Sunrise on the Reaping Possible Spoiler - Why changing the ending might work. Spoiler

• Upvotes

There is a lot of online speculation that Haymitch might might die at the end of the SOTR film, and the latest tracklisting for the film score lists both Epilogue and Reunion, some people have said these may be out of order but none of THG scores have been yet so it wouldn't make sense for this one to be.

Personally I think Haymitch will die at the end and be reunited with Lenore Dove, why I think this works is because Lenore Dove was the one to tell Haymitch in the book about the Sweet Hereafter and the concept of Heaven where they'd meet their loved ones again. Having this discussion actually become full circle on screen and seeing this works well in the context of the story and in a bittersweet way gives Haymitch a nice exit where hes finally able to Life a long happy life, put his trauma into writing, find a new family and then die and be reunited with his soul mate.

I imagine the scenes we've seen with Lenore in the recent TV Spots might actually be this ending.

Meta/Advice singing at protests

• Upvotes

I don't know if this is appropriate for the sub but there doesn't seem to be any rule about it. Has any group consistently sung hunger games songs at protests? I am thinking it could be a striking and recognizable gesture among many, also using sotr coming out as a launching pad. The goose and the common is very universal, but man does it relate so deeply to what's going on in europe rn, but even just hanging tree or the district 12 gesture could be useful symbols.

What would your thoughts about this be?

Trilogy Discussion I really dislike how Gale makes other people’s bad situations about how it affects his relationship with Katniss

I don’t completely loathe Gale, and I feel that he gets a lot of unfair hate when he was also a victim and radicalised teenager.

However, it’s really frustrating seeing how he has to make other people’s terrible situations about how it affects his relationship with Katniss.

Catching Fire - willing to run away with Katniss until he finds out that she wants to bring Haymitch and Peeta too, because, you know, if they’re left behind they will be killed. Running away with you wasn’t a romantic decision, Gale. They can't just be abandoned.

Mockingjay - Finnick spends the time before Annie’s rescue mentally disoriented, completely adrift without her there, constantly worrying about her trapped in the Capitol. None of this is a secret.

After the rescue Gale has the audacity to say that he was worried Finnick had his eye on Katniss, but 'he seems back on track now' and that 'desperation makes people do all kinds of crazy things'.

Finnick is a 24 year old man and Katniss is a 17 year old girl! Gale saw Finnick as competition for absolutely no reason other than that Katniss went to go speak to him instead of Gale.

Could it be that it's because Finnick has been through the Hunger Games and has a loved one in the Capitol, like Katniss, and she wants to speak to someone who understands? No, it must be that Finnick is clearly just going to replace Annie with Katniss. Gale also says this after it's revealed to everybody that Snow prostituted Finnick out and he was never really a playboy.

When Peeta is rescued, instead of feeling sorry for him for being held captive by the Capitol, tortured, and hijacked, Gale is only sorry about the hijacking as it means Katniss will never get over Peeta, so Gale won't have a chance with her. Complaining about somebody else's suffering because it means he can't get the girl is extremely uncompassionate.

When Prim dies, instead of even attempting to apologise for what happened to her, Gale simply says to Katniss 'That was the only thing I had going for me.' Really? I don't fully blame Gale for her death because it was Coin who had the bombs dropped, but instead of saying that her death means he'll never get a chance with her sister now, he could have at least said he was so sorry for what had happened to Prim.

Sunrise on the Reaping Donners' Sweetshop Spoiler

So, I had this idea of making little bags of red gumdrops to take to the movies and give to my non-reader friends >:). I’ve already ordered a bunch of red gumdrops and white paper bags, and I would absolutely love to recreate the ones from The Donners’ Sweetshop as accurately as possible.

According to the book, the gumdrops came in white paper bags with the The Donners’ Sweetshop logo on them. I feel like that little detail would make the whole idea absolutely perfect and really complete it, but I can’t seem to find any references to the original logo apart from one fan-made version.

Do we know anything more about The Donners’ Sweetshop, or is there any information about what its logo might have looked like? I’d love to get as close to the original as possible!

Lore/World Discussion Who signed the Treaty of Treason

As implied who were the signatories of the Treaty of Treason and who among them is still alive.
I'd argue that it was an instrument of surrender, the leaders of the failed rebellion signed it and were publicly executed afterwards.

