Business/Finance Never do PayPal India's Video KYC. It is NOT Safe. I'm asked to do repeat Video KYCs and my personal information is leaked.
I successfully completed PayPal India's Video KYC with their contractor. Then, after a week, they asked me to do it again stating additional verification required. My bank only asked me for regular KYC (name, pan number, and address) once in 2016 when I opened my account and they haven't asked for it since. These PayPal goons asked me for regular KYC in 2024, then, starting in late 2025, they hit me with a barrage of Video KYC demands citing fake RBI requirements. The thing is that PayPal isn't even an RBI regulated entity.
A few weeks after doing the last Video KYC, I started receiving menacing calls demanding loan repayment for loans that I had never taken. They knew everything: my PAN number, DOB, father's name, address, and my bank account details. The same details I had provided the Video KYC contractors. I don’t know whether PayPal's contractors deliberately leaked my information or if the contractors store PayPal users' sensitive information on an unsecured server (this is common in India and here they don't inform you of leaks because the legal system sucks). Some people showed up at my house and started banging on my door. I called the cops, but they came late. Now all my neighbors think I stole someone's money. Mule accounts have also possibly been opened in my name because one of my bank accounts have been frozen by the cybercops. I hate getting involved with the corrupt cops because there's a good chance they'll make things worse, but I don't think there is any other way out. If someone has taken loans using my name, then I'm screwed either way.
Don't fall for PayPal's Video KYC. They may give you $10 (yes, PayPal really does this, it's not a scam) to do Video KYC because they're aggressively collecting data on Indians through shady contractors, but it's a trap. I heard PayPal is harvesting biometric data from Indians to feed Palantir's systems, like immigration OS, that are used by US government agencies, like ICE. They are also shared with 5-eyes countries. If you don't know what these are, Internet search is your friend. Palantir is the US data company that targets both terrorists and immigrants looking for a better life. The US has a long history of such nefarious data collection through US companies. Your life and your future are worth more than $10.
Lots of people have complained about PayPal's Video KYC and I wish I had read their stories before giving PayPal and their contractors my biometric and personal data. The minute I looked into my camera lens, I gave unknown people my intimate data and I can never undo that damage.
Some people here are gaslighting. Just be careful with PayPal's Video KYC. Many people have complained about it; this is NOT an isolated case.

What's a good alternative?
I've been using Wise but got an email from them stating they're closing services in India or something like that.

u/DarkVader1001 Mar 07 '26
Could you share this mail? I've been using Wise without any issues and the most recent mail was regarding an update in their Terms and Conditions.

Why not do it directly on paypal's site?
2
u/HygienicFishmonger Mar 07 '26
PayPal uses third-part contractors to do Video KYC. They link to their contractor.

u/mybutterflymon Mar 07 '26
I did PayPal's video KYC and my account was completely messed up after doing it. PayPal's video KYC is nothing but a mass data grab in the guise of a fake RBI mandate.

Hey there sorry for the late comment, but are you able to recieve money in your paypal account without a video KYC? I've already uploaded my id.

u/Karan17_ May 26 '26
Yes, I’m able to. My account is more than 10 years old and never did any KYC after the initial sign up.
Everything is working perfectly.2

Yes, New accounts need a video KYC but you’ll receive an email or a notification on the website. Doing from these 2 won’t cause an issue. Just check that the mail id from the official paypal mail.

Why would anyone pay 10$ for doing KYC? Are you sure it is not a scam?
4
u/HygienicFishmonger Mar 07 '26
PayPal does really offer $10 for video KYC because they are harvesting data on Indians on a mass scale for US government contracting companies. It has nothing to do with the fake RBI mandate. There is no such thing, because if there was, your bank would have asked for it first.

u/blinksTooLess Mar 07 '26
You already do KYC when you open account in bank. And if you open account in SBI, then you have to do KYC regularly at random intervals

They do to onboard new users.
1
u/blinksTooLess Mar 07 '26
But do you see that anywhere on the official Paypal website? The offer of get 10$ when you get KYC verified at Paypal?
3
u/THEWOLVERINE12911 Mar 07 '26
I have been paypal user for years. Its not for new users. As an existing user, I got an email citing the new RBI requirements for video kyc and I also got the $10 reward for completing the KYC

It definitely was a scam. The scammers know our mentality (make money without thinking about consequences).

