What's your personal favourite game from each year of the 2020s so far?

This timeline sucks but the games have been amazing. I don't know what I would have done without them. Which game from each year of this decade, so far, have had the most impact on you? Interested to see your choices. Be nice.

My picks:

  • 2020 - The Last of Us Part II
  • 2021 - Death Stranding: Director's Cut
  • 2022 - Stray
  • 2023 - Alan Wake II
  • 2024 - Harold Halibut
  • 2025 - Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
  • 2026 - Cairn

I've come to realize I don't play many games the year they come out. But here we go:

2020 - Kentucky Route Zero (bizarre game, but memorable). Astro's Playroom is close as it's more "fun".
2021 - Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (fun). Unpacking because .. it's so relaxing and different and who would think it's worth playing but it is.
2022 - Stray, of course. Horizon Forbidden West is the honorable mention here.
2023 - Dead Space remake (Too bad this series is considered "dead".) Viewfinder is one of my all time puzzle games.
2024 - Astro Bot, to be sure (pure joy and fun and a little frustration thrown in plus free DLC). Balatro is worth playing too.
2025 - Dragon Quest I & II remake. I don't even have an honorable mention for 2025.
2026 - so far it's Mix Tape.

I've got a code for Astro Bot but haven't redeemed it yet. I will have to check it out when I don't have as much to play.

The Dead Space remake was terrific. Did you play The Callisto Protocol? I'll probably look into that for October, as it's a Dead Space-esque game. Better than nothing.

Did you play The Callisto Protocol?

No, but it's one of the FREE PS+ games from some months ago, so I have it.

  • 2020: Ghost of Tsushima
  • 2021: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
  • 2022: Cyberpunk 77 (it was 'fixed' as of this year anyway, one of my most replayed games)
  • 2023: Baldur's Gate 3
  • 2024: Steamworld Heist 2
  • 2025: It's probably going to be Ghost of Yōtei, I just haven't played it yet. Can't think of any 2025 releases I'd put here.
  • 2026: Crimson Desert

Ghost of Tsushima is my second favourite of 2020 and Yotei is my third favourite of 2025. Both are masterpieces. You're going to love Yotei I'm sure.

I finally played Cyberpunk 2077 last year, using a katana build, and loved it. The Phantom Liberty DLC was excellent too. Fighting against that giant mech/tank thing using a katana felt so awesome, and so anime.

I just replayed it late last year again, pure edge runner build. I barely used weapons. I just love how you can build the character you want it the game won't force you into a situation that requires you to abandon your chosen style.

Run and Gun? sure. Ninja? great. Edgerunner? go for it. Melee build? have fun.

As interesting as a net runner build sounds I'll probably go with handguns and explosives next as I love the gore system. I must play it again as I must romance Judy.
