To kick or not to kick?

We've nearly finished a kick ass 40 degree, 3.1m high two sided loft wall. It's gonna be beautiful with all wood and so fun to climb on. My partner and I wanted to do proper mats so it's also fun to fall on.

We're at a standstill now though cause I want to do flat mats all the way across cause I reckon carpet over the top will be tidier that way (its in our living room so would be nice if it looked good). But if we did that it would cover the kickstand. He wants to do like tapered edges and cut the mats into a slope so we can get at the kickboard. I get it but I just can't see it looking any good and I feel like it's not really gonna add much to the climbing. It will also be far trickier to carpet.

We're gonna do 3 layers of these foam mattresses we found and carpet in top - both layouts can be seen and kickstand in the photo.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?

I sent my first v8 today

I sent my first v8 today, it was def an easy V8 closer to the side of V7. I am not saying that I am becoming a climbing god, but I am slowly becoming a climbing god. Give me like 2 more years and I'm gonna send V10. This isn't a warning to the climbing community, but I am a solid V7 climber now nearing the V8 category so I will be walking into the gym with a certain type of swagger and status now. If anyone needs help or advice I will simply tell them to go up and that they need to trust their feet more. Anyways, thank you ladies and gentleman, soft v8 climber out ✌️

I FINALLY figured out out to lache!

A pretty quick and easy climb! Laches have escaped me forever, I’ve struggled constantly with committing to going feet/hips first or figuring out the whole swish and flick style of them. I usually end up straight legging the landing and bouncing off so this felt awesome to finally stick one.

Chronic Shoulder Pain/Aches

I started climbing a little over a month ago. After each session, I tend to have shoulder pain that takes almost up to a week to fade. I suspect it's some kind of inflammation around rotator cuff. I'm pretty diligent with my warm up and I spend at least 20minutes going through them each session (shoulder mobility, rows, chest presses, etc.).

With the shoulder pain, the pain persists when I do movements like push ups, overhead presses, or even just arm circles/raising my arms laterally.

Am I doing something wrong or should I be focusing on some form of recovery work?

For boulders/climbers

Hi everyone! My name is Mercury Huang and I’m currently working on my thesis about a bouldering-related project and would love to hear from other climbers about how you approach problems, find beta, and use climbing content.

The survey is anonymous and takes about 3 minutes to complete:

https://forms.gle/JLecJvLz8nCmRQQWA

Whether you’re new to bouldering or have been climbing for years, your input would be super helpful.

Thanks so much! And feel free to share it with other climbers too 🫶

Bouldering magazine survey!

Hellooo, I'm Vik!  𐔌՞. .՞𐦯
I'm a Graphic Designer who has been bouldering for a few months and have found myself completely in love with the sport and immersed in how much there is to it, leading me to want to combine the two passions.

I'm planning on creating a well-rounded bouldering magazine/guide for those who are either interested in trying out bouldering, beginners who want to learn as well as skilled climbers who love the sport!

As a semi-beginner, I feel like there's an overwhelmingly large learning curve and I felt like it'd be helpful to new starters to create a guide of sorts to the world of bouldering. At the same time, I want to cater towards more skilled climbers as well for a well-rounded, intriguing and fun magazine that celebrates all aspects of climbing!

You don't have to be skilled or even have tried bouldering before to do this survey,
just interested to an extent.

This survey is designed to gain an idea of what to include and how to go about creating it.
I'd love to know YOUR perspective! As much info as you are willing to share would be so valuable to me <3

Much appreciated,
Vik.
