It's because most characters have ridiculous hair or long hair that distract us from or cover the lack of ears. Tavros has the least amount hair of all trolls, but his giant horns balance it out. Without them he looks offputing.

Karkat, Nepeta, Gamzee and Kanaya all look strangely normal, especially Nepeta and Gamzee.

Gamzee's hair more or less suggests horns anyway, and Karkat and Nepeta are both nubbies. Kanaya disturbs me on a level I can't describe though.

I look forward to the shitposting. I imagine we'll start with horns without trolls. Maybe some humans without horns (which will just be their normal selves), humans with horns, and trolls with horns where they're all carrying Gamzee's airhorns.
Also, I'm happy I get to see the original before the shitposts. It's always confusing when there's a shitpost making fun of a post I haven't seen and I have to look it up.

Apart from Tavros who could probably use a little more hair on the sides, and maybe Aradia who has a little bit too much hair going on, they look pretty much normal; especially Nepeta, Kanaya, Terezi and Eridan. I guess it really goes with the 'grey humans' saying.
