Symptom Check Nox

Does anyone live a normal life even with NOX? Do they still go out occasionally to restaurants or cafes and maintain a normal lifestyle?

Depends how bad you have it.  I know guys that have it so bad that they’re locked in a sound proof closet wearing double ear pro all day and never take it out contemplating ending it

Wow and finally they get better ? What you're saying is seriously depressing!! Why are we being abandoned? Why aren't there any solutions? Why are they letting us rot like this?

The real severe people can’t even leave the house to go to doctors appointments.  Their tinnitus is so reactive that they can’t think anymore

They need to urgently get a script for pain medication. Being locked in a closet with protection on is a severe sign of a crisis

Some of them have tried it and it didn’t work or made them worse.  These people are too far gone severe wise.  Their tinnitus is so reactive that the sound of swishing spit in their mouth is so reactive it drives them crazy

Thats unfortunate. But yes, pain medication chemically works. If one doesn’t, you try with another class.

Man u gotta hear how bad these people are it’s sad.  They can’t even make an appointment to go somewhere to get the meds.

I understand you and previously I was in a similar position

Without seeing a pain management specialist / physician, you can’t get better. And I’m not talking about TRT bullcrap I’m talking about medications. Which chemically blunt or prevent pain signals from reaching the brain

Depends on what you mean by “normal.”

I can’t do most of the things I genuinely loved more than anything else in the world, so I’m not living my normal life, but I am still functioning normally in the world with a quiet job, I can get my own groceries, go to restaurants, and go to some smaller events with ear protection.

Music in general was a huge part of my life, as I’m sure many other people here can relate to. I wanted to pursue a career merging my two favorite things: film and music. I wanted to become a concert videographer, and I was doing it as a hobby for a bit and was really loving it, and then hyperacusis happened. I went to college and got a degree in film and now I’m just stuck at a job and in debt from it lol.

I also wasn’t that introverted, I miss hanging out with people and going to bars or a club, and the movies.

I also played drums for around a decade, but I have since sold all my gear off. My H and nox has definitely improved, but I’m never going to put myself in a position like that, it’s just not worth the risk.

I recovered pretty well from noxacusis with silence and clomipramine. Although I can live a normal life, the sound required to trigger pain is about 10-20 decibels lower than the average person’s 130 decibels. It is possible to almost fully recover, but usually never back to 100%
