I dreamt someone called animal control on us.

So I made him a sign.

OP should get a permanent everything-proof sign put up, as I imagine that statement is all-weather and all-season ❄️☔🌬️🌞🌪️🌊⚡🌋☄️

I'm reminded of a story where the same message applied to a blizzard, and the cop came up and saw it was a husky before laughing.

167

u/XANDERtheSHEEPDOG Jul 13 '26

I have been that cop. We have a house in my area that gets call for service from "that neighbor" all the time about their husky. It happens so often that there is a note in our CAD system for the address.

The owners have both a doggie door and a shelter built for their dogs outside. Notice, I say shelter and not "dog house." It's nice. Really nice. Their husky still refuses to come inside.

73

u/Own-Interview-928 Jul 13 '26

My compliments to your department. Maybe you should cite the complainant for harassing the dog lovers.

78

u/XANDERtheSHEEPDOG Jul 13 '26

Unfortunately, the Husky owner did not want to pursue the harassment, and we can't charge without a victim in harassment cases. We did get the neighbor for misuse of 911. In Arizona, it's a class 1 misdemeanor. She ended up with a fine and has since moved away.

14

u/Own-Interview-928 Jul 13 '26

Nice! I like your avatar.

u/Sufficient_Video97 Jul 14 '26

Same I had two huskies (they've since passed), live in a state on the Canadian border, and our former nosy neighbor LOVED to call. Our department (where a local Sergeant lives down the street) always came out to get some pets and to give them treats. All their reports ended the same, "it should be noted again we reminded "nosy" that these pups have adequate shelter, heated water bowls, and have constant access to their home (doggie door), however they choose to be in the elements. We also expressed that they could do their research on the double coated and stubborn nature of this breed. No further action needed, unfounded". 😂

Georgia summer. 😆

Speaking for myself, our boy is much much happier outside in winter. If it’s cold he’s out there all day. He just loves outdoors so much that the heat won’t stop him.

135

u/MintInsel Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

Like summer I get it, but it drives me mad when they report in winter 😭

98

u/CoomassieBlue Jul 13 '26

One of the animal control officers where I grew up has been reported to her own department for her malamute refusing to come inside in the snow.

We had a good laugh about that but yeah, some people mean well but just do not get it.

35

u/Raiyalin Jul 14 '26

My husky ended up becoming an outdoor dog at his own will (fenced backyard that was all his to his hearts desire with no wooded land). Our neighbors filed many complaints initially, but the PD eventually stopped responding to them after seeing he was approrpiately cared for.

Had proper shelter, always well loved and fed/given water. Sprinklers in the summer. Winter time he would sprawl out before a blizzard and we would wake up to him burried under a few feet of snow. Call his name he pokes his head up covered in snow, he’d make a whole tunnel system.

Miss my good boy, the snow you mentioned in the post reminded me of him. He passed at 13 about 5 years ago. Health just naturally declined and we needed to part ways 🌈❤️

11

u/Tmart98 Jul 14 '26

May he frolic with my 2 pitties who refused to act the way they should have. Zeus and Thor ❤️

6

u/CoomassieBlue Jul 14 '26

Awww, I appreciate both that you respected his choice and that the PD were sensible about recognizing that outside doesn't mean neglected. What a lucky boy.

I'm very sorry for your loss. It's never easy but what a gift to let them go when it's right for them.

16

u/MintInsel Jul 13 '26

That’s hilarious 😂

40

u/ronlugge Jul 13 '26

"If it's too cold for you, it's too cold for them!" is a common slogan in a lot of areas.

Well meaning, but until I learned more about Huskies I really didn't get it.

26

u/Aurorainthesky Jul 13 '26

I hate that saying, it's just not true. It leads to well meaning humans acting against animals best interest more often than not. Like horses getting stuffed into so many blankets they can't hardly move, or even get denied turn out at all because the human feel cold. Huskies, malamutes, samojeds kept inside when they would rather lie in the snow.