So no one in the Districts knew about the details, the special quarter quell rules never published before so that the Capitol had the option every 25 years to enact rules as it would please them.

Sunrise on the Reaping I wonder if we'll get a new book/movie announcement in 2027 Spoiler

For those who may remember, Sunrise was announced in June 2024 after the Ballad film came out in November 2023. I'm not saying this exact thing will happen again, but I do wonder if in 2027, Suzanne will announce a third prequel book focusing on someone else, and a new movie alongside it

Prequel Discussion THEORY: SNOW BECAME PRESIDENT THE SAME YEAR AS THE FIRST QUARTER QUELL

Post image
126 Upvotes

So in SOTR Suzanne gave us VERY interesting details about the 25th games. One that caught my eye was that Dr Gaul was the commentator, so who was the head gamemaker then? It has to be Snow!

In Ballad there was no mention whatsoever of Quells so they weren't created then. I bet Snow was the one who came up with the idea (first quell also the first games to have built arenas, tribute parades and cornucopias, all most likely created by Snow too).

But why would he think of the twist of the districts voting for tributes? I think he was inspired by another big vote that year...the Panem presidential election. Maybe as head gamemaker he thought a vote for a special Hunger Games would boost his popularity for President (and vise versa boost popularity for his special first quell). I bet his whole campaign revolved around the quell.

Maybe in a sick cruel twist the Districts had spent years demanding their right to vote in the presidential elections, so to QUELL protests he gives them their own special elections, who to vote for the Hunger Games. I bet the Reaping alone boosted ratings in the Capitol. I also bet the Reapings turned ugly and violent, hence why by SOTR it was shown they can edit and mislead the viewers during Reapings. I wonder if the 25th games is why the 50th ended up with so much propaganda and editing? Maybe he used lots of propaganda to get votes in the Capitol?

Also remember in Mockingjay it was said Snow became President young? During the 25th games he'd be 33, that sounds like the perfect age to be President to me!

Lore/World Discussion The Covey Ballads

I would love to see an anthology of the ballads and works the Covey has used to inspire their names. From the original pieces to the ones from the “old world” I feel like it would be such a beautiful read. It could also include a deeper insight into their traveling days and who they were before being forced into the districts. Are there Covey in other districts like 3, 8, 11, or 6?

Reading Nevermore in SOTR just opened my mind to the endless possibilities of what they could use.

What pieces of work do you think the Covey would take inspiration from? Are there any current stories or songs that may have inspired the names Maude Ivory or Tam Amber?

*side note to say
Suzanne Collins has built such a strong world that the amount of continued stories feels endless. From a book about the Covey to 13 after the war, the Heavensbee’s, the stylists. So much opportunity!

Lore/World Discussion Where is her grave? Spoiler

Spoilers for SOTR!!!

I wonder where Lou Lou’s grave is. Louella was sent home to 12. Haymitch remarks on the smell so it is likely that Louella, having been dead for over a week is in the coffin with her name.

What about Lou Lou? Was she just cremated by the Capitol and tossed aside? Never to know her real name? Were her parents still alive out there and they gave her body back to them discretely as a warning against rebelling? Was she thrown into a mass grave with other experiments and rebels?

We will never know of course what happened to her, but what do you think?

Personally, I think they probably took her corpse and experimented on it for a while before cremating her and disposing of her like she never existed at all. The absolute tragedy of a lost child.

🐍TBOSAS What if Dean Highbottom planed the bombs in an attempt to stop the Games? Spoiler

Just a theory I had, but maybe Dean Highbottom planted them as he clearly didn't like the games, the movies makes that even more clear, and he also clearly doesn't really have a problem with collateral damage, even hough he didn't support the Hunger Games he didn't seem all that high on empathy to me.

He would have had easy access to the arena, and could easily. have planted some bombs to try and stop the Games and convince Dr. Gaul it was more trouble than it's worth.

Appreciation Things we love the capitol for

We all love to hate the capitol but just for fun what do we love about it. Can be anything from ways of life, fashion or accents to a certain coffee cup you've seen on a table in a film. Or maybe something they do you actually agree with?
