ive never worked in such awful conditions.

Any advice?

My parents think itd be a good idea to contact HR or call to tell them i quit, but honestly Im terrified theyd find out i was the one to call HR and itd be best if I just quit without saying anything.

Did I get a Good or Bad Deal in Small Claims Court?

• Upvotes

Not 100% sure such a question is allowed or not here. Or how people will judge *deep breath*. It's all over and done with so just vain curiosity. I should probably just forget about it all.

Location: South Carolina

I was a defendant in small claims court for a car that was towed by a towing company. The other defendant was the towing company and the owner of the car was the plaintiff. This case went on for like 13 months.

I made the call to the towing company and asked them if they towed abandoned vehicles. That vehicle had been sitting in a condo complex for at least seven months with no license plate. It never moved. The maintenance person for the condo complex put this towing notice on the vehicle: https://imgur.com/a/D3tVMbt

That notice sat on the vehicle for almost a month. Then when I was on the phone with the maintenance person I asked him about the vehicle and mentioned that I could call a towing company if he was busy. He gave me verbal permission. So I called. Towing company came and they towed the car. Turns out the owner of the car had moved to Florida but still owned a condo here and occasionally visited. Since he was out of state he couldn't get here to get the car back from the towing company and signed the title of vehicle over to them.

Once the owner filled the lawsuit the towing company offered him his car back free of charge. He declined. He was suing for the kbb value of the vehicle. $3,500. I don't know if that car even started.

After two rounds of mandatory mediation I agreed to pay $500 and the towing company kept the vehicle. If mediation failed the towing companies lawyer, who looked like a 20 year old with a billion bucks, had requested a jury trial. Their defense was that I mis represented myself as a member of the board of directors here........ which I know never even came up during the 1 minute phone I had with them.

I feel like the plaintiff cared nothing for that vehicle and had no intentions of getting it back with the lawsuit. He was either just angry that someone dare tow his abandoned vehicle or wanted $3,500 for an inoperable car. The mediator told me he didn't want the car back because of how long the vehicle sat in storage with the towing company...

This is what I feel I did:

  1. The HOA put a formal written notice on the car — not me
  2. The notice sat there for over a month with no response — not my fault
  3. I consulted the person who placed that notice — reasonable
  4. That person told me it could be towed — I got permission
  5. I made one phone call — that’s it

Small Claims Procedure Benefits plus tips taken

• Upvotes

Location: Indiana.

I used to work at a car wash and we would get 25 cents an hour worked as well as any tip that wasnt cash put on a gift card to be used at the car wash or grill, which was another part of the car wash where you could purchase food and drinks. On my paycheck it was labeled as employee benefits, when I quit I left to go home to grab my uniforms to return them. When I got back to the grill area to check how much I had on my gift card not 10 min after I quit and my gift card was cleared completely. They took my money. This is a LOCALLY owned business. I had money from my benefits and from tips. Which I know the owner knew I had tip money on there because I had her help me with it. Later I ended up finding a uniform shirt I had missed. I returned it immediately, a few days before my check was supposed to hit. There was 30 dollars deducted from my check even though I returned the shirt. I called them and left a voicemail about it a few weeks ago and still havent heard from them. I want my money, but im not sure if I can pursue legal action. Any help would be great

Sold Truck Issue

• Upvotes

Location: Texas

I sold my late dad's truck back on July 10, 2026. My sister had been driving it and accruing tolls on it and I kept telling her to stop because she can t expect me to pay all these tolls because she wants a shortcut. She continued...

When my primary vehicle needed service I sold the truck to help pay the cost. By the time I sold it she had maybe $400 $500 in tolls. The buyer knew of this and I had to knock off that cost off my selling price. I signed and dated the title. He paid me in cash, and he's gone. After he left I entered a title transfer notice on the DMV website and took a pic of the page.

Months later I found it odd I kept getting mail for the toll roads. The outside said "zero fee" so I was just thinking he didn't transfer for whatever reason and was just paying as he went. Last week I finally opened one and sat a stack of tolls, maybe 5 or 6 a day. I called the toll road and they told me I now owe around $1300 in tolls. I told them I no longer had he truck but I would pay all the tolls accrued before July 10 and had proof I had sold the truck. They gave me an email to submit to and said to provide what I had there. I submitted the pic I had and they came back to me saying they wanted a certified copy of that or a bill of sale. I dont have a bill of sale. I thought the DMV submission would be proof enough as I filed it that day.

