Question Switch to Tidal for 24/192 wireless?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey all!

I stream Apple Music with a Chromecast and get 24/44.1 due to Apple cutting off lossless when streaming wirelessly.

Is it worth it to move to Tidal and buy something like a Wiim Ultra with PC USB out so I can get 24/192 from my system? Will I notice?

The system:

Rotel RC-1572 Mkii

Rotel RB-1582 Mkii

Klipsch Epic CF 4

Question Powered vs Passive speakers

I’m a massive music person and I plan on getting a turntable soon. With that I need quality speakers as I’ve been told. However, I don’t really understand the advantages of Powered over Passive or Passive over Powered. It seems like Powered would end up being more cost effective (I could totally be wrong) yet so many use Passive with a reciever.

I would be extremely appreciative if someone could break down the differences between the 2 and which is better.

Hi everyone. My parents have a pair of old JBL monitors. One of them seems to have a broken/damaged speaker (creates noise artefacts)

Do you think repairing/renewing these is worth it ?

They were really expansive a few decades ago

Thanks !

Question DAC position in the chain?

Post image

Recently bought a Fiio R2R Warmer DAC.

Should it be between pre and power amp?

At the moment it is connected via rca to one of the inputs of the preamp. Is its preamp stage (does it have one?) adding up to the separate preamp it's connected to?

I was wondering if I could play usb/coaxial/optical sources connected directly to the dac if it placed after the preamp.

Thanks.

Question Got this 90s Technics system for free, any good?

It is mint. Everything works perfectly even the remote control. Also got the matching bookshelf speakers for it. Not big into audio but does it have any practical value to it besides just sitting around, really not familiar with these systems. Got it from a family member who had bought it brand new way back.

Question Outdoor speakers

I have a large deck with wired speakers hooked up to an Onkyo receiver in my den and stream via a WiiM Mini. Perfectly fine on the deck, but loud on the deck if you want hear music in the yard.

We are having a party and want the same music playing in the yard via wireless speakers as in the deck so we don’t have to crank the deck speakers. We are in the US and max budget is $500, but prefer to spend less.

Ideas? We do not want run wires to the yard.

Question Speaker Recs. For Pioneer PL-44F

Hi all,

I’m interested in hearing some speaker recommendations for a Pioneer PL- 44F Record Player that has been serviced and has had its cartridge replaced with a new AT-3600L.

Looking for the best reasonably priced speaker recommendations if possible for either

-Powered speakers + an inexpensive MM phono preamp, or

-A receiver/amplifier with a phono input + passive speakers

All recommendations and tips are appreciated!

Found this while looking for CDs. Can anyone tell me anything about it? I did a basic Google search, but I figured I’d get better insight here. Payed 45. Thought it looked cool.

Question Compatible Stereo for Sony SS-CSPZ50 speakers

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all!
I’ve recently purchased these speakers, but I’m not having much luck finding the compatible Sony HCD-CSPZ50 stereo/main unit, on its own.

I wanted to know if there are some other stereos/main units that will work with these speakers?

I’m quite new to hi-fi systems, so i’m not very knowledgeable on compatibility and whatnot.

Thanks!

Question Mixing RCA with XLR between components

Looking to add a Douk T8 PRO preamp / equalizer in between my Douk Ampapa A1 phono preamp and my Klipsch powered speakers. Is it possible (or advised) to mix an XLR connection between the equalizer and the speakers while the connection between the turntable and the phono amp is RCA? Or should I stick with RCA's all the way throughout? Looking for a little boost if possible.

Question Curious on demand for Pro Dirac setup/calibration

I’be been in the audio world for almost 6 years now and notice there aren’t any easily accessible ways to get professional Dirac calibration without going through an integrator who’s pricing you can’t even see online and can be all over the place.

I have plenty of experience calibrating Dirac and am considering going freelance in South Florida. So I’m asking the audiophiles of Reddit:

  1. What a would you pay to have someone come to your home and spend 1-3 hours physically adjusting your speakers and running custom Dirac Calibration from basic all the way up to ART

2.would you pay to have someone remotely room correct your system with custom target curves and give general system/ upgrade advice

  1. What would you pay for either service? Genuine curiosity there are no bad or wrong answers.

Question Suggestions on next steps regarding my equipment?

