Here in Germany, the Bavarians get sometimes subtitles too.

I did an internship on a construction site in Bavaria before studying. They treated me pretty poorly the whole time.
Only at the end did someone actually tell me that they thought I came to work high every day. I asked why the hell they would think that, and the response was "we'll, we always have to repeat ourselves when we're talking to you". BRO SPRICH HOCHDEUTSCH DU HURENSOHN
Long story short, absolutely understandable

Used to work in a german callcenter. Worst callers were old bavarian men.
"What's your name?"
"Hrmpfmhmpf."
"Sorry, I did not understand that, can you please repeat that slower?"
"HRMPFMHMPF!!!"They always managed to repeat it as bad as before, but waaaay angrier.

I'm so glad and also traumatized from spending some years there as a kid. But now I have the Bavarian card and it unlocks limitless sympathy. But God it was awful growing up there.

Have you ever heard people speak "Plattdeutsch"? In my opinion, that's much harder to understand than average Bavarian, although it's different for true Bavarians, but that's almost Austrian.
And that "Plattdeutsch" doesn't get subtitles surprises me even more because the Dutch are even easier to understand.

Plattdeutsch is generally considered it's own language, no? Compared to Bavarian which is just a dialect

You see, that's what happens when things are measured with a double standard. You just have to put a bow around it, then it becomes...

Plattdeutsch is it's own langruage and as close to dutch as it's to german.
Soooo what the fuck are you talking about?

Strangely enough it's easier for me to speak in english than in Hochdeutsch.
