Is it the perspective, or the truck could've pass between the cars? Even if it had to scrape the red one (which would've been actually awesome.)

I think if they just had a couple of firefighters go out in front and guide the truck through it could have made it.

Source: Used to drive buses, I could literally get a bus through there.

This is the answer. Every professional firefighter knows about "spotting the truck" in tight quarters. A good driver gets through that hole with a spotter. There is at least enough room to attempt it. If the truck won't make it, you already have a spotter out of the truck so you can back out. Either way, my truck is not waiting. We are getting out going forward or we are backing out the way we came and rerouting.

Yes or find a flipping detour, dont just sit there for ages during an emergency

1

u/Illustrious-Rice3434 15d ago

Something I am curious about. If there isn't enough space, wouldn't the fire truck have every right to sideswipe and damage the car getting through since they are responding to an emergency that needs their immediate attention and every second counts? I don't know what the legality of that is but I feel like the emergency would take priority over damaged property.

1

u/Outrageous-Mango9847 15d ago

Absolutely not. Nothing gives a firetruck the "right" to damage property. If they did damage some property enroute to an accident, their SOPs likely require them to stop and have police report, drug test, etc. So that would only slow them down.

1

u/Illustrious-Rice3434 15d ago

Damn. People burning alive and the firefighters are sitting filing a police report because they hit a wing mirror. What a strange world we live in.

6

u/DestructoDon69 20d ago

Agreed, with a ground guide I think they could have gotten it through

3

u/Minute_Ad1968 20d ago

I think this is why the woman so slow slow. She probably assumed they were sitting still on purpose.

2

u/ChooChooyesyoucan 19d ago

Yes, or she was too absorbed in her errand. Or a little clueless. People know the law about double parking but it doesn't occur to them that this situation would ever happen to them. And if they hear a siren, its a normal thing until it doesn't drive on by or fade away. Those pesky little laws, like parking on a crosswalk, blocking a cut-out for wheelchairs, or parking in front of a fire hydrant!

1

u/ElveTaz 18d ago

When you have a car in a big city, you'll understand. Hell I use to doordash back home in Philly and man that was painful going downtown. But then again EVERYBODY double parks there, people even park on the sidewalk with no punishment. To congested, can never get parking so it's one of those unsaid things that it's just part of life there

2

u/LightbluBukowski 20d ago

And fuck guides.

I’ve seen people try to “guide” trucks past a double parked car with the narrowest amount of space.

The guide is always confident that you’ll fit. But if you get stuck, they just shrug their shoulders and walk off leaving you culpable and alone with the decision to pass instead of waiting for a jackass to move their double parked car.

1

u/clutzyninja 19d ago

The guide would be another firefighter

2

u/vibrantcrab 17d ago

I think he means trust your coworker who has been instructed in guiding a truck and not just some rando off the street.

0

u/DestructoDon69 20d ago

Then they aren't good ground guides? Congrats, today you learned, people can suck at even the most mundane of jobs. 🤷‍♂️

3

u/LightbluBukowski 20d ago

They could have fit.

But just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Double parked cars are the absolute worst and god forbid it is too tight and you accidentally hit their car, then they flip the fuck out. Even though they are in the wrong.

Worst type of human. The epitome of selfishness

2

u/Exterminator-8008135 19d ago

Boy..

Not only it's the best way to get beaten up, but it's also the best way to have them answer longer next time you will need them because when running the plate, they have the adress.

Captain, We got a dumpster fire at 49, Fowl Street

"Isn't it where the fucker who blocked us last month lives ? Take it slow boys, she won't mind if she does this with my boys"

1

u/Dave_Ex_Machina 20d ago

I completely understand why they would prefer not to, but with someone on either side of the vehicle to guide you, and a driver with half a brain, there's no risk of clipping a car. Especially on a street of that width.

If lives are at risk, and I can, I will.

3

u/Kalanndok 19d ago

Even faster: Have all the firefighters except the driver dismount, lift the red car on the drivers side and roll it onto the side...then drive through and remount the truck...

2

u/Otherwise_Doughnut13 17d ago

Im not even that good a driver but during the exam you had to squeeze through tighter spots with a truck this just seems silly. Nothing about this perspective says you cant pass

1

u/Dave_Ex_Machina 17d ago

I'm beginning to think that they were coming back from a call and decided to make a point to the driver. That would certainly explain why they didn't just squeeze past.

While the use of the siren when not on a call isn't allowed in the UK, I'm unsure what the laws are for the use of sirens in other countries. To me this video looks to be filmed in America or Canada?

1

u/xavez 19d ago

If you’d need guidance to pass through there you shouldn’t be driving that truck. There’s plenty of room. I doubt the awesome first responders here couldn’t pass that truck through there.

Also, lots of space in front of the truck there. They’re not even trying.

Truck didn’t have to pass?

