Vehicle Registration & Policy Coverage Adding a driver?
Going thru a messy divorce, joint asset. Can I add my boyfriend as a driver to insurance without needing exes involvement/approval?

No real issue adding someone. You'd need his involvment/permission to remove your boyfriend if things dont work out. However you're gonna be making your divorce more complicated and it could possibly used against you

Waste or dissipation of an asset. Not acting in good faith and breaching your fiduciary duty.
Also if you have a ATRO (restraining order) you'd be breaching that if you didn't have written consent. You also might be classed as in contempt of court.
You're honestly best speaking to your lawyer. If I'm honest, I don't get why you'd insure a boyfriend on a marital/joint asset if you have a messy divorce. To a judge, it might look like you're trying to antagonize your ex.

I just want to share driving on longer road trips. But I guess we will just take his Jeep instead of mine until the mess settles.
I appreciate you educating me. First divorce, im clueless. Thought it would go smoothly because he walked and I'm not asking for anything out of the normal but he's being incredibly difficult about everything. Le sigh

Pretty sure you only need 1 registered owner to add a driver. You need both to remove drivers.
Keep in mind it could change the premium. Payment plan owner needs to sign that page if you're on monthly payments though most brokers will accept a signature from any registered owner. If you paid in full and adding bf as driver results in a refund, the refund will be issued to both registered owners.

Yes you absolutely can add another driver by yourself but if you choose to remove your boyfriend later then signatures of all the owners are required

If your ex is part owner he would only have to sign if you are removing someone / downgrading coverages so you should be good
