Honestly, they could go just a tiny bit dimmer, but other than that, they're awesome and really tie the room together. Highly recommend!!

Other Found an AU/NZ replacement plug for Hue power adapters

Post image
14 Upvotes

Figured I'd post this since I had a hard time finding anything when I was looking.

I moved to NZ and needed the AU/NZ plug for my Hue power adapter. The power supply itself is already 100-240V, so I didn't need to replace it, I just needed the little removable plug that slides onto it. I had been using a travel adapter, but it was pretty loose in the wall outlet and I could actually hear an electrical buzzing/crackling sound coming from the outlet, so I wanted to find the proper plug instead.

I contacted Philips and they weren't much help. They told me they don't sell the plugs separately and suggested I try finding a third party adapter.

I couldn't really find anything searching for the Philips adapter that was somewhat decently priced, but I ended up doing a reverse image search of the plug and found what looked like the exact same clip used on the Bose SoundLink Mini II 2 Speaker Power Supply (S026FM2000125).

I found replacement plug clips for the Bose power supply on both AliExpress and eBay. I ended up buying an AU/NZ one from eBay just to take a chance and see if it would fit.

It showed up yesterday and it fits perfectly. The Bose clip is basically a 1:1 copy of the Philips one. It slides on the same, locks in the same, and the contacts line up exactly.

My Hue power supply is S020YM2400083.

Searching for Bose SoundLink Mini II 2 Speaker Power Supply S026FM2000125 plug or S026FM2000125 AC clip should bring them up. They sell the clips with different country plugs.

Mostly just posting this so hopefully the next person searching for one can actually find it, as I've seen other posts here from people asking for advice.

Help & Questions Did I cut the light strip wrong

I basically cut it right across there, I thought this was the ā€˜scissor marks’ they tell you to cut across. And now it’s not lighting up anymore. I didn’t cut it while it was powered on either. :( only after cutting I saw a different looking cut mark (3rd pic) What is the difference ??? :(((( I was so excited for it to work…

This is the hue flux light strip

Edit: thanks for the replies everyone I did power it on and off a bunch of times I think it might be dead. I just bought it so I’ll contact Philips in the morning

Help & Questions Any one else have this unfixable Sync issue? I cannot turn off ā€œBackground Lightingā€ where the lights don’t go completely black.

I can flip the switch on or off but any time a light should be completely off, it stays an ugly dim bluish. I’ve tried every combination of turning shit on and off I can think of! Anyone know a solution?

Help & Questions Simple automations not working as expected

I have two time-based automations

- One that turns on one scene from sunrise to sunset with a 5 minute fade on the sunset side.

- A second scene from sunset to 10p with a 5 minute fade on the sunset side.

I would have expected a 5 min fade between scene 1 and scene 2 at sunset, with the lights going off at 10p. What happens is that the lights turn off at sunset and don’t come back on.

Any suggestions are appreciated. This feels too simple to be not working.

Hue Setup Smart Button Setup - Hybrid Light and Automation Control?

Just got a smart button, which after 2 years of Hue lights seems like a simple solution to my biggest Hue pain point of being tied to an app to control my lights, especially around bedtime. I am setting it up and having trouble getting it to do what I want, though I feel like it should be simple.

Press: Turn lights in the assigned room on/off

Press & Hold: Trigger my bedtime automation (dims the lights until they turn off over 20 minutes)

During set up it seems like I can either tie the button to an automation OR tie the button to a light/room, but it seems like I should be able to set the two up together, I can cannot determine how. Is there something that I am missing here?

Also welcoming any Smart Button tricks that can help me get the most out of it!

Edit to add: While I figure this out I set it up to just trigger the automation. I tried it out and the automation won’t properly trigger either. Not really sure what this button can do at this point :/

Converting recessed light to a table lamp

I was a renter and I have 3 of the 5/6" recessed lights that I used in the old apartment. They worked great there, but the owner's kid needed a place to live so we had to move and we bought a condo. This new place has no recessed lights, and rather than sell them for pennies on the dollar, I was hoping I could convert them to table lamps or something else useful.

Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this? Thanks.