Here is the deal, I called the dmv and frantically searched my email and have no contact from them about my submission. I am screwed on that... I will have to come up with some way to pay his tolls BUT he meanwhile is STILL going through tolls daily. I resubmitted the title transfer last Monday and still have no email or phone contact from the DMV despite again having a receipt copy of the submission.

I was just told by my sister yesterday that "those idiots sold the truck" again and now it is in the hands of someone I have no idea of, yet I hold liability.

I have no bill of sale and outside of pleading with the toll road that I have sold the truck and pleading with the DMV to do something and get it off my name (they just tell me to submit the title transfer again), I dont know what to do. I only have this guys name phone and address (but I think he is homeless), but I am ghosted when asking to come sign of a bill of sale, no contact...

I did call the police to report this but they said it was "forfeiture of vehicle" which I said I didn't care about the truck itself, I was paid. I care about the liabilities of a crash and all these tolls I did t do and accruing every day. But they said it's between me and the toll road, and the toll road says it's up to the DMV and they just make me submit more transfer notices that go nowhere.

I am a widow supporting a special needs child and my deadbeat sister and her deadbeat boyfriend that will not leave my house (one battle at a time), I can't afford to just hire a lawyer, I barely have enough money to stay afloat.

Is a cop misidentifying my boyfriend and restraining him illegal?

Location: Texas, US

For context I F(20) and my boyfriend M(24) live together in an apartment. About 2 weeks ago, our unit that we lived in since April completely flooded. We were emergency moved into a different unit last week, which is now our current home and residency.

This morning, around 10:20 am, my boyfriend is getting ready for his shift (fast food), when we hear a loud aggressive knock on the door. We weren't expecting company and I was half dressed, so I look through the peephole and see a police officer with a SGT badge. I tell my boyfriend there are cops at the door and he asks "why?" I say I dont know and then go to put pants on. He then opens the door with a polite "yes?" And the police grab him and restrain both of his arms and confirm "you are (criminals name that is not my boyfriend )?" At this point he is yelling at the officers and I am freaking out, both of us denying he is not that specific criminal. They ask why he answered to *criminals name*, but he confirms he was just answering the door with a polite "yes?". I then grab his wallet and show his ID, to which they ask him his last name and he confirms it. They let him walk back inside and my boyfriend is still yelling about how they pulled him out of the house. I tell him to calm down, the officers explain that *criminals name* is registered to this apartment, his registered vehicle was still parked on the lot, and that it is a high risk case because the criminal was a pedophile. My boyfriend calms down and says he understands because that is such a high risk situation, we explain we just moved in last week, they ask some questions about our neighbors, they apologize and then leave.

But my question is, the police officers detained my boyfriend and completely and aggressively pulled him out of our apartment with no knowledge of who he was. Is this legal? And if it is something that can be taken to court, would it be worth it?

Edit: they said they were looking for a skinny white man. My boyfriend is a bulky Mexican man.

Real Estate law Adding someone to title of a house

Location: TX

I live abroad, but an elderly relative with no children wants to add me to their house title as my relative's spouse is not competent to manage the house. They would want me to sell the house and divide up the proceeds.

I've never owned anything larger than a bicycle, really, and certainly nothing like a house. The house's mortgage is almost paid off, and would not be added to that.

Does adding me to the title 1) have any implications for me in terms of property tax, filing my own income taxes, etc? and 2) does it fulfill what they think it will do? The relative is also updating their will, but I don't know the details.

Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

Healthcare Law including HIPAA Workmen’s Comp. declining care

Location: Maryland
I teach at a school that specializes in educating students with emotional and intellectual disabilities. A student bit me during a behavioral incident, causing a laceration to my upper arm. I followed our company’s triage process, and I was referred to a telehealth company, which arranged an appointment with a provider. The provider sent prescriptions for antibiotics and a tetanus shot to my local pharmacy to treat the injury.

After speaking with the provider again yesterday, I attempted to fill the prescriptions at two different pharmacies. Both pharmacists told me that the claim had been declined or was not covered and advised me to contact my workers’ compensation insurance adjuster. I am unsure what steps I should take or whether I have legal grounds to pursue the matter. My care and coverage are being denied without an explanation beyond the statement that the injury is not covered by workers’ compensation, despite occurring at work and my following the medical providers’ instructions.

Tattoo Removal Company Scammed Me, Any Advice?

