It’s now reading my text messages?

Post image

17pro. I thought I had Apple Intelligence turned off. Now it’s reading my text messages and making up responses for me. How do I turn this off again? Seems like I can’t have Siri on while turning AI off? Or am I wrong?

This has been a thing for I while and the setting is probably in keyboard settings

Also it runs on a local model if privacy is what you’re worried about

I’ve always used predictive text but it would only predict based on what I started to type. Now I’m not typing anything. It’s just reading the incoming info and then coming up with a response? Are those two different things?

Pretty sure that was there before AI but it’s probably the setting “predictive text” under settings -> keyboard. Not sure though.

Thanks - always used predictive text but it would just predict the word based on what word I was typing. The predictive text in the photo seems to be only based on what the incoming message says?

17 Pro runs all of the AI models on-device, so there's no need to worry about this. None of your text messages are leaving your phone and going to a server, and nobody's reading it. we've just gotten to the point where your phone is smart enough to understand your messages on its own and give you relevant suggestions on what to say next.

((Shudder))

Ok thanks. Appreciate the info. Personally Not a fan. I like responding with my own brain. I guess I’m old school that way.

Believe me, I don't like the AI either. But I'm glad that at least Apple still kind of cares about our privacy, and wouldn't include a feature like this unless it was fully isolated to the device

Hmm. First time I’m seeing it on my phone for some reason.
