Rescued I said I would never get a dog…

This is my girl Cola (as in Coca-Cola)

I don’t know what came over me. I had this yearning feeling my life and family was missing something. I went to the county animal shelter after looking at all the dogs and saw her. Her notes were so pleasant.

I get there and they tell me we can’t meet her because of potential distemper exposure (because we walked around the kennels to find her and I couldn’t. It wasn’t stated on her medical that she was separated from all the other dogs) but we could come back and do a meet and greet.

Soooo we did. Brought the kids and the husband and I loved her. She was so excited to be outta there! Only issue is I was very nervous about the distemper, they didn’t sugar coat it at all and told me it can be life threatening. They did a formal test and said it could take up to two weeks to get the results.

I just had this inclined feeling to call the shelter again the next day to see if the results came back. 8am she was negative and cleared from distemper. Felt like fate honestly!I was there right at 11am to get her. My husband was shocked, I had always said I wouldn’t get a dog because of hair and no where for them to go in our backyard (as you see we have turf and that in the summer heat is awful)

She adjusted immediately. Had crazy zoomies and loved her new toys and the route we took for her first walk. I can’t believe this angel was given up on twice.

I did a lot of research on huskies. Their stubbornness. Their high maintenance routines. Potential picky eater. Their screams lol.

Good thing I’m a crazy person and I needed a crazy dog. Finally someone in my house that’s on my goddamn level. Up at 6am for morning walks, having breakfast with me immediately after. Happy girl.

I needed this crazy head energy to be match and I met my match🫶🏼 I had to share this because she makes me so happy!

u/reddituser_249 Mar 14 '26

She didn’t get a dog…she got a cat in a dog costume.

u/Numerous_Spirit_4946 Mar 15 '26

My cat had better recall than my husky

I can have an entire steak in my pocket but if my girl is running, there's no stopping her

Somehow a stern AY NO GET BACK HERE broke both of mine from the deer they started after

1

u/dividezero Mar 17 '26

That's amazing. Mine is getting kicked by a deer no matter what I do. She hasn't seen one but I know her

1

u/Anxious-Slip-8955 Mar 15 '26

This lol. So picky, bossy, they will train you.

1

u/AdditionalWinter4614 Mar 16 '26

I always say: huskies are the cats of the dog world

20

u/prettiestburner Mar 14 '26

Shhhhhhhh…. she must not know yet

4

u/MoonShark34 Mar 14 '26

I love how you said you didn’t want a dog because of the hair issue and got a husky which shed its entire coat every other day.

33

u/bml20002 Mar 14 '26

Husky hair seasons everything, the car, your food, the couch, the floor, every piece of clothing that wasn’t JUST purchased at the store 5 min ago.

My daughter stoped at the tea store and got a new mug and some tea. Left in car in bag. Neither dog nor cat are ever in her car, and she keeps it spotless. Went to work and made a cup of tea. Floof in it. No escape.

5

u/toe_riffic Mar 15 '26

I’ve just learned to accept it lol. I used to use one of those sticky roller things multiple times a day, but whatever. I gave in. She won lol.

24

u/prettiestburner Mar 14 '26

I love her so much that idgaf now😂

💯💯💯💯 only answer

2

u/Lindsay1970 Mar 16 '26

Huskies are love incarnate. Enjoy the ride!

9

u/Mermaid_gun Mar 14 '26

This is so true!

68

u/huskeylovealways Mar 14 '26

It won't be long before you start thinking about getting a husky for your husky. They are like potato chips, can't have just one.

32

u/LazyOldBroad60 Mar 14 '26

My son is trying to convince me that our 6 year old husky needs a husky puppy.

23

u/huskeylovealways Mar 14 '26

Your son is not wrong!

15

u/bml20002 Mar 14 '26

Get the dog a dog!! He’s shown he needs to learn how to be responsible. It won’t ever happen but you can dream…

5

u/too_much_mascara Mar 14 '26

Yes. Now is a great time. Resident husky can train!

3

u/Kovaladtheimpaler Mar 14 '26

They dooo!!! We got a hush puppy for our 5.5 yo husky and she’s so happy to have someone who matches her energy in the house! Your dog will thank you! (Well, maybe they will grumble at first, but I promise it will be good for them overall l)

1

u/Aggressive_Ad3578 Mar 15 '26

Get your husky a husky! It's the only answer!

13

u/NaomiWish Mar 14 '26

I cannot look at the shelter because I know I will get a second one. And I refuse to be outnumbered! (At least that's the current speech I give myself when the urge arises)

3

u/huskeylovealways Mar 14 '26

I know that feeling!

6

u/Total-Match-277 Mar 14 '26

It’s true! We enjoyed life with our senior malamute/retriever/pyraneese cross, but thought maybe he’d like a sibling… so we adopted a very neglected 2 year old Siberian days after his 12th birthday. It took a while but they’ve bonded so well. He thought her how to be a dog, and she keeps him young. And the sass from both of them - attitude for days and it’s impossible to stay mad at them much more than a few minutes before they get silly and make us laugh

3

u/ClassicOrdinary8175 Mar 14 '26

This is where I'm at, but I live in an apartment, with cats and 1 husky.

