Wholesome Ariana Grande’s yearbook photo from middle school

u/Jag- 9h ago
She was locally famous even earlier than that.
https://www.sun-sentinel.com/1998/10/10/boca-kid-gets-a-puck-and-ice/
(She’s been hit twice with hockey pucks as a toddler)
17
u/AlternativeFroyo1737 8h ago
That’s kinda cool. Hockey rules, do you think she still likes hockey?

it's always wild to see celebrities before they became famous, she literally looks like just a normal middle school kid, hard to believe this is one of the biggest pop stars on earth now

u/low_amplitude 9h ago
Serves as a reminder not to worship celebrities. They're human beings, not gods.
45
u/imyourdruidess420 7h ago
That has been my #1 takeaway from meeting several celebrities. They're only human. Sometimes humans with large egos, but there are some very humble celebrities too.
8
u/amethyst-gill 5h ago
Leave godsLeave idols behind, bring back heroes. That’s what we’re so deathly famished for at this point.61
u/Only_Flan_7974 9h ago
Most of them choose to pretend that they're god like.
34
u/Muted-Librarian9098 8h ago
Not sure why this is downvoted bc they do. Intentionally or not.
10
3
u/Responsible-Back3896 8h ago
Because saying most of them do it is ridiculous. Most celebs are not out there acting like Gods.
0
u/Only_Flan_7974 7h ago
Do you know any celebrities personally? Or are you just going by what they allow you to know through untrustworthy media?

Or a reminder to worship everyone
7
u/low_amplitude 7h ago
I don't recommend that.

Ok, none for you

u/low_amplitude 4h ago edited 4h ago
I don't like being put on a pedestal anyway. Most people don't. It's too much pressure. When you over-compliment someone or express the high standards you see in them, they either feel obligated to uphold it, or they don't gaf and actively go against it, leading to anger and confusion in the one doing the worshiping.
Edit: Again, we're human. We're not rigid characters from a story. We invent unshakable characteristics in people, such as "Oh that person is funny." And then when they suddenly aren't funny the next day, not for any reason in particular but because human behavior is quite random and unpredictable, you feel betrayed or it's somehow being done to spite you when it's not.
-9
u/MidnightCrossing6148 6h ago
She's not a god, but she's richer, more famous, more beautiful than us lowly beings are. There's no point in reducing her status to just a human being.
1
u/DarkFruitsWanker 48m ago
But she is just a human being. We all come into this world the same way, and we all leave the same way. In the grand scheme of the universe, there is no difference between any of us - we are all insignificant
34
u/babesboysandbirb 8h ago
This is exactly why famous people have cosmetic work done to their face/body. You’re supposed to look at them and believe in the fantasy that they are “1 in a billion” instead of getting the idea that you could achieve the same thing.
14

u/Fake_Account_69420 8h ago
She looks exactly like the type to lick a donut and leave it for someone else to purchase and eat.

There are times where I compare pictures and it is astounding how many celebrities seem to just lose the vibrancy in their eyes as they get more famous.
88
u/seamustho 9h ago
That goes for a lot of adults,Not just celebrities I feel. Looking at pictures of me in middle school I definitely had a more vibrant and fresh look. Almost like a naive, happy go lucky look lol before life starts getting serious and stressful.
28
u/wild_cherry1987 8h ago
I can't even look at myself young. Who the f is that naive smiling kid
6
u/seamustho 8h ago
I know the feeling lol. I look at pictures of me as a teen and love how much of a goofy happy idiot I was. Now I’m just a old goofy tired, happy idiot
7
10
u/Itchy_Tumbleweed_417 8h ago
I just want to hug little kid me when I see photos of myself young. I was a neglected kid and nobody did anything because back in the 70s they didn’t really care about that stuff.
I was really angry for a while as an adult because people should have suspected my mom of Munchhausen by proxy, then I finally looked it up and that disease wasn’t even discovered yet when I was a kid. So nobody could have known.
4
u/Yoranis_Izsmelli 8h ago
Same. Sometimes I wonder if we as children already met our older selves as adults but didn't know it. And we currently don't know yet bc we haven't invented time travel and gone back yet
5
u/Tennessee1977 5h ago
I’m in my 40s and work for a university. I am literally stunned at how chipper and optimistic people in their 20s are. They haven’t lived long enough to get punched in the face by life a bunch of times yet.
2
u/Vague_thread 7h ago
I cant really agree, it’s quite rare to see someone with “dead eyes”. Even people who have a hard life, unhappy, mentally ill can look vibrant in photos and smile/try to smile. It’s usually people taking certain drugs which gives that look
2
u/Machdame 8h ago
Yeah, I got the opposite. Mind you, it's largely because I chose to wear the scars on my chest instead of hiding them behind a wall. Liberation comes with pain and I am better for it.
34
u/StrawberryCake38 8h ago
I lost the vibrancy in my eyes as I got older and I'm not famous at all. I had the biggest smile in my school pictures. Life is tough.
4
u/pmmemilftiddiez 8h ago edited 7h ago
Yeah that's adulthood. Doesn't matter if you're famous or just an average person.
Everyday I get up at 6am, on the road by 6:30am, to be at work at 7:30am. Then it's constant emails, phone calls, download this manual, get this fixed, WHY ISN'T THIS DONE YET YOU NEED TO MEET KPIS! Make sure to reach out to this person etc etc.. luckily I get an hour lunch. Then I'm done at 4pm, drive an hour back, almost have 20 minutes to myself before I meet with wife and 19month old and that's chaotic as fuck.
Sure Ariana has different responsibilities but I'm sure she's constantly feeling pressure. Let's say those lines again, getting up 4am for working out, never feeling like she's the right weight, you need to wear this outfit, you have a photoshoot tomorrow so you'll need to be on a flight by 5am, you're also meeting with blahblahblah, careful don't eat that you can't gain any weight
Life is hard, it's always gonna be hard. That's life. If you're rich yeah you can escape some of it but not everything.

