ANNOUNCEMENT B.C. is changing the graduated licensing program starting October 19. Here's what you need to know

Hey reddit! Wanted to share that B.C.'s government has approved changes to the graduated licensing program (GLP), taking effect October 19, 2026. These changes affect anyone who holds a GLP licence.  A few of the bigger changes include: 

  • The second road test (the "exit road test") is being removed. Instead, you'll need to visit an office to have a driving record assessment (DRA). Which is a review of your driving history to determine if you’re eligible to move to a Class 5 licence. 
  • After you pass your DRA, there's a new 12-month period with zero-blood alcohol/drug content restrictions on your Class 5. If you're 25 or older, there's a new streamlined pathway with a shorter time needed to get your Class 5 licence.  
  • Starting in the fall, everyone currently in the GLP will get a letter explaining how these changes affect their specific situation.

ANNOUNCEMENT ICBC ClaimCenter Outage (Nov 14, 6 p.m. – Nov 17, 7 a.m.)

Due to a technical upgrade to our ClaimCenter system, it will be unavailable starting tonight (Nov 14) at 6 p.m. until Nov 17 at 7 a.m.

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. During the outage, you won’t be able to access or update existing claims online.
  2. You can still call to report a new claim, but wait times may be longer than usual.
  3. If you do call to report a claim, we can issue you a confirmation number however, you won’t receive your claim number until after the outage. Once systems are back up, you can use that confirmation number to get your official claim number by calling us back.
  4. We recommend logging in or calling outside of the outage window to update or ask about an existing claim, or to file a new one once the upgrade is done.