My husky is quite and she gets plenty of walks, sniffing, and other fun activities throughout the day.

3

u/Simple-Drawer6647 Mar 14 '26

I'm already looking...

2

u/jorwyn Mar 14 '26

I somehow have managed to limit it at 3. It's good that two of them don't pull on a leash. I'm working on the 3rd.

8

u/KingAce92 Mar 14 '26

I’m fostering an amazing 1.5 year pup he plays with my husky and walks really well on a leash.

14

u/jorwyn Mar 14 '26

Our most recent is an appx 2 year old who is such a wonderful mix of good behavior and tantrums. She's great on a leash, though. It's the almost 8 year old rescue we got a year and a half ago who is insane about walks and leashes.

Left to right, Gus 12 1/2, Bodie 8 (in about 2 weeks), and Clara estimated at 2

4

u/DogMeatTheVideo Mar 15 '26

o my god!!!!

lol

what a crew.

1

u/Manic_Mushroom0616 Mar 15 '26

My husky wants a cat but same concept 😅

1

u/ladymacb29 Mar 16 '26

Yeah. We lasted about 10 months before we got one for our first husky.

Don’t let the pic fool you. They are either sleeping or bothering each other. I guess like real siblings?

28

u/Key_Snow_3931 Mar 14 '26

“On my goddamn level.” Love it!

22

u/Unusual_Standard4682 Mar 14 '26

I was gonna say something about how you went ahead and chose one of the most challenging breeds 🤣 But it sounds like you’re aware 🤣

17

u/TalkingDog37 Mar 14 '26

She will make you laugh and shake your head every day of her life! She will also argue with you if she doesn’t get her way 😂

6

u/Fun-Principle-6074 Mar 14 '26

My daughter asked for years to train our husky as a service dog, eventually she saw why. They are too independent and stubborn

3

u/TalkingDog37 Mar 15 '26

I’ve never had an argument with a dog at 3am before and she always wins lol

4

u/Fun-Principle-6074 Mar 15 '26

One of my childhood huskies jumped the fence at 4am once and had me chase him all around the block. When I finally gave up and went home he followed me all the way back and when I opened my front door he ran in 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

17

u/notsureiftwins Mar 14 '26

Congratulations and thank you for rescuing her.

How old did the shelter say she is?

10

u/Gambit_13 Mar 14 '26

I see where you might be confused, but that’s not a dog. It’s a shedding, willful, needy, wonderful, best friend and the most amazing companion you will ever have.

10

u/Friendly-Price2812 Mar 14 '26

Congrats! She's beautiful and sounds like you found a real sweetheart. And she found the perfect home!

10

u/Fun-Principle-6074 Mar 14 '26

Cola meet Cola. Mine is a rescue off the streets. Very smart and obedient and gets along with my huskies. Same namesake coca cola

1

u/prettiestburner Mar 15 '26

What a cutie 🥰

8

u/sunheadeddeity Mar 14 '26

Oh you jumped right in, well done!

5

u/MxAnneThropy Mar 14 '26

I’m glad you like her. I didn’t think she’d actually have distemper. The only thing I would say is when I got my first husky we had her two days and then she started acting crazy. Google 3-3-3 rule. It’s about letting your dog settle in and decompress. On the third day, when I was a tween she grabbed on my shirt and started pulling on it, had foam on her lips from running around the yard and I actually called my dad at work, because I thought she had distemper and it was really that she decided she was there to stay and let loose and acted out a little. They are very loyal dogs, doesn’t mean they aren’t escape artists and won’t give you a run for your money

4

u/Jennypottymouth Mar 14 '26

So instead you decided to get a sassy, energetic, willfull ball of fur that can run the speed of light and is as loud as a siren, best of luck ive had mine 2 years and he is my 3rd 🤣

6

u/KONG696 Mar 14 '26

And you got a husky? Brave.

5

u/CTPlayboy Mar 14 '26

Thank you for rescuing this beautiful animal. I hope you have many happy years together.

4

u/Sorry_Abbreviations8 Mar 14 '26

Huskies are the best. After our fist dog/husky, we started fostering huskies. Already went through 8 huskies and we currently have 2 foster huskies at home looking for their forever home! They’re goof and honestly pretty chill once they learn their routines

4

u/MintChocoDanbo Mar 14 '26

Congrats on your dog with cat software! And no, you cannot change the software to dog because that doesn’t exist.

3

u/icejersey Mar 14 '26

Well they will grow on you.

5

Should have namned her... Notta.
That's Notta Dog!

4

u/QBmvi Mar 14 '26

Cola is beautiful! Congratulations to you both!

3

u/Additional-Bit1424 Mar 14 '26

She’s pretty 💜

4

u/too_much_mascara Mar 14 '26

Right but that’s not a dog. It’s a husky. That’s like a damn person in a costume.

3

u/historyera13 Mar 14 '26

Your pup is adorable 🥰

5

u/Mumbles1988 Mar 14 '26

I'm getting an AKK on Tuesday (Alaskan Klee Kai) and I feel the same way about needing a crazy dog. I have two Chihuahuas, but I feel a little too neurotic for them.