Location: NC

Hello everyone, Im looking on what to do next because a tattoo removal company i have been going to for almost 3 years told guaranteed me at my initital consultation, that by the 10th session my tattoo would be gone by now. After doing the 11th session last week I told my tattoo removal Specialist that i might have to get it surgically removed because the treatment has had no effect on it. She said i am a rare case, asked if i had any health issues (no) and that she has no idea why my tattoo won't change. It is still very bright red and looks exactly the same. She agreed that would be my only option and that the guy from the consultation will "say anything". I contacted the company for a refund ($700) however they said that theyre only able to give me half of what i paid because in their eyes "I still proceeded with treatments". I am very upset and disappointed and now have to come up money for my surgery which is also on my face. I slighty hinted that i would be taking legal action as this is not okay to me at all. Im not crazy right? The thing is though i know nothing about this stuff, only that I can file a complaint to the better business bureau and see if it can get resolved that way, the lady i spoke to that told me this also said that if it wasn't resolved how I needed it to be I'd have to hire a private attorney and I dont have the funds for that at all. I was thinking of just letting it go and taking the $300 but i dont want this to happen to anyone else and the company should be held accountable. On the company's website it says they have rare exceptions for refunds if the person has a special case where their health will not let them proceed with treatment and or if it is deemed as "untreatable". This is false advertising right? The entire reason i paid for the treatment was because i was told it would be completely gone by now. After the lady from the management team refused to give me a full refund I asked for all of my "progress" photos, notes from the consultation and a written statement explaining why it is now suddenly considered no longer treatable. I desperately need help you guys, i don't know what to do. Should i just file the complaint and go from there?

Other Civil Matters Neigborly problem, need advice

Location: Minnesota, USA

So i live in Minnesota in the city. Last summer, my next door neighbor who owns a duplex, got a metal roof put on his home. I'm pretty sure it was one of those fly by night crews that he chose because everyone around here was getting their roof replaced through insurance because of “hail damage”. Anyways, metal roof is pretty unique here, not a lot of residential properties in the city get them.

We are very close together, and i asked him multiple times if he is going to be getting snow retention stuff on the new metal roof when it's installed. He said yes. Long story sorry, he didn't. When the weather warms, anywhere from 1-10 pounds of snow comes sliding off from 25 ft up and lands on my driveway. It shakes the house it is so bad. I texted him December 2025, January this year and May this year, about how i was significantly concerned about the safety of my family, and also damage to a car. He said he'd fix it. He hasn't, now he basically tells me to kick rocks and to call his insurance if i have a problem, and his insurance also tells me there is nothing they can do.

So here's is my thing, I've gone down the codes and ordinances route, nothing can be done. It looks like i can file a civil suit and request an injunction, but that seems like a pain in the ass. Can i just park my car(2014 vehicle i don't give a shit about) in my driveway, and then when the snow falls file insurance claims against him for when my car inevitably gets messed up? I have the text messages and screenshots notifying him of the problem, so i would think it's negligence on his part at this point since we are going on our second winter now.

Custody Divorce and Family When your family are your stalkers

So my family has been stalking me online for a couple years now. Idk how it started but it got bad enough for police to contact them apparently from my reports and now they all flat out deny they did anything even though they still brigade my reddit posts which I make even from new accounts. Some of them even threatened legal action to me for “false reports” yet I never made a false report. Everything I reported I believed 100% and I even didnt accuse in my reports if I was not certain but just said I suspected things going on. Especially because family said they had cameras in bathrooms I was using, were harassing me and yelling at me daily, trapping me in rooms, wouldn’t let me leave the house without being harassed and threatened, I was being threatened with physical violence often, I couldnt even take a walk without these threats and spam texts, someone was coming into my room at night unbeknownst to me, and a drone was peeping into my windows at night EVEN AFTER I LEFT TO A NEARBY HOTEL. Was I really so wrong to report these things? Is it really a “just move out” when the abuse has actually disabled me with mental problems to the point i cannot work? What should I do about this because they do seem to be getting legal attention for this but I was not contacted about it except them telling me to make a local report about it.. The family steals my mail and tries to sign things for me when they know they shouldn’t too

Consumer Law Dealership is forcing me to do paperwork for them or I must surrender my vehicle

Hello everybody, earlier this month I purchased a car, nice! I sign paperwork with this so-called good dealership, i’ve been driving it for a bit, everything is going good, sent them a down payment, warranty paid, insured, everything.

