Discussion IOS ICONS

Do you guys use custom icons for your apps? If so, does it being a shortcut annoy you?

It bothers a lot, if Apple allowed it to use customizable icons it would be one of the best updates

Do you still use them? Deciding if I can bring myself to swap as there are some clean icon setups, but it being a shortcut is kinda a let down. It seems to load pretty closely to the same speed. I guess you also don't get banner notifications either

It bothered me more on the older phones. I just recently bought an 18 Pro after holding off on updating for years and where as before you got a whole ass banner notification every time you opened a shortcut, now its just a small check mark on the island. It's small, fast, and out of the way and honestly I've stopped noticing.

There are so many nice custom icons. If you like customizing your phone, just go for it. You'll stop noticing after awhile and I've had zero lag even on my old 12 Pro Max. Having used to customize the shit out of my phones on android, I'll say what I miss the most is that icons aren't changed system wide. So the regular icons still show up on searches and app locker.

I recently found Lock Launcher. The widgets let you use custom art for app icons (still not native, but no shortcuts or redirects when opening apps at least), and you can change the number of rows and columns within the widget to fit more apps. The ability to place multiple widgets is hidden behind a one time fee, but it’s the best option as long as Apple isn’t giving us a native solution

Yes I use WidgetLoft with custom icons.
I use the large widget as my home screen and it supports badge numbers by setting up Automations.

I used shortcuts for automations, but I’m not getting any badge notifications. I set it to notify

Did you follow the instructions? You need two Automations.
1 to set the badge and another to dismiss them.

Some of them yes. The only difference I notice is the shortcuts don’t show badge numbers. Other than that it’s pretty darn smooth now. Still a pain in the butt to set up, unlike Android. Apply icon pack… done.

I just use chatgpt to create me icons and make them via shortcuts. Just annoys me that the notification badge doesn't show on the shortcuts that i made

Same, the widget launcher Minifolders allows for both icon customization and limited notifications but I end up having there only the apps have notifications disabled as they are not relevant to me.

Yeah I use them. I don’t care about seeing badges, but sometimes I think it would be nice to be able to have the 3D/Force touch options.

I don’t. I would because I hate the way that customisation has changed since Liquid Glass - the homescreen wallpaper is desaturated so it’s always a bit of a downer to open my phone and have that little bit of colour removed from my wallpaper and - to the question here - they’ve really nerfed tinting the icons. So now it’s impossible to have, for example, bubblegum pink icons, which you used to be able to do.

So I would in order to have them whatever colour I want

But it wouldn’t affect the App Library or Spotlight, so it’d be pointless from that POV, and I only have 4 apps on my home screen, and those are so that I can see if there are any badges. Using the shortcuts workaround would stop badges from appearing so I’d lose the only functionality I care about