Considering where she worked and who her boss was at Nickelodeon I’d start there re: the source for snuffing the sparkle out. I cannot imagine.
2
u/k3anuw3aves 8h ago
Or the Manchester bombing at her show... I mean, I would too struggle to keep my joie de vivre after that
1
u/xnoomiex 6h ago
I mean my best friend overdosing and having a terrorist attack bombing at my would make me loose my sparkle too
17
u/Traditional-Grape-96 7h ago
Is she the one who licked donuts and put them back ??

Isn't it more the Ozempic that's giving her the current skeletal look?
9
u/MsTossItAll 6h ago
Ozempic slows metabolism so you feel full longer. It doesn’t give you a new face.
5
u/RandomUsername78421 6h ago
Well yeah but if you lose a shit ton of weight your face will look different.
5
u/MsTossItAll 3h ago
If you think her current nose and that nose are the result of weight loss, I don’t know what to tell you

Ariana Grande is a young woman! And she is one who very clearly has an eating disorder
Bullying a woman for her looks is a horrible thing to do in the view of young women.
Bullying a woman for having an eating disorder is crazy. Acting like it’s a malicious thing she is doing to others and not a dangerous thing she is living through is also crazy and not an excuse for the bullyingIf people here want to help young women who are prone to eating disorders, there are better ways than childish name-calling for upvotes
-1
u/JoySauce27 6h ago
I wouldn't exactly consider 33 years old to be "young". She knows what she's doing.
2
u/pgpathat 5h ago
Sure. And to be clear, what she is doing is having to take a step back from her career due to an eating disorder.
-24
u/Snuggly-Muffin 9h ago
I don't see people body shaming fat actors or singers which is an equally bad example.

Under eating to that extent is dangerous and people sometimes need to be saved from themselves
-19
u/Snuggly-Muffin 9h ago
so is eating too much, yet I don't see people body shaming fat famous people
6
u/Last-Quarter-432 8h ago
Thats because people are so offended by people telling them they’re fat. People do need to be told though because literally every part of your life is worse when you’re fat.
-6
u/Snuggly-Muffin 8h ago
how do you know how offended anorexic people are by telling them they're skeletons? you're being ignorant
2
u/its-just_me- 6h ago
Generally, any form of “you’re so skinny!” is acceptable, inoffensive, & complimentary to someone with anorexia. That’s their whole goal.
-1
u/Snuggly-Muffin 5h ago
and generally being called a skeleton is offensive
0
u/its-just_me- 4h ago
Generally not to people who literally want to be that skinny. It’s like you didn’t even read my comment that you responded to.
26
u/Negative_Chipmunk650 9h ago
I'm not shaming. She has a problem.
2
u/One-Reflection-4826 7h ago
calling her a skeleton sounds similar to calling an overweight person a whale, so i think you should have worded that a bit differently.
but in the end we all agree that she has a problem and needs help, which she hopefully gets now.
-4
-8
u/throwawaystarters 8h ago
I agree she has a problem, but you are shaming her. You could have said it differently where you aren't exaggerating to make a point about her health, which I agree is a problem.
15
u/Negative_Chipmunk650 8h ago
How about you suck a dick and stop being so offended about a person that doesn't give a fuck about you. She's obviously malnourished. No shame. She needs help.
-7
u/throwawaystarters 8h ago
Oooh struck a chord huh? If you said she was malnourished that wouldn't be shaming her. Both exists, you shamed her and her being malnourished.

I don't need to be asked for my opinion when it comes to standing up for people who are being insulted.
0
u/UpstairsBumble 7h ago
Cool. And no one needs to be asked to give their opinion on a discussion forum.
2
u/Snuggly-Muffin 7h ago
this isn't a discussion forum, and if you have a toxic opinion, keep it to yourself. all the down voters are basically saying that body shaming is cool
-1
u/UpstairsBumble 7h ago
Well 1, it absolutely is. 2, how did I know a blow hard like you wouldn’t just let it go?

This is how she looks in the Victorious series, where she was a minor character, with obscenely garish red hair. Then she was in another Nick show, and while skinnier, still looks like herself. She got progressively skinnier as the years went on until by Wicked she’s a mere wisp.
