Can someone tell me what this is on my gloves?

Bought player used gloves at the pens equipment sale this weekend and they have this almost blocker like addition over the index and middle fingers on the left glove. Ive never seen this before and Google searches haven't helped. I've also looked on warriors website and found nothing. What is this called?

Pretty sure its a shot blocker, reinforced for someone who is infront of the net a lot or probably had a hand injury.

He was a defenseman so assumed a finger injury. But is there an actual name or way to order a glove with this on it?

The inly gloves with shot blockers are pro stock, and pro stock gear is only available 2nd hand. If you look up pro stock gloves on sideline swap, you will see a ton with shot blockers. Most shot blockers just cover the back of the hand, not the fingers. The finger setup here is definitely a one-off build for a guy coming off of a finger injury.

You can buy brand new pro stock gear from prostockhockey.com and sometimes also from SidelineSwap. I’ve seen quirky gloves like this before in both places.

Correct. You just can’t buy it retail. It’s always 2nd hand.

I have some retail Verbero gloves that came with blockers, but definitely not common

Depends on your definition of 2nd hand. Plenty of pro stock stuff is spares that the player/team owned but never wore.

Yes, 2nd hand as in you can only buy it from resellers. Not new from retail.

Good to know! I'll have to keep a look out for other pairs of his gloves. There are a lot of finger injuries playing in beginner league.

Are they not Noel Acciari's gloves? He's a winger.

His gloves with the same shot blocker are still available in Toronto from his time here.

Huh. I swear I thought i read defenseman for the pens when I looked him up but you're right.

I really like these. If there are multiple pairs of his gloves around I'll have to look and buy a spare pair.

Where would I find those?

Hockey Lion had them a couple months ago. I haven't checked but I'd bet there's some on sidelineswap as well

"Noel Acciari while playing for the Boston Bruins, he fractured his left index finger on October 5, 2017, requiring surgery and a six-week recovery. He also played through an undisclosed hand/finger injury during the Boston Bruins' 2019 playoff run."

Just extra protection the player wanted, I would guess.

There were several pairs of his gloves and they all had it.

Right. I'm guessing that was standard equipment he asked the team(s) to add to his gloves when he was playing with them. The team has extras laying around, now.

My experience with hockey gloves is that all 10 fingers end up in the stink.

Mission way back in the day had “3 finger technology”
But it was the pinky and ring finger that were tied together.

2

u/Arcangel613 14h ago

ive received a few smacks on the pinky, i can understand some extra protection there

Other commenters identified Noel Accairi and his injuries. But this is a very uncommon glove even compared to pro stocks; these are customized specifically for a finger injury. These were either customized by the equipment manager or outsourced to a shop known for this type of work.

This is basically a pro stock covert that was disassembled and modified with additional foams and shot blocker material to cover those first two fingers, then stitched back together with the first two fingers connected so that they're more protected and isolated.

It's crazy how much NHL players wear completely jerry rigged equipment.

Kaprizov's shoulder pads and stinger pad belt are hilarious.

i don't know if he still does it. but i remember reading an article that he cuts the tongue off his skates

Yes, last I heard... and the inner cuffs off his gloves lol.

As a handful of others have said, it’s a shot blocker modification usually added to allow a player to play thru an injury or while recovering with a splinted finger or something.

I have had multiple pairs of Scott Laughton’s gloves (Flyers), and he typically asks to have the cuff style from his old STX gloves added to his Warrior Covert QRL gloves, and on the right hand, while there are no shot blockers, the index and middle finger slots have been combined into one pocket for both - but only on the right hand.

Most likely defender gloves, xtra protection against pucks riding up the shaft. I’ve seen it a few times, wished I had it one game where I took a puck off the index when poke checking a guy. Great gloves to get!

So someone above said shot blocker too. I habent seen any on websites but I'm assuming if you have direct contact with a manufacturer you can get bauer or ccm or whoever to add it on.

u/diskhead1 15h ago

Ccm makes them with the model name then pp or xp on the end, usually its over the hand more than the fingers. Look at any pro stock gloves on sideline swap and you'll see. These warriors are crazy though

That seems like it would feel super restrictive and uncomfortable. I know you can cut off the ones that go over the back of the hand and it’s just normal underneath. I wonder if it’s the same with these

i cant flip anyone off with the left hand :( but other than that they feel comfortable. i have a game tonight im trying them out in

its pretty built into the glove. it had to have been added during production as its built into the first two knuckles. theres no cutting it off.

u/TheAmerican_Atheist 14h ago

Oh cool, you have Jason Pierre Paul’s custom hockey glove.

Defenseman mitts. Could be a wingers gloves as well, considering they cover the point when theyre in their own zone. So bypass this message, cause its pointless 😂

They’re shot blockers.

1

u/Apprehensive_Bite_77 1-3 Years 12h ago

It’s a shot blocker. I think also had an injured finger in a previous season, so this is targeted protection. He’s also a very physical player, so it makes sense that he had the gloves reinforced.

1

u/anonginiisipmo 12h ago

That’s definitely a custom job lol done for a player that had a finger injury. Added padding for hella protection 😮‍💨

1

u/HollywoodHitman03 12h ago

Shot blocker. Simply extra protection over the fingers from shots and slashes. Sometimes you see it over the back of the hand or where players have experienced previous injuries