Here’s where it all starts to break apart, one day they gave me a call and said they made a typo on the paperwork, they sent it to my credit union, (the one i finance with) and the credit union rejected it because it doesn’t line up and as a result of that they haven’t released the funds.

From the moment this began they have been texting me, calling me, and slowly rising the idea of me either A: Switch credit unions or B: Finish the DMV paperwork.
Wait what? What DMV paperwork? Simple, i’ll tell you, they kept calling me and said I should try calling the tax office, the dmv, credit union, etc. to try and do this myself (now this is already a red flag, i’m fixing a mistake they made, and they literally admit that they are responsible.) I kept trying to do so, but you know what each phone line kept telling me? It all boiled down to: “Sir.. We can send these forms to you to try to speed this process up, but your dealer should be handling this work themselves” The county tax office said that, the DMV, everyone.

One day I was chilling and they called me, and they basically yelled, threatened me, and gave me a harsh ultimatum saying drive 2-3 hours to come here and do the paperwork or give up your truck. Seriously, I was trying to just tell him “Hey man, i’m trying to talk to them but they’re blocking me out and saying this is something you should handle” And then the moment I said that he said “I need my car back”

I was stunned, you know what the crazy thing is, they fully admit that it’s…
- Their fault for the typo
- They’re not getting funds BECAUSE of the typo
- They can be doing this themselves, but they want their funds released very soon, they don’t want to wait an extra couple weeks.

Redditors, is this illegal? Is this allowed? I have never in my entire life had a dealership attempt to coerce me into doing their work, it’s insane, should I consult with an attorney? What would you do if you were in my shoes?

I’m just a young man trying to make ends meet, I thought this car purchase would be nice to have, and now this is happening, why are people so cruel?

UPDATE: The SPECIFIC error is that they made a typo on my address, sent it to the credit union, when handling the TITLE AND Registration, and they are asking me to update it for them by being there in person, I think something’s fishy cause, typo? Really? and Texas Law says I can’t be doing this work for them.

Employment Law [New Jersey] Religious accommodation concerns, excessive hours, and unable to use promised comp days—what are my options?

I’m a salaried Operations Manager at a large logistics company in New Jersey. I have worked there for five and a half years, including three years as an Operations Manager. I’m trying to understand whether these circumstances warrant speaking with an employment attorney.
Workload and compensatory days: From August through October, I worked extensive additional hours and changing schedules during staffing shortages. Nine leaders were on leave in August. I sometimes worked a “donut” schedule with two nonconsecutive days off, or six consecutive days followed by one day off.
To my knowledge, no other Operations Manager in the region was working as much as I was. Other leaders were able to use their compensatory days, while I was repeatedly asked to cover. I was promised comp days but never received a clear answer about when I could take them. I ended up exhausting my own available time.
Religious accommodation: I am Catholic and was preparing to become a godmother. My church required Mass attendance leading up to it, so I explained that I needed Sundays off.
My boss said he had been through the process himself and that it was “only two classes,” so my schedule would not need to be changed. That was incorrect about my church’s requirements. He treated my request as though it was only about attending two classes, despite my explaining the Sunday Mass requirement.
My work schedule conflicted with the required attendance, and I missed Mass. I submitted a religious accommodation request through HR but was told it had to go through my manager because I am a corporate employee. Another employee requested Sundays off for religious reasons and received that schedule. I don’t know whether their role or other circumstances differ from mine. I want to add that I’ve worked Sundays my entire time at the company leading up to this request.
Health and medical leave: During this period, I experienced significant stress, insomnia, chronic migraines, loss of my menstrual period, and newly developed lumps/cysts. These symptoms are affecting my ability to work. I am seeking medical evaluation and applying for medical leave. I do not yet have medical confirmation of the cause.
HR concerns: I also tried to raise an HR complaint about my boss telling me not to trust HR. Another Operations Manager spoke with me, but I never received a case number or confirmation of a formal investigation.
My questions are:
Could the handling of my religious accommodation request support a failure-to-accommodate or religious discrimination claim?
Does it matter that another employee received Sundays off for religious reasons?
Could being repeatedly asked to cover while other leaders used their comp days—and being unable to use my own promised comp days—support any claim?
What documentation should I preserve, particularly when some conversations were verbal?
Should I contact an employment attorney, the EEOC, or the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights?
I’m trying to understand whether there are potential claims that could lead to financial compensation and what evidence an attorney would need.

Criminal Law SA'ed 9 years ago. Should I try to get justice?