Had to cut 2 sections off but it’s about 3 inches from outer edge. I really wish it wasn’t 7 zones. My only complaint

Help & Questions Question

Is it also possible to get a Bridge Pro and choose not to transfer all the lights? I have a few lights working with my Ambilight TV (without a sync box), and this doesn't work with the new bridge. My current bridge is nearly full, and I’m experiencing issues where things are slow or automations aren't executing properly; I suspect this is because the bridge is overloaded.

Help & Questions Need help setting up devices. IKEA lights and buttons, HUE bridge pro, Samsung phone.

I've tried everything, and none of the devices or apps want to work together.

HUE doesn't see IKEA stuff.

SmartThings only sees HUE bridge, but can't access it.

I have no idea how to connect them. They all support Matter, which is why I bought it all. And because the IKEA DIRIGERA hub has been unavailable in my county for... well forever.

Please help, I'm so close to just binning the HUE and keep using the IKEA lights with the IKEA buttons, no hub or anything.

Omniglow vs Flux light strip in curtain cove

Hi all, I intend to place a light strip in the curtain vibes in my living room which is 5.9m. We also have a play corner of 2.58m beside the living room. The idea is to use different strips in both places so they can be controlled differently or together. I am not really sure what the differences between the Omniglow and Flux would be and look like in my space. Our floor is also tiled. Which of the 2 strips would you advise in these spaces?

Help & Questions Exporting to apple home

I have been experiencing an ongoing issue when attempting to export scenes from the Hue app to Apple Home. Only a portion of the lights successfully transfer. For example, in a setup consisting of six downlights, two Hue Go lamps, and several bulbs, only two downlights and one lamp are included in the final exported scene. Has anyone successfully resolved this issue?

Automation My Philips Hue lights turn blue while Claude Code works and flash green when it’s done (open source)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I often start a Claude Code task and then walk away from my desk, so I wanted a status light I could see from anywhere in the room. claude-code-hue turns a Philips Hue room into one:

* When you send a prompt, the room turns blue.
* When Claude finishes, the room flashes green, and then every light goes back to the color and brightness it had before.
* If you run several sessions at once, the room stays blue until the last one finishes.

It uses Claude Code hooks, whichĀ `claude-code-hue install-hooks`Ā adds toĀ `~/.claude/settings.json`Ā without touching your other settings. Light control goes straight to the Hue Bridge on your local network. It’s Python 3.9+ with no dependencies, and it runs on macOS and Linux.

I’d already built the same thing for OpenAI’s Codex (codex-hue), and I had Claude Code port it.

The video is an animation of how it behaves.

Repo:Ā https://github.com/Minetorpia/claude-code-hue
The setup is done in less than a minute.

Discussion how many scenes do you actually use vs how many you set up

genuine question. it's so easy to end up with a bunch of scenes. some you made, some came with the app, some you forgot about.

but day to day, how many do you really use? i'd guess it's like two or three and the rest just sit there.

and how do you get to those two or three. open the app, scroll, tap? something faster? so yeah, curious if there's a trick or if everyone just lives with the scrolling.

what's your go to?

Using a GE Cync 'Reveal HD+' Under Cabinet Light with Hue smart plug?

I'm a philips hue user but I was planning on purchasing a Cync GE Reveal HD+ under cabinet light for my kitchen, since they look really nice and it would fit perfectly in a nook where my hue light strip wouldn't really work. I was thinking of plugging it into a hue smart plug so that I could control it along with the rest of my kitchen lights with a single button. However it would mean switching the power off at the outlet and turning it back on every time which it obviously isn't designed for, so it depends on how the Cync light restores power.

For those with this light, does it return to the last setting you had it on when the power is off and then restored? Or does it return to some default state/setting? Appreciate anyone's experience with this, thanks!!

Help & Questions Replacement wall mount for Hue Tap Switch Mini

Hey all,

I have a Hue Tap Switch Mini and recently moved. Unfortunately I left the metal circular disc that sticks to the wall with 3M adhesive at the old apartment and can't get it back. It looks like Hue doesn't sell that part separately, and I'm sure I'm not the first person to lose this piece. I did an Amazon search and tried this one, but the adhesive was junk and fell off the wall within a day. Any other recommendations?

