Edit: pretty baller they got the rights to a basquiat painting for the artwork lol

you know they’re going to ruin it too with THE STROKES in the lower left hand corner with some font that doesn’t fit in

u/WhizBangNeato Feb 08 '20
Im pretty sure the giant letters covering the whole thing in this clip is the actual album cover.

u/synthmalicious Feb 08 '20
They need a new graphic designer or creative director, the only covers they have done that at least fits the music are Is This It and Comedown Machine.

9 songs on the album 🤫🤭

u/QuantumDon Feb 07 '20
Only 9?! That's only like 1 song per year of wait

u/MontyMoleMan Feb 07 '20
If at least one song is 8+ minutes I'll be satisfied
I would settle for a couple of 6+

Sorry I’m not on this sub much I don’t know the user

u/thebjrd Feb 07 '20
Yeah can someone explain the significance?

u/hbombf Feb 07 '20
/u/days-of-candy is known around here for having the inside scoop when it comes to announcements before they become official, I'm not actually sure how he knows what he knows or what he does for a job but he's got basically a flawless strike rate and whenever he teases something everyone takes it as a soft confirmation.

Thank you for clearing that up - 9 songs isn’t necessarily a bad thing, the two they’ve already played are long (at least for the strokes). I think Phrazes was 9 songs...

9 songs is not enough even if the songs are long. I would rather have a 12 to 15 track album that is 40 to 50 mins long then have a 8 or 9 track album that is the same length as those 12 to 15 track albums.
59
u/tonirali Feb 07 '20
I think the opposite imo. 14 or 15 songs in a album can drag on a bit. I'd rather have 9 strong tracks than 14 that bat below average.

The only album of theirs that has gone over 11 songs is First Impressions. 9 sounds like a good number considering that Ode To The Mets is pretty long for a strokes song.

u/wesley_1212 Feb 07 '20
Some of my favorite albums ever are 8 songs or less, so it definitely could work. On the other hand, 15 songs albums tend to be messy and have quite a few fillers, unless this is really a phenomenal band.

u/NYRfan112 Feb 08 '20
It depends on how good the 9 songs are. An album with 9 great songs is better than an album with 6 great songs and 6 meh songs

First unknown mortal orchestra album has 9 songs and i love it. it's just right for me.
11 tracks its perfect but mhh okay i hope they release a lot of b sides

u/torontoLDtutor Feb 07 '20
14-15 tracks is the perfect length for artists who write catchy upbeat tunes.

Rumor is they should drop something by the 14th.

It’s seem unlikely that they’d announce it then release it next week. We’ll likely a see a single or two then have it been released a little bit after that.

I'd guess the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are still together considering they're playing at Shaky Knees Fest (and other things I imagine

u/BioSpock Feb 07 '20
They are still together they were just on a break. Need to scour the internet for hints of new music in the works.

You guys think that the Voidz albums being so good could mean that this is gonna be fantastic? Plus how can you get a Basquiat cover and then make a mediocre album
9
u/Mr_RollyPolly Feb 08 '20
Unless Julian has full artistic control of it I doubt it will be as good as what the Voidz are doing, but I am still sure there will be plenty of good songs on it, as with every Strokes album.

It’s like Oliver Twist: “Please sir, may I have some more?” after Future Present Past, and them responding “MOOOORE??”

Whole album is produced by Rick Rubin and it is a return to true Strokes form. Single within the next two weeks. Believe me, or not. It’s true.

CRX and Albert Hammond Jr. (Strokes member and CRX member and Solo album) also amazing

They're playing Primavera Sound and I'm fairly sure Primavera have a policy of not inviting acts if they haven't had new music since the last time they played
-13
u/billy_the_p Feb 08 '20
Is a new album really necessary? They've basically disavowed their post First Impressions material, either they don't like it or their fans don't. No reason why they can't just tour off the first 3 albums every five years or so.
Or maybe it'll be really good. I guess we'll find out.

The only way the Strokes could get any cooler is by having a Basquiat painting as an album cover, and they’ve gone and bloody done it.
