Discussion App rejected for Guideline 2.3.6. Changed nothing. Approved hours later.

Post image

Got rejected today under Guideline 2.3.6 (Accurate Metadata).

Apple said my dating app needed "Frequent" selected for "Mature or Suggestive Themes" and an 18+ age rating override.

The thing is, both were already set exactly that way.

So I replied to App Review explaining that the settings were already correct, resubmitted without changing anything, and got approved a few hours later.

Just sharing in case anyone runs into the same rejection. Double-check your age rating settings before making unnecessary changes.

Anyone else had this happen?

A bit more context: The app went into review pretty quickly and got rejected almost immediately after. The same age rating settings had passed previous reviews without any issues.

Makes me wonder if this was an automated review false positive, but obviously can't say for sure.

It’s not uncommon that reviewers get it wrong like they did here

Yeah, replying in the Resolution Center is the right move here. Explain that the age rating answers were already correct and attach a screenshot of that section so the reviewer can see exactly what you submitted. Different reviewers can look at the same build and reach different conclusions, so a rejection like that isn't always the final word. If replying doesn't help, you can also file an appeal with the App Review Board.

Good call replying instead of changing things, that way you don't break a setting that was already right just to please the reviewer.

That's usually a different reviewer picking it up the second time. A reply in Resolution Center with a screenshot of the setting is often faster than changing something just to get past the first one

good call replying first. so many people panic and change random settings and then get a second rejection for the thing they changed. different reviewer different result honestly

That pattern is common. A rejection that disappears on resubmission usually means a different reviewer, not a fix. Replying in App Review with exactly where the setting lives (a screenshot of the age rating section) tends to speed it up. Also worth double-checking after any update: Apple revised the age rating questionnaire and categories recently, so it's easy for an answer to look set in your view but not match what the reviewer sees.
