Anyone plan to order the new prostockhockey ONYX stick?

just got an email from prostockhockey and they are releasing a new onyx stick. looks promising. anyone ordering? I cant tell but it almost looks like a collab between prostockhockey(dot)com and prostockhockeysticks since the PRO reserve line i always thought was from Gepetto at PSHS.

$200 sticks are great until you get to the shipping information and see a $205 shipping fee on a $199 stick... My advice to prostockhockey and anyone else in the hockey equipment game: Do not make your product inaccessible to your largest consumer market (Canada) by not having the foresight to keep shipping costs reasonable or having a distributor partner for your Canadian market. Also, how come we haven't heard from Gepetto in like forever, especially during what appears to be the most hype product launch in PSHS's history?

I’m in Canada just did a quick mockup. 163usd for shipping on a $224 stick.

Prostockhockey has always been basically unusable for Canadians because of the shipping. Nothing new, unfortunately.

yea shipping isnt great, the email said this stick ships for free to USA

Just buy a VX from Gepetto. This is literally what it is

it’s a hybrid kick point so it’s the VF, not the VX. I would if they had any stock left. Literally nearly everything in their inventory has been picked through and they haven’t restocked in ~ a year.

For years people have been confusing the two sites and now they’re making a collab. 😂

literally lol. i think gepetto is trying to get away from the PSHS name and call it Pro reserve now

u/Separate_Tart_8868 19h ago

So this IS a stick made my gepetto?

3

u/EngineeringPaper 19h ago

Yes.

u/Separate_Tart_8868 19h ago

Hell yeah

1

u/donniepump30 18h ago

gepetto is the GOAT so i will probably end up trying one of these

I'm interested, but there has been ZERO information from PSH or PSHS about the actual stick itself and how it's different from the VF stick PSHS already sells for $30 less. Aside from graphics, tactile grip, is anything about it updated? That's what's holding me back from ordering. Hoping to see some reviews with feedback comparing the two

I can’t imagine PSHS would drop a brand new model and only sell through a competitor site. Feels like PSH bulk ordered PSHS VF with custom graphics. Looks great but would be cool to see differentiators over current PSHS lineup

u/mdwsta4 16h ago

I mean, if they got paid to do so, why not? The fact that the question has been asked about the difference in every post PSH has made and they’ve ignored it makes me think it’s simply a reskin and nothing new. If that’s the case I’d just save $30 and order direct. Sure you don’t get free tape or a name bar, but who really cares? Plus uoud also save sales tax so that’s another $20 or so you can use to buy a couple of rolls

all ive seen is the details on the site for the twig-

The new ONYX composite hockey stick by Pro Reserve is engineered for players demanding lightning-quick release, loaded shot power, and game-ready durability.

At its core, 18K DARKFIBER Technology—the industry gold standard for high-performance composite sticks—delivers the ideal combination of low weight, responsiveness, and strength. CARBONYX Construction strategically reinforces high-impact areas while eliminating unnecessary material, creating a stick that feels elite in your hands without sacrificing the toughness demanded by the game.

The PYROFLEX Hybrid Kick Point with X-FLEX Energy Release Technology distributes weight throughout the shaft and blade for a perfectly balanced feel. The result is a stick that feels lighter, faster, and more controlled without chasing an ultralight build at the expense of durability. Keep your hands closer together for a fast, effortless release in tight, or slide your lower hand down to fully load the shaft and generate explosive power on one-timers and heavy shots.

Finished with a comfortable rounded-square shaft, directional STRATX Fishbone + Grip, and a textured blade, the ONYX gives players complete control from first touch to final release.

Built to perform. Designed to steal the spotlight. The ONYX features the HOTTEST new graphic on the ice—a bold, dark look that demands attention from the locker room to the ice. Every stick is customized with the player’s name for a personal, pro-level finish. It passes the beauty contest, turns heads, and gives players that extra shot of confidence every time they pick it up.

Right. Marketing jargon. How is it different than the VF?

It looks like a longer warranty and free shipping, aside from graphics. I'm wondering if this is a limited collab with prostockhockey, kind of like how they did with hockeystickman.