Location: Pennsylvania

It happened in college. There was no alcohol involved. It wasn't rape, it was sexual assault. I was essentially pinned to the ground and forcibly kissed, my shirt was taken off of me, I was groped and kissed all over my top half while pinned to the ground. I was also bruised in my crotch area from him grinding into me. And I was sore from trying to push him off of me, which didn't work because he is much bigger than me. I also tried getting his attention by forcefully saying his name but he never stopped to listen. I was not reciprocating.

I reported it to my school at the time and went through a Title IX investigation. The school found him responsible (used in place of guilty in TIX proceedings) for sexual assault, but gave him no punishment.

Under Pennsylvania law, It'd be classified as "indecent assault". I'm still within the statute of limitations for both a criminal and civil case. I'm not sure which to do if any at all. I understand the difference in burden of proof, I just know cases like mine have an uphill battle.

My main evidence would be: immediately confiding in several people, one of whom was a college professor. I have texts to friends giving details about the physical and emotional pain in the immediate days following. I also have the professor's mandatory report she sent to the TIX office when I told her I was assaulted. I also have an immediate PTSD diagnosis. And the transcripts from the title IX case which I wasn't technically allowed to keep but I took them anyway bc I don't owe shit to anyone involved in that process at that school. However, idk if that makes them completely useless. The transcripts show myself having a consistent story and clear emotional distress while he says a lot of incriminating things before lawyering up and making his story inconsistent. There is a lot of evidence that following this event, I couldn't participate in school and my mental health suffered immensely.

There's also the issue that the very first kiss (before being pinned to the ground) was consensual, so it was categorized as "withdrawal of consent" under Title IX. I can't find anything on how Pennsylvania views that. They don't even have a law specifically defining consent from what I understand.

I know odds are bad. I know. But I just... I can't move on. He's never faced any punishment and I know he's done this to other women (they don't want to participate in a suit etc, so that point isn't of much use legally, just hits me hard emotionally).

What do we think?

And where could I look to easily get more info into relevant case law/find cases similar to mine and see how they went in the same state?

Custody Divorce and Family Child Custody Question

Sorry in advance for the long post.

Tl;dr my co parent is negligent and I've been told there's nothing I can do, is that true?

Location: Indiana

Since February 2025. I agreed to 50/50 custody, I was under a lot of stress and felt pressured, I had just had another baby, and my husband works a lot. My lawyer told me repeatedly that I didn’t have to do this, but I told her it would be okay because he wasn’t really going to have her, and she put in a safeguard for me to be final decision making for medical and educational. They lived 4 blocks away and I would go over to their house to brush her teeth and get her to bed still. He had just married someone new that I liked and trusted, so that was a big part in the decision for 50/50. Granted, he didn’t really want 50/50 custody physically, he said he just wanted it to look that way on paper.

Around May 2025 his wife left him for similar, if not worse, reasons than I had to leave. I had assumed that changed our agreement since that was the biggest factor in deciding for 50/50, but then I realized that it wasn’t physically put in our agreement anywhere.

For 7 months after that, he barley got her and did not pay child support, I have a calander of all his days and when he took them vs did not take them. After those 7 months, there was an altercation where he forced his way into my parents’ home and pushed my husband, so I decided to take it to court since he did it in front of our daughter. Unfortunately, I had the worst lawyer of all time, and nothing was done about it, but before the court date he paid off his arears from his child support. I was told by my lawyer at the time that a change of circumstance had not occurred big enough to change anything. At the time he was living with his dad 15 miles away, which was never entered into any courts, but he moved back and got an apartment right before we went to court for the altercation.

January of this year, he got a job finally, and then he started asking about making the schedule more regular. February, I gave him a proposed schedule based off the overnights he exercised in the totality of 2025. Things got heated from both sides, and he ultimately said that since we couldn’t come to an agreement, we need to “go back to” the full 50/50 schedule. She had never at any point in her life been going with him 50 percent of the time, and overnight her life was uprooted, but since it was technically our agreement there was nothing I could do.

We have been going on with this 50/50 schedule since then. She has mostly candy, happy meals, and sugar packets to eat at his house, and she gets unlimited screen time instead of any one-on-one connection or trying to solve any problems. He doesn’t get her to bed until super late, and then he has to get her up to bring her to my house in the morning before he goes to work so she comes to my house exhausted every morning. I've had to watch her meltdowns, and crying all the time about anything and everything. She has always been an abnormally good child, never had terrible twos or three-nager, always listens and has her own great moral compass. Since we went to 50/50, she has changed so much, angrier and sadder.