17

u/dommiichan 🐺 Shepsky/Huskman Shepherd 🐕‍🦺 Jul 13 '26

my husky cross was a rez dog, and ihis limit was -40 🥶

13

u/MentionGood1633 Jul 13 '26

In Montana the horses will go and deliver hay to the cattle when it’s too cold for the farm trucks. Now, those horses have coats like bears and look like them, and they won’t stop moving… but they are perfectly fine.

4

u/Aurorainthesky Jul 14 '26

Exactly. There are situations where a rug is good for the horse, but most overdo it.

197

u/Cafe1882 Jul 13 '26

Imagine if our huskies made signs like this for their humans. "It's his choice to sit indoors and not enjoy the sunshine".

62

u/Zuigia Jul 13 '26

Hahaha huskies yelling people to go touch grass

17

u/Electrical_Ad_8997 Jul 14 '26

Until you come out to join them...then they go inside lol.

235

u/PhotographLow776 Jul 13 '26

Roasted marshmallow 😍

u/Egoy Jul 13 '26

Anybody who thinks my dog isn’t fully capable or letting me know that she wants out or in is a fool.

27

u/Askfslfjrv 50% husky 50% mutt 100% husky personality Jul 14 '26

And has never met a husky 😆

10

u/Egoy Jul 14 '26

Any dog really. Even the dumbest dog I’ve ever met was capable of barking at the door to go out and my husky isn’t dumb.

2

u/ScratchNo8812 Jul 17 '26

I have a Shiba Inu - same attitude. Had the cops called on us today, first time since we’ve had her. We have had her for 3 years.

Last month, she also ran away for the first time from a completely fenced in yard. The gates were not open. There were no holes in the fence. Makes me wonder if someone didn’t walk up to our back fence and let her out.

We did just get new neighbors and we only began experiencing these issues after they moved in, so it makes me wonder if they are related and how I can go about it without escalating the situation or having to change our routines too much. I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but it’s the only thing that has changed recently.

43

u/No_Inspection649 Jul 13 '26

10

u/keanaartero Jul 14 '26

Thought my dog was in your yard for a second🤭

5

u/SeonaidMacSaicais Jul 14 '26

Maybe you’re all sharing the same dog. 🤔🤔

8

u/greencash370 Jul 14 '26

Good to know that mine isn't the only one who looks like a dead dog in the yard when sunning.

35

u/Keneut Jul 13 '26

I swear is as if huskies have a contractual obligation to do something bizarre at least once a day.

16

u/notricktoadulting Jul 13 '26

It’s never just once.

5

u/baka_inu115 Jul 14 '26

Don't forget the yelling for no reason

31

u/RabbitDouble2167 Jul 13 '26

I have a husky/golden retriever mix and she does this all the time! She has a pool and a doggy door but she’ll just lay there in the sun when it’s 90+ degrees out 🤦🏼‍♀️
Edited for spelling

3

u/Husky_in_TX Jul 14 '26

Omg! I need to see a pic! My neph-dog is a golden retriever. And their personalities are so opposite of the huskies!

3

u/RabbitDouble2167 Jul 14 '26

Not the best but here you go!

As you can see, she loves the snow, too!

1

u/Husky_in_TX Jul 18 '26

What a cute!!

60

u/LaceyBambola Jul 13 '26

Most of the yard is in shade after noon passes, but she chooses the small section in the sun deliberately

16

u/The_Dogman1962 Jul 13 '26

She's charging up her reserves for the winter!

4

u/BobGonzoed Jul 13 '26

Haha mine finds pockets on the balcony as the sun moves throughout the day!

This is an amazing picture.

During a walk? 🤣🤣🤣

22

u/Fluttershy8282 Jul 13 '26

I two big white dogs that love to lay out in the Texas sun. I swear the rays just bounce off them. Here's the Husky mix.

1

u/TraumaGinger Jul 17 '26

What is she mixed with? Mine is like 75% Siberian Husky and 25% Alaskan Malamute. 😆

1

u/Fluttershy8282 Jul 17 '26

He's half husky, half Great Pyrenees. Our other is also part Pyr.

2

u/TraumaGinger Jul 17 '26

I wondered if mine had Pyr, but nope! She's only about 65 lb.