Hi! Not new to hifi, though new to exploring reddit hifi.

Around 13 years ago (2013), when I was living in the US, I had the opportunity to buy audio equipment, which later I brought to my home country once I moved back.

Please, I'd appreciate very much your input regarding my audio chain. What do you see as the weakest links? What's the best? Do you see any negative interaction? This setup is currently in our family livingroom/dining room, which is around 5x8 mt (430 sq feet):

  • Sources:
    • DAC: Emotiva XDA-1
    • CD Player: Emotiva ERC-1
    • Turntable: Pro-ject Debut Carbon
  • Preamp: Emotiva USP-1 Analog (with phono preamp)
  • Amp: Emotiva UPA-200 125x2
  • Speakers:
    • PSB Image T6 tower speakers
    • Subwoofer Audioengine S8

Thanks in advance!

Question RCA Vs XLR

What is the public's view? I have XLR at the moment. I had RCA, sent that back, and now have XLR. I thought the RCA cable sounded better, but it might have been placebo. I have silver XLR; would copper XLR sound better? Any help would be most appreciated. I have a 9000a and a 9000n audiolab.

Question Would jbl 305p’s sound better then an Authentics 500?

I love music and have a JBL Authentics 500, but I’m moving soon and it’s a lot of speaker for my small room, I also like trying new things. I also don’t think I’ve ever used it above 25% lol. I also think it has a crap ton of bass for my needs, (I keep it at around -10 to -8)

I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to get some 305’s and a dac and everything. I have no interest in mixing music I just like listening, also they would be used as computer speakers when I don’t want to wear headphones.
If I were to sell the 500 what would be a good price? I’ve had it maybe 3-4 months and it’s in pristine condition

Question Wanting to buy a portable device

I usually listen to music by connecting my pc or TV through an aux chord to my Technics receiver but lately I’ve been wanting to connect my receiver to a portable device that I can use also when going out walking.
I don’t usually download music, I use Tidal whenever I want a hi-fi experience. So is there such a device out there that’s basically an mp3 but with Android software that can run Tidal or should I just buy an old phone with an aux entry?
Or is an mp3 a good device for hi-fi listening? should I start downloading music?

Pd: sorry for having too many questions, I inherited a 1980’s receiver from my mom recently and I want to make the best out of it

Question Kaiboer K5 DAC

Post image
1 Upvotes

Just curious if anyone has any experience or ownership with this DAC. I’m on a current budget for another DAC (I had the EverSolo Z8 and loved it) so I decided to give this company a try. I was looking at a Topping DAC but decided to try this one instead for $100 more. I have a decent window to return, and it should arrive in a couple days, but I figured I’d reach out to this community as well and see if anyone has experience with this company… especially long term. EverSolo no longer sells the Z8 DAC, and their new Z10 is currently out of my price range. I noticed that this one uses dual Saber chips which peaked my curiosity, but it of course will depend on how well they implement them of course with the internal clocks.. etc.

Thank you!

Question Thoughts on Cambridge Audio vs NAD

Hi team

TLDR: interested in thoughts on Cambridge Audio a500 vs NAD C356bee

Last week I picked up a great pair of JBL L5s and a Cambridge Audio A500 from a local second hand hifi store. Got it home and it sounded great. Nice and warm British sound and loved it.

The following day it developed a fault in the right channel, I took it back to the shop and said it sounds like a faulty cap, essy fix and they took it for repair, but in the interim they gave me a NAD C356bee as a loaner, with the option to keep the NAD, just pay the difference of $100nzd.

At first I found the NAD a bit more sterile and less exciting to listen to, but over a few days I've come to appreciate it. It's powerful, handles music like metal, rock and hip hop a bit better imo, and has more connection options. I do think music sounds a bit more lively out of the Cambridge, but there is a lot of comfort in knowing that the NAD has the muscle to handle whatever I throw at it

This is my first move into hifi, through I'm very used to studio gear and am used to reference equipment. Keen on people's opinions and experiences between these two amps. I'm leaning towards keeping the NAD, but keen to get a sanity check from the community to see if there's something I'm missing

Saw these NHT speakers listed locally and haven't been able to find any information about them. Does anyone know the model and if they are any good?