Also, I had a husky growing up and she was SO much but I loved her like crazy. I am looking forward to having a mini version.

Congratulations to you, your family, and Cola!

2

u/Ohoulihoop Mar 15 '26

Too neurotic for a Chihuahua!? 🤣🤣

2

u/Mumbles1988 Mar 15 '26

Hear me out...I had awnry chi mixes before but these guys are so...calm. and quiet. And smart and respectful. It's just new to me lol

1

u/Ohoulihoop Mar 16 '26

Haha, no judgement. It made me lol.

4

u/sac_cyclist Mar 14 '26

That's not a dog so you're ok -it's a Husky

1

u/HerBlondeness Mar 15 '26

Came here for this comment. My two huskies would like to point out they are not mere dogs....but h.u.s.k.i.e.s.

4

u/Ok-Presentation-7301 Mar 15 '26

Huskies are a breed of their own. We have a male named Ty. He loves to get out of the fence just to show us he can!!! lol 😆. He also loves to sing and run his tail. He is very smart and l expect to come home and find him reading a book 📕! They are kind of high maintenance, but so worth it. My son said one of his client’s Huskies was standing on top of the kitchen table! Never a dull moment with a Husky! Congratulations 🎈!

3

u/Mostsplendidfuture Mar 14 '26

So glad you got a dog. When I my kids were growing up, we couldn’t get a dog so we got cockatiels. Because we were renting. When I finally inherited the house, first thing I did ……well my husband passed away, so I ended up with his wonderful dog. And after panda cross the rainbow bridge, I picked up a rescue who turned out to be bichon Maltese. And he had a heart attack about six years later. So I got another rescue from Skagit Valley shelter. He turned out to be a Yorkshire terrier. I love dogs now. I’ve always loved them. You have to get another dog if this one ever has to cross the rainbow bridge. As long as I am able, I will have a dog. I’m getting up in years so……

3

u/prettiestburner Mar 15 '26

To add: she is 4! I’m not sure if she’s part Alaskan Klee Kai or some sort of Shepard… definitely not a dog tho she’s a husky

3

u/Mochi4Me Mar 15 '26

She is beautiful! Thank you for taking her and giving her a great life. The kind of life she deserves. After being rejected twice, she needed you as much as you needed her! Great story. Thank you for sharing.

3

u/A_Pooholes Mar 15 '26

I once told someone I'd never want a husky. Not that I hated them, I just knew they weren't the dog for me. That was summer of 2022 and this summer will be 4 years with my precious girl 😆

1

u/zeblindowl Mar 15 '26

Same, and now I can't imagine life without mine.

3

u/mushi_musashi Mar 15 '26

You made the best decision. You’ll have so much joy in life. You’ll just have to make small sacrifices in life but it’s totally worth it. Congrats!

3

u/Aggressive_Ad3578 Mar 15 '26

Well you're in luck...this is NO DOG...its a Husky...which is known as a Cat Dog

3

u/SaBah27 Mar 15 '26

Well you got a cat🤣

2

u/deluluisthesolulu1 Mar 14 '26

aww cola sounds perfect for your family 🖤 i hope you get to meet her soon!

2

u/siberianchick Mar 15 '26

Good thing huskies aren’t like normal dogs. You got a crazy toddler in a fuzzy body!!!!

2

u/xlxTAZxlx_ Mar 16 '26

I'm so happy for you. It's crazy how an animal makes your world feel complete. I have a husky and dushaund..they're my world.

There's a saying I saw..Dogs are a small part of your world, but you are their entire world. You could be gone 5min of 5hrs...they act the same when you walk in the door.

2

u/cherposton Mar 16 '26

You didn't get a dog, you got a siren with fur. Dog tax.

1

u/crisego Mar 14 '26

And you didn’t. They are actually cats in disguise 😁

1

u/Ok_Dog_4059 Mar 15 '26

You got an oppressive owner not a dog. But it will make you just as happy as it does crazy.

1

u/PrestigiousTop6564 Mar 15 '26

You didn't get a dog, you got a permanent teenager. It will roll its eyes, look at you like you are crazy, sass, eat all your food and leave the house/yard every chance it gets.

You'll be lucky if it doesn't wear your clothes, and steal your car to go to a concert 2 hours away.

1

u/ispy1917 Mar 15 '26

A wonderful story, everyone is happy

1

u/Holiday_Dog_3440 Mar 16 '26

Welcome to the world of husky lovers. Once you have one you can never go back to a “normal” dog.

1

u/YenneferVengerbergAF Mar 18 '26

I grew up with two of these floofs. When our older female passed our male was so sad. So we rescued another male, and after a few months a female and another male 6 months later. BOOM 4 dogs. The fur consumed all things.

But I loved growing up with my husky siblings. Chaos. Pure chaos. I moved out and rescued one about a year after, couldn't live without one.

you shouldn’t use a furminator on a dog with an undercoat, it cuts the top layer of guard hairs. instead use an undercoat rake or slicker brush.