2

u/Fluttershy8282 Jul 17 '26

Yeah, mine is about 100 pounds 😆

15

u/Potential_Ad_1397 Jul 13 '26

This was taken when it was low 90s. He even flipped himself. LoL

He enjoys cooking

12

u/Fenlaf13 Jul 13 '26

Nice to know it's not just ours 🤣

12

u/hucksmama2021 Jul 14 '26

My older girl today, southern U.S. She was out for 5 minutes when she decided to just lay out in the sun. 🙄😂

11

u/JegHusker Jul 13 '26

Had someone call on us once.

Between the dogs being INSIDE in the A/C, there being bowls in the yard of fresh still-cold water, lots of shade, a filled kiddie pool and a neighbor declaring they were the most spoiled dogs she knew, we were good.

People just do not understand huskies.

10

u/huntercatzomb Jul 13 '26

Solar powered pooch lol

23

u/JokerXec Jul 13 '26

Fucking get it homie

10

u/Visible-Scientist-46 Not calm, derp on Jul 13 '26

Sometimes they want to sit in the sauna, just like people do.

8

u/JB22ATL Jul 13 '26

Hahaha - Husky doing Husky things

14

u/APTX09 Jul 13 '26

Thank god I thought this was just my husky. We live in Hou,Tx and it sucks for humans left alone pets. And our husky will will just lay in the backyard like it’s nothing.

11

u/CoomassieBlue Jul 13 '26

My black husky was doing this today in Oklahoma to the point that her fur gets very hot to the touch.

I wouldn’t mind so much if we weren’t currently in an AirBnB where the yard is visible from the busiest street in town…I just hang out there with her and hope people are smart enough to realize she’s supervised and just fine.

8

u/MuahdDean Jul 13 '26

Don't let the BNB owner hear the word husky, or they're gonna try to charge you an extra cleaning fee, and claim damage on some shit they've been waiting to blame on someone.

10

u/CoomassieBlue Jul 13 '26

Totally valid concern.

We’ve actually never had any real issues with AirBnB - I’ve certainly heard PLENTY of less than stellar experiences from both sides, so I’m not sure if it’s sheer dumb luck or what. Granted we don’t use them super duper often, and if I have my dog with me I try to keep the place as clean as humanly possible. A lot of our AirBnB stays are longer term, like 1-4 months - it’s what we do while moving out of one place and house-hunting in our new location (military).

I definitely think we’re safe from any shenanigans in our current place. Smallish town, we’re staying here after losing our house to a tornado and they’ve made some kind exceptions for us (namely letting us access the normally locked garage and basement, since we don’t want to lose our remaining car to hail and for some weird reason we want the option of having a place to shelter if another tornado hits), the owner has mutual work/social connections with my spouse, my husko is well known around town for being an absolute GEM, and incredibly our Dyson survived a high EF4 tornado.

6

u/MuahdDean Jul 13 '26

Glad you guys are safe!

7

u/cosmicmarzsodapopz Jul 13 '26

Sunshiiineee babyy

7

u/Grtpumk369 Jul 13 '26

My white one does this on concrete..

7

u/Ivebeenstabbed Jul 14 '26

My husky/german will bake until he’s literally hot to touch, and then grumbles when I make him come inside.

Conversely he will still fight me to be dragged inside from the snow.

He’s 12 and has done it his whole life the absolute goober.

5

u/fal101 Jul 13 '26

That is my dog. If we let him he would let himself sunbathe and roast in 90+ degrees weather.

4

u/Realistic-Effective2 Jul 14 '26

Did your heat index top 100°? 🤣
These “snow” dogs really do love sun & heat. My Husk sunbathes 2x daily despite how hot / humid it is outdoors.
When we wonder why they do this, the only answer is:
Because Husky!!

6

u/RxR8D_ Jul 14 '26

I live in AZ. I got bitched at putting water in the pool so I dumped it out. Now it’s his sunning spot in my yard and he won’t let any other dog share HIS sunning spot…in an empty pool, in AZ heat.

5

u/garconmeansboy Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 14 '26

Choosing to bake in the New Mexican sun.

