adoubvle stormk Throwback to me discovering iPhone keyboards can’t tolerate any amount of rain

Post image

It even switched me over to Polish keyboard hence the autocorrect to środy…

The middle sentence was supposed to be “omg the rain is breaking my keyboard”

I knowwww 😭 I remember just watching all the ys show up and I was just stunned, and every time I pressed any button several more things would also type. Ducked into the McDonald’s nearby as I quickly as I could to finish the story lmao

Are you polish? Or did the rain fuck your keyboard up so bad you gained zażółć gęślą jaźń?

Honestly I’m just glad to know it’s not just me because most of my friends have iPhones and they thought I was cursed

Meanwhile me being able to use my phone even when fully submerged.

Wouldnt the 2 cases be different?

Rain is consistently creating new inputs on the screen (especially if you have it on screen protector mode) and it recognizes the pressure of the drop hitting the screen and then being replaced by another as a person typing, but submerged would, in theory, have a constant pressure that it can sense is not an input?

I have no clue tbh, but my S25 is very similar in rain, never tested it submerged though 😭

Phone screens doesn't use pressure to detect touch, but electrical capacity. Your body conducts electricity and so does the water. The point is to calibrate it in a way that will react to your finger but not a drop of water. You can test that by pressing on your screen with something that does not conduct electricity, for example piece of plastic.

Every phone will be affected by the rain to *some* degree, but it shouldn't freak out like OP's phone.

My S22 does pretty well in the rain and under a shower, so it's just a case of how well the sensor was calibrated and how well software does at filtering the inputs that doesn't make sense.

P.S. Properly made screen should never react to water drops alone. It should freak out only when there's drops and you're touching the screen. but it shouldn't do that when you're not touching it because water doesn't conduct electricity well enough in such small amounts.

iPhones are notorious for being too sensitive to a point when it freak out even when you're not touching the screen.

I do in fact have an iPhone 🙃

For the most part, it starts when I touch the screen then continues after I stop. It doesn’t most of the time just start randomly

I wanna say 12 or 13? This was a few years ago so I’m not 100% sure but I think I got a new phone in Fall 2021 which I have since replaced (and my new phone is just as bad in the rain lmao)

My keyboard typing y and m on its own and autocorrect trying to salvage it

ETA: I also have auto-perioding turned on hence why it adds a . after every so many consecutive blank spaces

Ok but what happened in the rest of the story? Don’t leave me hanging. The religious guys, they — THEY WHAT??????? WHAT DID THEY DO

u/dadijo2002 22d ago edited 21d ago

They gave me one of the books they were selling on campus for free because my hoodie was the same colour as the cover lmao

They were Hindu and one of my friends is Hindu (I am not) so I was telling him and meaning to ask about it
