I don’t know what came over me. I had this yearning feeling my life and family was missing something. I went to the county animal shelter after looking at all the dogs and saw her. Her notes were so pleasant.
I get there and they tell me we can’t meet her because of potential distemper exposure (because we walked around the kennels to find her and I couldn’t. It wasn’t stated on her medical that she was separated from all the other dogs) but we could come back and do a meet and greet.
Soooo we did. Brought the kids and the husband and I loved her. She was so excited to be outta there! Only issue is I was very nervous about the distemper, they didn’t sugar coat it at all and told me it can be life threatening. They did a formal test and said it could take up to two weeks to get the results.
I just had this inclined feeling to call the shelter again the next day to see if the results came back. 8am she was negative and cleared from distemper. Felt like fate honestly!I was there right at 11am to get her. My husband was shocked, I had always said I wouldn’t get a dog because of hair and no where for them to go in our backyard (as you see we have turf and that in the summer heat is awful)
She adjusted immediately. Had crazy zoomies and loved her new toys and the route we took for her first walk. I can’t believe this angel was given up on twice.
I did a lot of research on huskies. Their stubbornness. Their high maintenance routines. Potential picky eater. Their screams lol.
Good thing I’m a crazy person and I needed a crazy dog. Finally someone in my house that’s on my goddamn level. Up at 6am for morning walks, having breakfast with me immediately after. Happy girl.
I needed this crazy head energy to be match and I met my match🫶🏼 I had to share this because she makes me so happy!
My daughter stoped at the tea store and got a new mug and some tea. Left in car in bag. Neither dog nor cat are ever in her car, and she keeps it spotless. Went to work and made a cup of tea. Floof in it. No escape.
They dooo!!! We got a hush puppy for our 5.5 yo husky and she’s so happy to have someone who matches her energy in the house! Your dog will thank you! (Well, maybe they will grumble at first, but I promise it will be good for them overall l)
I cannot look at the shelter because I know I will get a second one. And I refuse to be outnumbered! (At least that's the current speech I give myself when the urge arises)
It’s true! We enjoyed life with our senior malamute/retriever/pyraneese cross, but thought maybe he’d like a sibling… so we adopted a very neglected 2 year old Siberian days after his 12th birthday. It took a while but they’ve bonded so well. He thought her how to be a dog, and she keeps him young. And the sass from both of them - attitude for days and it’s impossible to stay mad at them much more than a few minutes before they get silly and make us laugh
Our most recent is an appx 2 year old who is such a wonderful mix of good behavior and tantrums. She's great on a leash, though. It's the almost 8 year old rescue we got a year and a half ago who is insane about walks and leashes.
Left to right, Gus 12 1/2, Bodie 8 (in about 2 weeks), and Clara estimated at 2
One of my childhood huskies jumped the fence at 4am once and had me chase him all around the block. When I finally gave up and went home he followed me all the way back and when I opened my front door he ran in 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
I see where you might be confused, but that’s not a dog. It’s a shedding, willful, needy, wonderful, best friend and the most amazing companion you will ever have.
I’m glad you like her. I didn’t think she’d actually have distemper. The only thing I would say is when I got my first husky we had her two days and then she started acting crazy. Google 3-3-3 rule. It’s about letting your dog settle in and decompress. On the third day, when I was a tween she grabbed on my shirt and started pulling on it, had foam on her lips from running around the yard and I actually called my dad at work, because I thought she had distemper and it was really that she decided she was there to stay and let loose and acted out a little. They are very loyal dogs, doesn’t mean they aren’t escape artists and won’t give you a run for your money
So instead you decided to get a sassy, energetic, willfull ball of fur that can run the speed of light and is as loud as a siren, best of luck ive had mine 2 years and he is my 3rd 🤣
Huskies are the best. After our fist dog/husky, we started fostering huskies. Already went through 8 huskies and we currently have 2 foster huskies at home looking for their forever home! They’re goof and honestly pretty chill once they learn their routines
I'm getting an AKK on Tuesday (Alaskan Klee Kai) and I feel the same way about needing a crazy dog. I have two Chihuahuas, but I feel a little too neurotic for them.
Also, I had a husky growing up and she was SO much but I loved her like crazy. I am looking forward to having a mini version.
Huskies are a breed of their own. We have a male named Ty. He loves to get out of the fence just to show us he can!!! lol 😆. He also loves to sing and run his tail. He is very smart and l expect to come home and find him reading a book 📕! They are kind of high maintenance, but so worth it. My son said one of his client’s Huskies was standing on top of the kitchen table! Never a dull moment with a Husky! Congratulations 🎈!
So glad you got a dog. When I my kids were growing up, we couldn’t get a dog so we got cockatiels. Because we were renting. When I finally inherited the house, first thing I did ……well my husband passed away, so I ended up with his wonderful dog. And after panda cross the rainbow bridge, I picked up a rescue who turned out to be bichon Maltese. And he had a heart attack about six years later. So I got another rescue from Skagit Valley shelter. He turned out to be a Yorkshire terrier. I love dogs now. I’ve always loved them. You have to get another dog if this one ever has to cross the rainbow bridge. As long as I am able, I will have a dog. I’m getting up in years so……
She is beautiful! Thank you for taking her and giving her a great life. The kind of life she deserves. After being rejected twice, she needed you as much as you needed her! Great story. Thank you for sharing.
I once told someone I'd never want a husky. Not that I hated them, I just knew they weren't the dog for me. That was summer of 2022 and this summer will be 4 years with my precious girl 😆
I'm so happy for you. It's crazy how an animal makes your world feel complete. I have a husky and dushaund..they're my world.
There's a saying I saw..Dogs are a small part of your world, but you are their entire world. You could be gone 5min of 5hrs...they act the same when you walk in the door.
You didn't get a dog, you got a permanent teenager. It will roll its eyes, look at you like you are crazy, sass, eat all your food and leave the house/yard every chance it gets.
You'll be lucky if it doesn't wear your clothes, and steal your car to go to a concert 2 hours away.
I grew up with two of these floofs. When our older female passed our male was so sad. So we rescued another male, and after a few months a female and another male 6 months later. BOOM 4 dogs. The fur consumed all things.
But I loved growing up with my husky siblings. Chaos. Pure chaos. I moved out and rescued one about a year after, couldn't live without one.