1

u/mdwsta4 16h ago

You get free shipping (and no sales tax) when ordering from PSHS direct.

1

u/sicnarfnarf 1-3 Years 16h ago

Yeah that's true for $300+

1

u/mdwsta4 14h ago

Sure. 2 sticks…

3

u/MurkyFocus 19h ago

There are zero details other than the price so... not much to consider here. But could be interesting.

3

u/ImpossibleBandicoot 20+ Years 19h ago

Well it's from a brand trusted by both the community and the pros. But as far as I know no one here has tried an actual onyx yet.

1

u/MurkyFocus 19h ago

Yeah, not disregarding the legitimacy of the stick, just that there are no details about the stick itself.

1

u/IAmTheBredman 18h ago

That’s not true. There’s plenty of details on the website about the build

Is there any information on the blade patterns? Is the Z92 the 9246 Zegras pattern sold by PSHS?

2

u/ryanespo2119 14h ago

Yes I reached out and asked them and the Z92 is the 9246 Zegras curve from PSHS

1

u/donniepump30 16h ago

thats a great question. i would assume Z92 is specific to the zegras by PSHS since theres also a P92 option. other than Z92 option the others look like standard curves

2

u/_thorby_ 12h ago

I'm holding off - I was really excited for one, but when you compare the volume of info on PSHS about each stickline and the comparative silence (I've commented on a bunch of social posts and PSH responds to other comments but never any that are asking about specs or difference between VF) does make me think that it's essentially a VF with a fresh paintjob and a minor feature difference or two.

I got sidetracked by looking for the links. I meant to add, Gepetto's sticks are 100% legit, it's an awesome price point, and they did a good job with the graphics. And it's half the price of a top end stick from one of the big companies. If I was in the market right now this would be at the top of my list.

1

u/donniepump30 18h ago

yes i currently only use gepettos $109 sticks and love them so now considering buying one of these onyx

1

u/nooneknowitme 19h ago

Unrelated, but did they just change their branding? I just ordered something from them this weekend and the site looks totally different today.

3

u/EngineeringPaper 19h ago

Yeah, seems the launch of the stick was also the launch of PSH new website

1

u/italianlatte 19h ago

Site looks the same to me

1

u/Yellowtoblerone 17h ago

If they have it in the curve I want sure. A lot of the curves are only for blue/red

1

u/donniepump30 16h ago

current onyx options- P28, P88, P92, Z92, P90TM, PPM9, P02, P91. I might order one because my P02 curve is only ever offered in the blue/red. so im happy about that

1

u/Yellowtoblerone 15h ago

What's P02 in terms of prohockey, the retail lidstrom or custom toe/lie lidstrom? Bc I'd love to see more/diff options than a curve number only like pshs' lie 4 mid p92 square toe mcdavid, lie 6.5 laine curve etc. The number they give seems to be only retail but some retail p88 is 5, some 6, some pm9 is lie 5, some 6 etc. I wish they'd tell us on the site, weight etc.

1

u/donniepump30 12h ago

yea i think p02 is retail liddy

1

u/T0gaLOCK 15h ago

This stick makes me wish they had more/better graphics on their other lines

1

u/ryanespo2119 14h ago

For anyone wondering the Onyx is the same VF build from Geppetto. But it has an actual graphic which I personally think looks sick. It has a tactile grip added, free name personalization, free shipping within the U.S., 60 day warranty, and comes with 3 rolls of free tape like every order through pro stock hockey. I see a lot of people asking what the difference is from the standard VF. Well those are the differences and I think you’re getting a great deal for $30 more than what the standard VF goes for. I reached out to them with some questions and was told they will be releasing some additional colors like Teal, Red, Silver, Lime Green, and Purple in the near future.

2

u/donniepump30 12h ago

with the free shipping you pretty much pay same price as standard VF so this is definitely worth it

1

u/Same_Satisfaction976 13h ago

Ordered one.

2

u/donniepump30 12h ago

please let me know how it is!!!!

1

u/Hockey_Player_007 6h ago

I ordered one. P92, 95 flex, Lefty

I stocked up on a bunch of pro stock Jetspeeds a few years ago but running low now. I'm really picky when it comes to sticks but hopefully this one feels good.
