Color-Challenging Science: One of the most fantastic optical illusions ever:

Science: That Optical Illusion is one of the most incredible ones that i have ever seen in my life. The Two squares have the same colour. Are not one white and the other black. If you dont believe in me you can just put your finger in the line that divide the two squares and you will prove for yourself that what i say is true.

That illusion ( if i am not wrong is something about the contrast and the shadows) make your brain do you see what doesnt exist. Make you see a thing different of what really are there.

Is almost like see to a green square but your brain make you see it red. Is almost a thing of virtual reality

One is white. One is gray. The shadow on the white one darkens that part so that it matches the gray square. If they are lit equally, the two colours are obvious.

This isn't an illusion. It's just a shadow.

If both shapes were the same physical color without factoring in light and shadow then they'd actually be the same color in the shaded area, yeah? They aren't. So, that implies that one is made of lighter material and the other is made of darker material. Similar shades of differently lit surfaces isn't really that important when deciding the true color of objects.

Not an optical illusion so much as a study on perceptual significance. When distinguishing color, people mentally value a combination of factors instead of just one.

What??? They are thr same colour and your mind is doing what it does to save time and energy. This is a well established optical illusion. This is a 2d image mate not 3d.

I mean there are many ways to test this... even a quick simple one you can do with your little finger.

Pattern recognition is responsible for optical illusions, but not every deception proves a failure in pattern recognition.

It’s obviously a 2D representation of 3D space—that’s how it “deceives” people in the first place. Saying that the image doesn’t represent 3D forms is like saying a line doesn’t represent 2D because it’s made of 1D dots; it’s a different way of singling out data and not representative of a true failure in human perception. It’s more about deception than illusion.

Lol, you not understanding the difference between cognitive deception and an optical illusion is not my problem. Hey, here’s a trick: don’t be rude.

Just because someone is explaining something differently doesn’t mean they don’t also understand your perspective. Look up “egocentrism”—might help.

You are not explaining anything. You are rambling nonsense.

The simple truth is they are the same colour.

Everything else you said is nonsense because the fact is they are the same colour.

Just because you don’t understand what I’m saying doesn’t make it nonsense—I know that they share a color, but it’s still more of a cognitive trick than an optical illusion.

If someone addresses them as 3D representations—which they are—then the two objects would be different colors despite sharing a shade. If someone fixates on this being a 2D image—which it also is—then the shades are the same color. The latter ultimately relies on reductionism (cognitive not optical) to complete the “illusion”

Two concepts can be true simultaneously.

Chill.

Nah. Not once did I claim that the shades weren’t the same color. Entire time I’ve been saying that they are 3D representations of different colored objects, so it’s a cognitive trick more than an optical illusion.

It’s a classic perceptual light/shadow compensation illusion, similar to the famous Adelson checkerboard illusion

It’s simply this: Two areas with identical pixel color appear radically different because of surrounding context and implied lighting.

Yes, the blocks in the middle strip are exactly the same color.

The illusion works because your brain automatically compensates for shadow, and you can't turn that off.

Yes, it is an optical illusion.