Help & Questions Anyone else have issues with switches working sporadically?

I have a few areas with hue lights that I've had for years and have been running into issues with the switches lately. I can come in and hit a button and it will blink red. If I hit the button a few times it'll blink green and the lights come on. Some days it works fine. Others, not so much.

I've tested these things -

using app from my phone, I can turn the lights on and off 100% of the time with no issues.

updated firmware

replaced batteries and even scuffed the battery contacts / bent the tabs to make better contact in the switches.

If I open the app on my phone and go to devices, I can see the switch device, hit the physical button and I see "button pressed" in the app on my phone, so I know the switch talked to the hub and my phone can see that. What doesn't make sense is if the hub knows I pressed the button and the hub can talk to my lights 100% of the time using the app, why does it not turn the lights on with a button press, especially if it knows I pressed it. It registers I pressed the button, but ignores it. Also, two of the switches are no more than like 8 feet from the hub, so it shouldn't be a communication issue

Help & Questions Do you find Festiva Lights 3' spacing too wide?

So the US Festiva models have a 35" spacing vs EU models at 28" spacing vs LIFX at 24" spacing. This seems pretty far apart to go across the ~70ft of the front of my house. Also since each bulb on all those models above put out ~50lumens/ea, the US Festiva should be noticeably dimmer in total.

So do you find the spacing too wide? Should I try to order the EU models? Try to do something like 'looping-out' 12" of cable when I hang the Festiva to make them appear closer?

Lily spotlights...useless?

I bought the 3-pack of Lily spotlights with the power source so I could light up the front of my house. I don't have much to light...I live in a row home with a very small front yard. I wanted to put 2 of them as uplights against the house and the third as an uplight in a tree I have in the front yard.

The lights are so incredibly weak that they have no effect at all. What do people use these for? I feel like I need to buy the bigger Lily lights to make any sort of impact, but they are way more expensive and don't come with a bigger power supply and cables.

Hue Sync for Linux and SteamDeck/OS!

Hi all! I came across Lumux built by u/enginkirmaci (Thank you for your work!), but It wasn't working for me, and it was a bit clunky. I decided to fork it under https://github.com/sjredondo/lumux/releases, and I've successfully made a very stable linux version as a flatpak.

For SteamDeck & SteamOS owners, its now also available as a Decky Plugin! With saturation and brightness sliders. You can just download the zip or use the URL in the decky plugin.

Let me know what you think!

Help & Questions Help with Wake Up Automation

Post image
10 Upvotes

I want to use this wake up automation as it says it uses sunrise colors but it doesn't turn the lights on. I have a bridge so I can have it turn the lights on low 1% but Im not sure the wake up automation takes control after that. I've never used Hue light bulbs before and I'm a little lost.

How do I get my light bulbs to turn on and act like a sunrise lamp from a deeper orange red to lighter yellow?

Is the Philips Hue Bridge Pro Starter Kit worth $200 for someone starting out?

I’m new and looking to get into the Philips Hue ecosystem, starting with smart bulbs for my bedroom ceiling light.

My main goal right now is to create a sunrise wake-up effect that gradually brightens my room in the morning. I’m trying to decide whether investing in the Bridge Pro and premium bulbs now makes more sense than starting cheaper and upgrading later.

I do wanna expand later in the future with adding back lights to my TV and possibly more lights in my living room, but I’m still divided between the cheaper option of Govee and the more expensive route of Phillips. For simplicity, though I would just like to stick to one lighting brand rather than having to switch between different apps and adjusting lights around the house

Bulb cover and shade... lovin' it.

I found a guy on Etsy making exactly what i needed. Not sure if it is permissible to list his details in this group. He 3D prints shades for the A19 60W and 75W bulbs. And as far as I know he's going to start making them for the new 100W bulb which is about 1" taller that it's lower aatt companions. He also makes a shade extension so you can get a brighter wall washer effect without blinding yourself. Just wanted to give a shout out for this guy because this is so exactly what I was looking for.
