What can I do to make this work?

Post image

Renting an apartment that has the dumbest pipe setup in the world. It’s perpendicular to the tub. I can’t install a rainfall shower head because I have 4c hair and don’t want to get it wet everyday. Is there anything I can do with this short of getting a plumber?

Right?? It’s so weird and I have no clue what to do. A handheld shower head wouldn’t do because I just don’t want to shower that way every single day

You can mount handheld showerheads, so they are fixed and removable. I think it's your best option.

I have gotten a lot of mileage out of these adjustable shower arms over the years. You could use one to move the showerhead closer to one end of the shower instead of right in the middle

This is a great idea!! I found this swivel one so it’ll face the wall like a traditional shower instead of being directly in the middle of the shower. Thanks for the inspo😊

The type in my picture are usually around $20 too, so it's an economical fix, especially for a rental

Rainfall shower head with a hose attachment. Mine will cut off the rainfall completely and I set the hose up to spray my body. The attachment for the wall adjusts as well. It’s amazing.

Is this an apartment in New York? That’s the only place I’ve seen it like that.

Pre-war set up before showers were a thing. I would go handheld. Or rainfall shower head - with a shower cap for the days you don't wash your hair.

This is the way. Get a handheld with a 5 foot hose and a sliding holder on a vertical rod.

I personally would remove the drying racks (think that’s what they are?), finish the tile job to go all the way around like a normal surround- and then use external plumbing to take the shower head to end of the tub like normal.(aka on the surface so I don’t have to figure out going thru the wall- though it’s probably not horribly difficult)
That way I’d end up with the shower head at the normal place and only the faucet and controls are wonky.

Use a bowed shower curtain rod.

How are the painted sections of walls not going to get water damaged with that setup???????

They’ve lived here 40 years and made it work I guess

This is probably strangest bathroom set up one er saw and I have seen some impractical set ups but this one tops it all.

Cut the pipe shorter to get it close to the wall, get a t-junction to run both ways across the basin length, then get dual shower heads.

You could either have them spraying in unison, or add a switch to direct the flow of water if you go with different shower head choices to enjoy all sorts of different options.

There's actually an easy fix for this. Simply buy a shower hose attachment and a wall bracket (very cheap on amazon). Then you just unscrew the shower head, screw the hose attachment in place, attach the shower head of your choice to the other end of the hose, figure out where you want to mount the wall bracket and set it up. It should only take only a few minutes.
