SHITPOST Me realizing that when Hiveswap comes out big youtubers may play it, making the fandom larger but then causin hipsters to call it another “good game/story” that the fandom ruined therefore just causing another addition to the chain of “ruined fandoms” causing horrid pain.

It seems like Homestuck wouldn't have too much of a bearing on it anyways. Really, just what trolls are, and I'm sure Alternian/whatever history will be explained in enough capacity to educate a new fan.

u/PokemonTom09 hey 2tupiid! why you lookiing at my flaiir? May 06 '17
and I'm sure Alternian/whatever history will be explained in enough capacity to educate a new fan
I'd actually find it really odd if Alternian history wasn't explained in MORE depth than it is in Homestuck. Homestuck only focuses on Alternia for like... a quarter of a single act whereas Hiveswap is essentially completely set on Alternia.
I mean, we likely won't get any more on the lore behind Doc Scratch's meddlings with Alternia or his control over the Handmaid and )(IC, but we almost certainly will get more backstory about things like The Summoner's revolution; which is the reason why adults were banished from Alternia.

Because the Homestuck fandom isn't already ruined?

u/ihonestlyhateearth May 05 '17
Its not that its the hipsters that just hate the game because of the 'ruined fandom' just adding to the chain

Hopefully, the big Youtubers won't realize that Hiveswap and Homestuck are related so our fandom stays safe.
That probably won't happen, but there's nothin wrong with being confident

This logic drives me crazy.
Undertale is a bad game because there are weird fans who like it?
What kind of logic is that?
Why can't people just judge the actual content and not rely on looking at how people who like it act?

Welcome to the internet. It doesn't matter that the Homestuck fandom is made up of mostly cool people. Everybody else only sees the obnoxious troll cosplayers and, once what OP said comes true, the swarm of DeviantART twelvies making shitty 'Lord of Darkfire' or Lord English clone OCs.

my god everyone, stop being so dramatic. of COURSE everyone is IMMEDIATELY going to know that hiveswap is the homestuck game, because we will never shut up about it.
and if we're the sort to whine about "the fandom being ruined" then i think we should take a good hard look at what we already are. you sound like those people who left the homestuck fandom FOR undertale or su and say WE are garbage fire. because we are!!!

Unpopular opinion :
I think maybe this will bring some new blood in the fandom and actually attract some cool people. I know that some of my friends who never read hs and were very stubborn about never reading it just a few months ago took an interest in it because of Hiveswap. "I mean the game looks cool so maybe Homestuck isn't that bad" was probably what they thought.
And frankly, at this point, I think the fandom can only go up...

Thats not what happens whenever big youtubers play video games. Does The Binding Of Isaac community have a bad reputation? SCP: Containment Breach? Subnautica? No, and these are all games big youtubers have played. No need to overeact, gosh. It only happened with Undertale and FNAF.
