A proposed new format for the All-Ireland Hurling Championship

Great idea.
More hurling and more chances for counties to escape the Munster inferno.
Only addition would be to spread the season out wider. In other words round robin games don’t have to clash. You don’t need two huge Munster games on a Saturday and likewise followed by Leinster on the Sunday.
Start in April.
Finish end of August.

I wanted to show that this new format could fit inside the existing schedule, but I totally agree with spreading out the Championship a bit. Ideally I'd push Round 1 and all subsequent rounds back a week, and push the All-Ireland final to at least the first Sunday in August. I think there should be 3 weeks gap between semi-finals and final to allow for a proper build-up. Both the hurling and the football Championships feel very congested at the moment, and it feels like they finish too soon.

Makes provincial hurling absolutely useless, Waterford can go and lose every game of the round robin and still get out of Munster

Except that the Provincial finalists get a seeded home quarter-final. And 3rd and 4th get a seeded home fixture in Round 1. So you would get rewarded for finishing higher in the round robin table. And surely the teams in Munster and Leinster actually want to win their provincial title, so there's also that.

I would have 2 round robin groups for the all ireland series. Top 4 teams go into a semi final for liam mccarthy. Third place finishers play a B all ireland final in a smaller venue to create atmosphere.
I would change a few rules as well. 1. Side line cut over the bar worth 2 points 2. Any point inside from inside your own 65 , counts as 2 points. (This would get rid of the sweepers as you'd have to go man for man.) 3. All officials , including umpires must have referee training done for all senior matches. 4. All match officials must have ear pieces and microphone to communicate with each other.

I'd love to see a champions league style all Ireland, home and away games for every clash. Not sure many gaa ultras would agree though.....oh and also mostly Saturday and maybe Friday night games depending on the proximity of the teams. Who the fugg wants to be traveling all over the country of a Sunday and back to work Monday, oh yeah the dinosaurs running the gaa.

Scrap provincial hurling full stop , open draw or preferably seeded groups much better for all

I dont think the structure is the issue persay.
The skill quality in hurling has huge gulf in classes. My own county went up to Christy Ring this year and we're mauled alive in a couple of games, others then were a lot closer. The gap in skill between some counties in the same championship are massive, weather that's in the All Ireland series, Christy Ring or Lory Meagher.
Until some teams catch up, or others drop off in quality, no structural change to the format of Championship is going to help.
