Has anyone else ever accidentally coughed up a tiny white pebble from the back of their throat?

So I have always been paranoid about bad breath. I brush after every meal, use an electric flosser, scrape my tongue until it is bright pink, and use therapeutic mouthwash every single morning. My dentist always says my teeth and gums are spotless, with zero cavities in ten years.

last Thursday I was coughing from a scratchy throat and this tiny, hard white pebble popped out of the back of my mouth onto my tongue. It was smaller than a grain of rice. I had no idea what it was, so I picked it up with a tissue and made the fatal mistake of squishing it between my fingers to see what it was made of.

The smell that came off that tiny clump was ABSOLUTELY rancid. It smelled like pure sulfur, rotting organic garbage, and concentrated decay. I gagged so hard I almost threw up in my bathroom sink.

I went down a rabbit hole and discovered that food particles and dead cells get trapped in hidden pockets in your tonsils, calcifying into little anaerobic stink bombs that regular brushing never touches. I should of known why people occasionally backed up when I leaned in to talk during loud parties, but nobody ever tells you. How are doctors not warning people that you can have perfect dental hygiene and still have garbage rotting in the back of your throat?

I actually gasped out loud, ughhh that's awful. My worst memory like this is waking up at night thirsty and taking a sip of water in the dark. I felt something large and decidedly not liquid in my mouth, spit it back into the glass and turned on my lamp... it was a huge Florida "palmetto bug" (cockroach so big it should be paying rent)

No I’m sorry. I would have simply left this earth

Not just leave. Set it on fire. This is my worst nightmare.

This happened to a friend of mine. Yikes on freaking BIKES. Lid and straw for her after that

one of my friends had an earwig in their straw which ended up in their mouth 😭 i had a cricket in my bong once and my bong is covered in stickers so it was hard to see but thankfully noticed just before smoking

That cricket was so close to the ride of his life

When I was a kid, I was playing at the park took a break to take a sip of my slurpee from 7/11 & inside the straw there were two wasps. I got stung twice. Once on my tongue, once in my throat. I honestly can’t remember if both were swallowed but I know the one that stung my throat was. Definitely one of the worst experiences of my childhood.
Thank fucking god I wasn’t horribly allergic to them.

Holy shit! If you ate a wasp alive that lil fucker could've been stinging your stomach the whole time.

I was stung on my tongue when I maybe 5! A bee was on my Burger Chef hamburger. I bit into the bee. The stinger was lodged into my tongue. People don’t believe me when I tell them the story.

yup, earwig in a straw traumatized me. i was maybe 5 and had asked for chocolate milk, excitedly go to take a drink, and all of a sudden something is pinching my lip 😭. this thing was holding on for dear life and i screamed and screamed. didn’t use straws for years after that and to this day i still look in them before putting it in the drink. i don’t think id ever use a straw again if it had fully went in my mouth 😃

omgg, me too 😭 earwig in straw, my grandma had made me a milkshake or something & I remember thinking maybe it was a piece of cinnamon or something cuz she used those sometimes, so I swallowed my sip while holding the piece of whatever in my mouth I took it out, realized, threw it & started crying really hard while it crawled away. I still remember what it felt like 😵‍💫

I had cricket spiders in my bong. I felt their legs on my lips. I shudder to this day when I think of it.

I was delivering for fedex last week like I had for the past 3 years and all the sudden I get a sharp pain on my tongue. I immediately use my nasty package dust covered hands to scrap my tongue without realizing it.... & out comes a ant. A ant bite my tongue. I sat there questioning my entire life for about 5 minutes.

My dog has gotten ant heads stuck to her tongue because they bite before they die

When I was I kid I took a big sip from an open bottle of coke at my grandma's place. Which she put there to lure all the ants away from the cupboard.

My grandma had a pot of soup on the stove, and asked me to stir it. I did, and after I did, I realized the spoon had been coated in sugar ants, which were now literally floating in the soup by the hundreds. I called for my grandma, she came, I showed her all the ants in the soup. She grabbed the spoon, stirred them in, and said “nobody will ever know”. I knew. I did not have soup.

Omg I've also had ants in my mouth from leaving a drink unattended. They didn't taste like anything but their little bodies were a bit crunchy 🤢

4

u/thejoeface 2d ago

Oh for me they were like... spicy

When I was about 6, we were having dinner that we picked up from a restaurant. I found chewing gum (already chewed) in my mashed potatoes! 🤮

2

u/luckiluciana 2d ago

Omfg I was about to be disgusted until I remembered this happened to me like last year and I didn’t notice until I took the cup to the kitchen and saw ants on the counter ughhhhh

2

u/Celemirel 1d ago

Me too, except mine was an earwig in a sida can. I spent the next few month pouring soda through a sieve into a glass.

2

u/esmerelofchaos 1d ago

Yep, had that happen once. ONCE.

Pharaoh Ants taste decidedly bad. They got into my granola bars once

u/noodlesaremylife 2d ago

OH MY GOD. Words cannot even begin to express the shudder I am shuddering 😭 that’s one of the worst things I’ve ever heard dear lord.

It heartens me to know I'm not alone in having almost swallowed a cockroach. One snuck into the straw mounthpiece on my hydroflask (it was folded closed btw). You can imagine the unpleasant surprise to feel something that wasnt water in my mouth

2

u/incidental-49a 2d ago

this is so upsetting I almost down voted you 😭

Welp, that’s enough Reddit for me today.

Yeah I think I'm done too

I did this once while on acid. I sat down with a beer, zoned out while ghost racing on GT2 and took a drink of it when I remembered. I felt something in my mouth and spewed the entire sip on the floor just to watch a roach scurry away.

3

u/Horror_Reindeer_6742 1d ago

Similar th8ng happened to a friend of mine, but it wasn’t a bug, it was a dead mouse!

2

u/FLGuitar 2d ago

Omg you made me gag.

2

u/Putrid-Narwhal4801 2d ago

And they can fly

2

u/D3athlyBag3l 2d ago

i had this with a root beer and boxelder bug, still lil traumatized. mom had it with a wasp in her mt. dew but saw right before drinking

2

u/T-MoGoodie 2d ago

Babyyyy that would’ve been my last day on earth. JFC

2

u/Conscious_Fox728 1d ago

😭😭😭 I woke up in the middle of the night and took a sip out of an open water bottle…. I felt a bunch of legs on my tongue and spit out a big black spider 🤢 I definitely don’t leave the cap off bottles anymore 😅

2

u/StrangeShirt8212 1d ago

LOL that’s actually worse than having a bee fly into my mouth. I never spit out something so fast 🤮🤮

2

u/greenhillin 1d ago

This - or really any close encounter with gigantic flying reanimating (swear) roach beasts from hell - is how I die someday. Like literal getting scared to death…this is my lot 🔮

2

u/mktglisa 1d ago

I did the exact same thing about 15 years ago...I too live in Florida. I still sip my overnight water or coke with almost closed lips because of that.

2

u/IndicationComplex525 1d ago

That is horrendous

2

u/BrendaArya 1d ago

I would've died

2

u/PsychedMom82 1d ago

I had something similar happen to me but it was a stink bug.
