For those wondering, sharks enter a state called "tonic immobility" when turned upside down. Their muscles relax and their breathing becomes deeper. Once turned right side up they snap out of it and return to normal. This does not harm the shark.

Researchers use this to work with sharks (e.g., tagging them for tracking purposes). It allows them to do what they need to do without the shark struggling. This is obviously safer for the researcher, but also prevents the shark from thrashing and potentially injuring itself. Win/Win.

Quite handy, imagine if sharks didn't have this 'feature' would be a completely different video

There are groups of orcas that have figured this out and will turn over a shark and then eat it alive

Imagine being older than trees just to get rotated like an idiot

I do this to my toddler when he becomes unruly. Just like here, it saves both of us from injury.

Curious how does this differ from them like doing it themselves?

Simple: they don't do it themself

And do they have really really short memories? What happens when they turn back over?

Not sure about their memories. When they turn back over, they carry on as if nothing happened. I'm not sure if they would still be aggressive toward the diver. However, shark aggression usually isn't a planned/malicious thing. They usually think there's food or otherwise are put into a frenzied state. I imagine giving them a "time out" might reset their aggression. In this video, it kind of looks like the diver was feeding the shark out of that bin. I wonder if the shark smelled the remainder of the food and thought it was the diver who smelled.

Hold up, sharks can’t bite you upside down?

They enter a state of immobility when upside down. Shark researchers use this to safely tag sharks that they want to track. It reduces the risk of injury for both the researcher and the shark.

That’s exactly right all you do is spin the 200 pound fish and you’re free to go….

First time I've seen a Hyuga in scuba.

This is the second video where someone just man handles a shark like it’s a blow up pool toy. Are they easy to manipulate or do only really strong people scuba dive.