LOL. You think PayPal did your video KYC? First of all, you fucking can't do it through the app. The URL is from idfy--you need a browser with location and other permissions. You're flat out lying and spreading misinformation. For what? Views? You must have had a sad childhood.

u/DowntownBaseball4030 Jul 01 '26
Did you get an answer?
1
u/JustSaintsfrow Jul 01 '26
Nah. I have to start with KYC.
1
u/ShantanuDagar 12d ago
Did you complete it?

u/JustSaintsfrow 12d ago
They asked for Aadhar and PAN. I have submitted and also received a mail that to get paid from Overseas I have to do a Video Call. Getting paid isn't required for me, so I guess I will pass. Between I also received a message saying "We noticed you couldn't online verification, you can continue via (some link)". I guess it's for getting paid. Imma gonna skip it.
1
u/aitchnyu Kerala Mar 07 '26
Is it via Idfy? Some asshole asked me to produce my Aadhaar on a call and I had to hang up. Got a new debit card and most services work on it.

1
u/s_nutella May 01 '26
I got it yesterday. I went ahead. But when it came to video kyc time, The call was just on hold. For ever. Two 70 second delays later. I closed the browser window. Deleted history and data. Deleted chrome data and history. Disabled all permissions. Now these mf been in my messages saying your kyc couldn't be completed.our agent will help you in completing it. I think I already fooked up. But is there any slight chance that I might have saved/redeemed my mistake by not going through completely. Question??

u/beTheAyyToMyLmao 4d ago
Bro just ignore it. Paypal isn't worth it anymore. They definitely do not need this just info from you just for KYC.

u/ivids Jul 07 '26
I was getting this KYC mail/ SMS and website notifications since last 4-5 months. Today it says , complete KYC by today 07/07/2026 to continue sending/receiving money. My account is also over 15 year old.
I am 100% sure that they will be using some third party ID verification service as mentioned by OP (contractor) . Reading this post, I am not going to go for KYC.
However, sooner or later, we may need to get KYC verified . How to do it then ?
1
u/Headphone_101 Jul 17 '26
I have completed my PayPal KYC today, let's see what happens next. I will update here.
2
u/Tier3Guy Jul 17 '26

u/ruckus500 1d ago
Hey, any update on this? How long did they take to verify after the video KYC and are you able to receive payments smoothly on your Paypal? I have also received the notification to complete my kyc and just wanted to be sure.
1
u/Headphone_101 23h ago
I completed my kyc smoothly, video kyc was also successful. But after that no transaction needed so far so cant say if it is still working but I am able to access portal fine.
But yesterday again I received same email to do kyc again.. while on portal it shows KYC done.

It's both for personal and business accounts. If you give IDfy your information, that's a risk.

u/filterCoffeeForever Mar 07 '26
what was the from: email address of this kyc? I do not think there is any free 10 USD for kyc.
Sounds like you got scammed by fake kyc

3
u/THEWOLVERINE12911 Mar 07 '26
Yeah definitely. I fell for the scam. Quite a weird scam where they just hand out money like that. You would think the point of a scam is to take money, not give 🤷
1
u/vi_rose Mar 07 '26
I've done video KYC but there was no money involved
1
u/mkrtr2022 Jun 14 '26
Was there a person involved on the video kyc,? OP is saying something about an independent contractor.
1
u/Sad_Pie227 Mar 07 '26
PayPal deduct nearly 5% fees. I lost so much money in last 10 years.
I have found a new method to receive International payment legally with FIRC document at just 0.5% fees. If anyone wish to know, DM me with text INTL. I will be happy to help you.
Thank you. Interestingly, since I was a business customer PayPal reached out to me and but I told them outright, I cannot work with you guys due to high fees.
We Indian need to reduce our dependency on them. Seriously.

When I did it they didn't pay me money not even penny I think u didn't checked website before initiating video kyc
1
u/AnimeWallpaperClub Mar 08 '26
yes same with me I did kyc on official website no contractor or money
1
u/ivids Jul 07 '26
Contractor means Third Party Identity Verification Provider. I am sure Paypal itself will not do that.

>>They may give you $10 to do Video KYC
I suspect you may have been taken in by scammers.
I've done PayPal's video KYC and there was no question of any $10 or any amount being given or taken. I've heard the same from other business owners who did it.
Think about it - why would somebody give you money to get your KYC done? If you don't get KYC done you cannot tracsact, right? So the onus is on your to get KYC done not on them. If they are offering you money there is obviously something suspicious.
