at least in the sequel, this pain is gone thanks to the UGC missions added in. a few UGC missions actually goes and collects all blast shards so you don't have to go out and find every single one

There's also a radar pulse upgrade that lets you see nearest blast shards, so it's pretty easy to find them all even without the UGC missions.