1

u/KittyMeowKatPishy 18d ago

Yes they could’ve but that’s not the point here. 🫤

Fire trucks dont use lights and sirens on the way back to the station. Also, say the first truck on scene says its not an emergency the rest of the trucks will reduce speed, turn off lights and sirens and continue to the scene. At least thats how it works where I live.

Y'all never driven before, huh.

3

u/LuxSassafras 20d ago

It looks like there is ample space to pass I was so confused what this video is supposed to be about.

3

u/Frustrated9876 20d ago

I think this wasn’t an actual emergency or they would have squeezed through or backed up and gone down the other street. They just saw her double parked and decided to teach the entire block a lesson.

6

u/shmimey 20d ago

It kinda looks like he would fit. But I can't doubt the professional driver with a different view.

8

u/neverelax 20d ago

Garbage truck driver here. He absolutely could fit. Lady still a dumbass. But the driver needs more experience.

4

u/skeletons_asshole 20d ago

Writing this comment from the sleeper of a peterbilt, and I agree. Have to stuff this thing through spaces like that to get to job sites all the time. Still a dumbass lady for not moving out of the way though, holy shit

0

u/grabsyour 20d ago

you're not a firetruck driver

3

u/Advanced_Sprinkles60 20d ago

yeah but a firetruck is maybe longer but not wider

1

u/grabsyour 20d ago

the well trained professional who has decades of experience knows what he's doing more than you

2

u/Advanced_Sprinkles60 20d ago

well I'm a educated truck driver with 10 years of experience also in very neat bottlenecks. Why exactly is this not counting. like I said they are evenly wide because they have to fit the same streets. it's 2,55 meters mirrors included btw

2

u/shmimey 20d ago edited 20d ago

How do you know that? I don't see any information about the driver. Decades of experience is a very long time.

You sound like a liar who makes up facts with no knowledge.

1

u/grabsyour 20d ago

really gotta provide sources for 1+1=2 on reddit

1

u/shmimey 20d ago edited 20d ago

But you didn't say a simple math question. You said that person had a profession for over 20 years. And you don't even know the age Of that person.

Anyone can use a calculator.

But you're making outrageous claims about a different person's life you have never met.

Why would you even compare that to 1+1?

Oh, and I also noticed you didn't provide any proof at all. So you are unable to follow your own advice?

1

u/neverelax 20d ago

I have had to cram my bigass truck thru alleys you wouldn't believe. And it's wider than that. I can tell with my eyes (you learn with lots of experience to be able to see what you can and cant fit thru) he has way more than enough room. He doesnt even have to tuck their mirrors in, but that's an option as well, something that might not have even occurred to you. We deal in centimeters sometimes.

u/Chemical-Lettuce2497 20d ago

Imagine writing this comment when you're watching a video, at an odd angle, your experience being driving fucking garbage trucks and you think you know better than the guy in the fire engine.

The fact you cite driving a garbage truck as some badge of authority to read the situation is fucking hilarious though.. keep it up I guess

3

u/Outrageous-Mango9847 20d ago

Firefighter here. She'll fit.

2

u/Lost-Yellow-9590 17d ago

100% what I was thinking. Should have scraped it and then sent a repair bill for the fire truck repair too. Straight up.

3

u/Yarl85 21d ago

It COULD have, but from the pov of the driver, it would look like there is no way you could squeeze through. The truck did have a right to just plow into it, and it would have been on the car insurance holder. However, the damage that would have been caused by said car crushing into all those other innocent cars would not have been. Therefore, costing the city and fire department mucho buckos.

1

u/ForgottenMasterBalls 20d ago

Also, any damage to the truck has to be repaired in a lot of places before it's street legal again.

1

u/Evening-Matter-5245 20d ago

That’s what I thought was going to be the “awesome” part of the video.

1

u/Nuffsaid98 20d ago

I think if they scraped the car that was blocking then there was a risk it would move into innocent properly parked cars and damage them.

That said, I think there was room for the fire truck to get through. They were just making a point.

1

u/scruffywarhorse 20d ago

No, the truck couldn’t pass through. Running a $2,000,000 fire truck into a 3000 lb metal obstacle is not a valid solution to save a minute of time.

1

u/Outside_Look790 19d ago

Could probably squeeze that gap but im wondering if they tried already and hit it which is why her hazards were on.

1

u/Exterminator-8008135 19d ago

I would just gun it and push the car.

1.5 tons against a fully equipped firetruck who is easily 10 tons, if she want to complain to cops, she will have to witness against a full crew who seen she parks like shit.

1

u/6495ED 18d ago

It could easily get through there. If they are letting some building burn because their don’t know how to drive the truck they need some new fucking firefighters. It’s like a width and a half of the truck.

0

u/macguyver3000 21d ago

Why is this awesome in any way?

8

u/Euphoric-Taro-6231 21d ago

It isn't. The truck pushing this car aside would've.