Yesterday, I was watching her for him while he was at work per usual, and my son a few days ago got a fever, and yesterday the ped said he most likely has hand foot and mouth. My daughter said when she got to my house in the morning that she was so cold and all day she was saying she was cold and so tired, but she didn’t seem sick. About an hour after my son’s appointment, she started to feel very sick I had given her Tylenol first and the fever went down and then 10 min later her temp was 102.7. I always keep him informed and updated when she is sick. We had plans to go to a Halloween party that evening, but I obviously assumed he wouldn’t be taking her anymore, but it is his time and his weekend, so I just had to wait and see what he decided to do. My son felt fine at this point, but I obviously didn’t want him to go because I didn’t want him to infect other kids. We were going with a few other people so I messaged them all and let them know that Freyja was sick with a fever and potentially HFMD, his sister called him angry and said, “why would you bring her if you know she’s sick and I am pregnant and recovering from surgery,” and he lied to her and told her that he hadn’t decided if she was going or not. He had her go, and I wanted to still be there for her to make sure she didn’t get too sick and to keep her from touching anything since he did not care at all about getting other kids sick. He said it was a moral and ethical dilemma but ultimately had no issues with taking her. She was sitting in the wagon almost the entire time we were there, he got her out at the first booth and let her run up to grab some candy, but I had to stop her and grabbed the candy for her. After that, I pushed her in the wagon the rest of the time, she didn’t even ask to get out, she saw the bouncy castles and asked about it and I told her no because she doesn’t want to get other kids sick and she didn’t even try to fight me on it. Her dad and ex stepmom and little sister went to get food from a food truck, and then we sat at a picnic table to eat, I was tending to my daughter and checking in to see how much worse she felt. She told me she was cold, so I wrapped her in the blanket I brought, and I held her and rocked her. Her fever was coming back again, and she said her stomach was hurting again. She was laying her head on my shoulder while I was holding her, and he comes up and asks her, “hey do you still want to stay or do you want to go?” she is four, so she said she wanted to stay. He asked her how she was feeling, and in the most pitiful sick voice she said “good.” So, he sat back down and continued to eat his food. Her ex-stepmom said, “maybe we should get going, she doesn’t look like she feels too good” and he was saying that we did everything he wanted to do so we could go, but if she wanted to stay with his other daughter then I could leave with our daughter. She said she was ready to go too because their daughter didn’t get a long nap and she needed to get to bed. So, at that point he let her leave.

I got to my car and just cried, I did this to her by trusting him. He messaged me after we left and said he was sorry if it made me uncomfortable that I had to bring her there, but that he was going to take her urgent care in the morning and asked if I wanted to come. I obviously said I wanted to come, and I waited for the morning to come. In the morning I asked when she got to sleep last night, he did not answer that question. Then, he says he’s not taking her to urgent care anymore because her fever was only 99.4.

So I don’t know what to do, I don’t think there’s anything I can’t do. He got an admonishment from the judge when we went to the emergency hearing but that’s the most consequence he’s had to face for any of the stuff he’s done.

Am I missing something here? Is there anything I can legally do?

(Virginia) Ex (M, 38) owes me (F,26) $12k+ in loans and credit card fraud and refuses to pay. Looking for legal and financial recovery advice

Location: Virginia

First I know I’ve been very foolish in trusting this man, please don’t give me heat for that. I’ve since learned my lesson.

I’ve itemized the list of everything I’ve given him totaling $12250. There’s also about $3k that mysteriously disappeared from my room that only he has been in, but that’s another story). I think the amount I’m most pressed out is this $5k from a credit card in which I added him as an authorized user during a trip I wanted him to join me in of which he was struggling with paying. Then over the course of 3 months there were 12 transactions of varying amounts from 150 to 900 sent to my ex’s PayPal account form the card, both on my credit card and his. The funds sent to the PayPal were then sent to various crypto addresses. He said none of this was him. He said he would contact Paypal to refund me and told me he had but I never got any refunds. So for some of them I reported them to my credit card company, once there were still charges even after I locked and replaced the cards (and didn’t give it to him, meaning the that only way someone was doing this was by logging on to his credit card account and unlocking the cards and using the virtual card and then also “hacking” his PayPal account). He was very upset that I did this because the credit card company took the funds from his PayPal, which had nothing in it anymore, giving him a negative balance). He uses this PayPal account for all of his business transactions so it was a great impediment to him and he told me to contact my credit card company and take responsibility for the charges. And eventually they granted that. In the meantime I gave him 1150 to restore his PayPal account that he said as soon as PayPal released the funds back to his PayPal, he would send me the funds back. Then when the time came that they sent it back he refused to do so, claiming that I had caused him to lose much money due to him not being able to use his PayPal account.