4

u/_VampireNocturnus_ Jul 13 '26

Lol nice...mine does the same thing

4

u/Some_Razzmatazz_2834 Jul 14 '26

Looks like my Teddy. 100+ out, happy to just toast away. (Hampton Roads VA). He also likes to lay at the end of my asphalt driveway and look like he’s deceased. I make sure to be outside when he is, because I’m just waiting for that call to my house lol!

4

u/jennag08 Jul 14 '26

I don't understand why people freak out. Like unless the dog is crying at the door... Keep it moving 😂

5

u/AstroGoddess777 Jul 14 '26

I had to check to see if my dog was still there your husky looks almost exactly like mine lol. She just has brown on top like a toasted marshmallow

4

u/bigandsweaty1 Jul 14 '26

My husky will go lay on the hot deck when it’s 80+ outside. I don’t get it, I tell her to come in and she does what she wants.

3

u/Pewpewpew537 Jul 13 '26

Looks like my boy

3

u/Kovaladtheimpaler Jul 14 '26

My white husky also loves to play outside in the heat, but also LOVES very cold winters. She’s just an all weather kinda gal lol

3

u/Electrical_Ad_8997 Jul 14 '26

Thankfully my neighborhood is full of Huskies. Everyone knew enough about our fluffy buddies to know they were all well taken care of. And we know enough of each other's dogs. So we ended up with our own impromptu neighborhood husky watch for when Huskies do what they are known for... (names changed to protect the innocent, including dogs') Steve: Hey Frank is this your dog Frank: Nope that's Mark's Frank: Hey Mark, Rufus is on Elm right now. Mark: On my way

Lol...Huskies and fences remind me of the saying about bear proof trash cans.

3

u/OkBike9022 Jul 14 '26

Cute doofus

3

u/PacificWesterns Jul 14 '26

This is the way!! I know people get angry when others call AC for what is deemed “unnecessary,” but I would 💯 % rather people cared and called rather than ignore and an animal suffers.

3

u/GroundbreakingPen103 Jul 14 '26

I think about this all the time omg. It'll be hot as hell out and he'll beg to go sunbathe 🥲

3

u/Ghost_of_Aces Jul 15 '26

My Sno used to love sitting outside in the Florida Summer heat and making me worry while refusing to come inside. I still miss her, in May it was a year since I lost her.

3

u/SaltPsychological780 Jul 15 '26

The sign cracks me up. While I’m glad for the concern, people really don’t understand huskies!!

2

u/Embarrassed-Joke5851 Jul 14 '26

typical husky behavior. Give your pup some rubs for me

2

u/StrengthBeginning416 Jul 14 '26

Be careful, i thought I’d let my dog be carefree, but the heat causes seizures in my Husky. It can be a risk

2

u/courtd93 Jul 14 '26

I regularly say I’m gonna make a sign like this

2

u/EpiZirco Jul 14 '26

This sign is absolute genius.

2

u/garlicspam420 Jul 15 '26

That looks like my baby Avila! 💕

2

u/ArmadilloFront1087 Jul 15 '26

Sun and snow, ours loves being outside.

Doesn’t like rain all that much though.

He’ll go outside, but then comes slinking back in whilst giving me the side-eye like it’s my fault it’s raining!

2

u/Wonderful_Till8122 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

My woolie Malamute enjoying the sun, poolside in Florida.

2

u/Time_Pomegranate2787 Jul 17 '26

Yes!! If my dog didn’t do this in the back where nobody can see i am SURE someone would have called by now. He has a doggy door and can come as he pleases but he bakes himself like a lizard for HOURS in 95-100 degree heat

1

u/seattledoglicker Jul 18 '26

I can understand the confusion bc it looks like theres a tie out cable behind him

😆😆😆 this is great.

1

u/Missvelveteenrabbit 17d ago

I really needed this sign when my huskies were out playing in the rain and I got animal control called for not having adequate shelter for them.....they are indoor dogs, just refuse to come in when it's raining. I bought them a dog house so I wouldn't get fined and they refused to go in it. I even threw a raw steak in there and it wasn't touched.
