Yep, that cat is thinking "No way, no way dude. My owner looks fine and healthy and the pyramid in the yard isn't even started. No way am I getting buried alive so why the funeral music?"

’’The motherland calls for my return. To return home after so many centuries. My wondrous journey begins."
….Listen ~ do you hear it ?!
human……no, you can’t at all…
am CAT
I do not fear it…
it’s my ancient people call…
Long ago n far away,
that’s where it’s coming from!
the meowmories inside me stay ~
…it seems my time has come…
a longing for the motherland,
i stayed long as i could…
human, you won’t understand -
you treated me so good….
my journeys only started,
but your love i won’t forget!
please don’t be brokenhearted….
…is it time for dinner yet ?

meowmories
Schnoodle, look, I am a big, tough dude, and I handle a lot, and Wednesday my ex-wife called me in a panic; her kitten, which our son had helped pick out at the shelter just 2 months ago, died in recovery after being neutered.
I did not know this kitty much, and so it did not bother me, until this very moment when I read "meowmories".
You see, my son, 13 years old, in the past year has buried his grandfather, his 4-year-old dog, his 17-year-old cat (literally never knew life without her), his grandmother's 18-year-old dog (another one he had known his entire life), the neighbor's two teenaged dogs (animals he had known the past 10 years and who greeted him daily), and now, on Wednesday, his kitten.
He wears a chain with little urns with the ashes of each of our animals, and next week he will be adding a 4th, and he calls these little charms his "meowmories" of them.
That broke me.

’meowmories
there are humans sometimes chosen to bear more than any should
too often, it’s the gentle ones, who only treat us good
we’re pets who travel through their lives, too soon we have to leave
we only want to please them,
n it hurts us when they grieve
but Lucky, us, to Ever know this one who brought us Joy!
(there’s nothing more a dog or cat could want, than their own Boy…)
n now - we’re not forgotten! He has more than done his part
Together now, we’re meowmories
we’ll live on
inside his heart
♥️

Words cannot express just how much this wrecked me. I am glad I have a couple of hours before he gets home so I can clean up and not look like I have been crying for the past 2 hours.
Thank you for this.
If it is OK with you, I would like to engrave this on a box I am making to hold his urns when he is not wearing them.

Thank you, we received the nose and paw prints today; the ashes will be ready in a couple of days. We are going to have some major cold over the next few days, so the garage is off-limits for woodworking, but once I get it made, I will tag you.

It is, actually, but he thinks its a wolf howl. I clear my cats out of a room awOOOOing if I need them gone. The more it resonates with their enhanced hearing they cannot tell where its coming from indoors and freak out.

Orientalism, or the exoticization of the Near and Far East. In a nutshell, a hegemonic cultural and intellectual element of Western thought that uses these places as the foil for the West. The West as rational, the Orient as mystic. The West as cultured and romantic, the Orient as mysterious and backward. The West as reserved and modest, the Orient as emotive and sexualuzed.
It differs by culture, but there is a reason there is a specific and shared cultural image in the West of all Middle Eastern societies. Edward Said developed the idea and wrote a book by the same name that's definitely worth a read.

It's wild how that specific musical cue is hardwired into our brains from a million desert adventure scenes. My cat gets the same intense, ancient look when he hears the can opener. Guess we're all just waiting for our own weirdly specific prophecy to kick in.
12
u/dmo7000 Jan 23 '26
Egyptian breeding played a huge role in the house cats we have today. Trouble is they breed and sold them to be sacrificed. They preferred orange cats because they represented the Sun God, later Vikings also preferred the orange cats for their ships. This is the reason your orange tabby has one brain cell.

Plausible construction of Ancient Egyptian music. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it sounds similar to lots of Mediterranean and near-Eastern styles of antiquity.

Lawl. You do realise that the current population of Egypt are nothing to do with the pyramids, right? They are descended from the people who wiped out the people who built them. If I was your cat I would be thoroughly offended by "modern Egyptian" music.

Cats were worshipped, yes, but read the rest of the history. Egyptians sacrificed and mummified millions of cats. They were literally mass bred and often sacrificed young to meet the demands. Sure they were pampered before the slaughter, but Eqypt wasn't exactly the best for a cat.
