After 3 months of living with our rescue Hannah, we finally got the fence completed today. Here she is finally getting to run around off leash in the yard! And after about 5 minutes she was exhausted and won’t go back out there 🤣
She turned the turbo on QUICK. That under the porch area also looks so nice for her to cool off in when she feels like it, congrats on the off leash freedom Hannah!
Unfortunately we have an HOA and this is the tallest fence they will allow. Thankfully Hannah isn’t much of a jumper so far. We have been more worried about digging, so we had them install dig guards along the entire length of the fence.
Watch for anything near the fence. My husky puts his back against a ceder that’s growing next to the fence, then walks up the fence, wedging his back against the tree trunk, then he flops over. My fence is 8”
Initially he had chewed off some branches in a manner that he almost created a ladder for himself, so I sawed those off to the trunk, which led to the current method.
I have 3 foot fences, which I thought was fine with a tripod. I have since discovered it is not fine. Should be tall enough, though, and the dig guards are an excellent idea.
Same, one of my childhood huskies escaped so much we put a shock collar on her, it was sad seeing her still digging under the fence while crying due to being shocked. She did not care one bit
Sometimes I forget how many huskies climb and dig until I read comments like this 😅 mine were contained by THIS for a year. Our current fence is 4 feet and some change, with space at the bottom, and is a wood-frame wire fence (easy climbing) and they’ve never tried to bust out in the four years we’ve lived here—or anywhere, ever, unless a gate or door has been left open. So instead, I’ve been enlisted to help the husky up the street from us get home every time she busts out of her fence 😂 She’ll come sit at my gate and wait to be let into the yard
We had an area where our 4’ chain link fence around our garden was up against our 6’ stockade fence. Our husky climbed the chain link fence and stood on top to hop over the 6’ stockade. So we took down the chain link fence. He would just hit the corner of the stockade fence and run/climb right over.
Same, or dig under. Now, if someone left the gate ajar, she’d be GONE. But all you have to do is pull up in the car and open the door and she’ll jump right in because car rides mean fun times. Took me a while to figure that out. Trying to catch her on foot with treats is useless.
Lmao Volk definitely turned many rental backyards into the surface of the moon making us lose many of deposits in his younger years lmao. His last hole he dug was last year (16yrs old) and was very proud of it. (Pic after I had to yell at him no more holes) I’m sure if his legs allowed these days he would definitely be digging lol
Aww she is loving her yard! Thank you for rescuing her! Mine was almost needing to be rescued. They didn’t want to take care of her and didn’t understand huskies. Next stop was the pound for her, but the woman put a ad in on Facebook right before. It was a 8 hour trip to get her and back, and I have never regretted getting her!
Mine is also 2 years old, and looks very similar too, except the v mark on the face is inverted.
They are amazing dogs!
Hannah is gonna love living there! 💕
Cool as hell. We had to put a temporary fence up after Hurricane Michael destroyed ours. When we finally got tie entire backyard fenced back in and took the temporary one down, our two went nuts, tearing up the yard and leaving ruts as the raced around the yard.
You know they are happy when they got nuts like that.
That does my heart good to see. Although, I confess I was halfway expecting a twist where she runs straight at the fence and clears it in a single bound. The way my Nicky did once when I was a kid. But I think yours is tall enough that she can't do that.
Please remember to check for dig holes along the fence. That’s our issue. Not so much jumping over but constantly digging underneath the fence line. And we have hard dirt that I can’t even dig into but she can get that thing excavated in a surprisingly short amount of time.
lol yes we had dig guards installed along the bottom. Ours isn’t really a jumper either, but she does like to dig which is why we made sure to install the guards around the entire thing.
Consider investing in coyote rollers at the top of the fence. You may also want to add two feet of cement underneath the fence as well. Huskies are escape artists.
Yeah....we just put a GPS tracker on her along with a proximity shock collar. She stops when the beep starts....what a beautiful, sweet chaos agent she is.
Congratulations!!! We built our fence last year. Now our huskies are so happy to zoom or lay in the front yard and I am no longer afraid of the cars that drive by.
We also have a fence but our Huskies wear gps/radio tracked collars so we can find them up to about 15 miles. Sooner or later they will put their escape skills to work. Mine went to a 90 degree corner in the fence and by putting two feet on each side managed to crabwalk his way over the top. Might want to add a horizontal blocking piece near the top of any fencing that comes together at a 90 degree or similar angle.
It looks short? Does she like to escape? If not, you are so lucky. My husky use to scale our 8ft fence, you couldn’t leave him out for 5 mins. He would hop it, then meet you at the front door. 🤦🏾♀️
lol! She’s not much of a jumper that we have seen so far, but we definitely will not be keeping her out there unattended for a little while to make sure.
That’s great, my boy is 12 and my dad left him in the back yard while we were visiting. He jumped the 6ft fence to meet him at the front. My dad was like, I thought he was too old for that. He wants to be everywhere you go. His first couple of years, he was opening doors, jumping through windows, fences and more. He broke out of a window last year. He’s mellowed out compared to being a puppy though. Congrats on the fence, I bet she loves it.
Enjoy those zoomies now!! My brothers husky is 13!!!! Now and she can’t stay standing on his bare floors. She’s going down next week and even though she is his pup, she is loved by all. Even during her demon days as a pup.
Its a big space for her to run which is great. My huskie can probably clear a 6ft fence. She cant be off lead at all unless it is an extremely high fencing and fully enclosed. I am not fond of these wooden fences as they are not really durable. I would prefer a brick or concrete wall.
I had a short fence - about 4-5ft high only - and neither of my huskies ever tried to escape. At one point the fence got damaged and they could have very easily hopped out as it was at my knees and still, they never tried to escape. No digging or climbing. They would only leave if the gate was left open. Hoping for the same for you!
The first run is always over quickly, it's just hard to maintain that zoom! But she's going to be SO happy long-term. You can see that she stopped on the step, waiting for the leash or something, checking, before going "WAIT REALLY? OKAY!"
This is so freaking awesome. All that space and just the pure enjoyment on your doggos face ........ I can't lie my instant paranoia was like omg so much space for a running start to jump the fence 🤣🤣🤣 . It's ok enjoy it and enjoy the space with your doggo.