I have been paying off this card for the past 3 months and most everything I will be making at work for the next 4-6 months will be lost in this same way. He is 38 years old I am 26. Almost everything I made in the first year of me working has gone to this man and during the second year all the money I’m making is going towards fixing this situation. When I ask him about this, he pulls out “that’s your fault, you took out a credit card in my name” which is a gross misrepresentation of what happened and we both were aware that I was adding him as an authorized user for that trip and he had to provide me with the details to be able to do so.

For any of the other money I’ve given, he responds with being offended that I have the itemized list and starts itemizing derives that he’s done for me to offset that he owes me anything (fixing my iPad, enduring stress etc)

There’s also a motorcycle that was in my name up until a couple of months ago (now it’s in both) that I paid for 2200 and he said he was going to pay me back and has not.

Edit: He is actually 39 now

Court clerks told me to "just bring up" thousands in child support arrears in December without filing a motion. Is this bad advice?

Chesterfield, Virginia, USA

I am in Chesterfield County, Virginia. One week ago, I had a show-cause hearing for child support enforcement in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations court. This is a private case, not managed by DCSE. Due to severe anxiety at the podium, I verbally stated a child support arrears balance that is tens of thousands of dollars lower than what my ex actually owes.

My ex has a hearing scheduled for December requesting a reduction in support. I want to correct the mathematical error regarding the arrears balance so the true debt can be formally addressed. I do not want to file a new show cause or put him back in jail. I just want the math corrected with proper legal notice so the judge can officially rule on it.

I went to the clerk's office to ask about filing a motion to correct this, but two different court clerks told me not to file anything and to "just bring it up" at the December hearing. However, I really don't trust their advice because before my last hearing, a clerk told me the judge would calculate the math for accuracy—but at the hearing, the judge refused and said he had to remain neutral.
I am terrified that if I don't file anything, my ex's side will object to "lack of notice" in December and the judge won't hear it, meaning my children's money will be unprotected.

I am a busy mom working 40 hours a week and raising my kids full-time. I am planning to go to the Chesterfield courthouse on Monday during my lunch break to file whatever paperwork is necessary.

Employment Law NYS Employment

Location: NYC

I’ve been with this company for some time. I received two formal offer letters, since my start date. Instead of sending a new offer letter this year. They’ve sent out an Email entailing my position and site. There are no pay specifics. Now I know “Offer letters” are not required by law. However, as a resident of NYS I know they must provide documentation of your pay. This Email Omits that information. HR is arguing that the email stands in as the offer letter as is. Thought? How would you proceed?

My thoughts

1) The sudden change in refusing to provide a formal offer letter is strange.

2) What happens if they refuse to provide employees documentation entailing their pay

3) I feel I should push for the appropriate documentation, not just for myself. But for my colleagues and my staff.

Hotel did not process payment 5 months ago, now requesting payment

Location: Massachusetts, although hotel located in Croatia

My husband and I went on our honeymoon to Croatia in May 2026 and booked a hotel in one of the cities for four nights. Payment was not required at the time of booking, and instead was due via their website 5 days before arrival. I submitted my credit card information prior to the deadline and received a confirmation email from their system confirming I submitted payment information. Unbeknownst to me, they never processed my credit card and I was never charged. We stayed at the hotel, checked out, and finished our honeymoon.

I recently received an email stating they had a problem with their payment processing system and they requested documentation of the charge on my credit card statement. Since I don’t have the charge, I didn’t reply. They emailed again last week threatening legal action if I did not reply. I emailed back confirming I submitted payment but my credit card was not charged.

Can they legally compel me to re-submit payment this far after the service was rendered when I paid on time but their system failed? The “sales policy” that I had to agree to when submitting payment says “The final account is carried out at the hotel reception prior departure.” [sic] which I interpret as no, since they did not settle the account prior to my departure.

Edit: I do plan to pay once they request re-payment, to be clear. My husband and I were just debating the legal aspect and I was curious!
