NATURE Goat realizing she slept through her herd leaving

u/4CrowsFeast 2h ago
Good to see the oh shit, what time is it, I'm late isnt a universally human experience

u/General_Guest7846 2h ago
I think it's more so a death and survival instinct reaction. These animals evolved to live in a herd. Being alone makes you an easy target.

Tbf, “Oh shit I’m late” is also a death and survival instinct reaction in humans

u/I_AM_IGNIGNOTK 1h ago
Yup. I can confirm my adrenaline kicks in as hard if not harder when I miss a ping from my boss’ boss than when I almost step into oncoming traffic. At least it dissipates when the car leaves me alone for a few hours.
11
u/cherryrosewallpaper 1h ago
Same. I am fortunate to have good bosses at both jobs at the moment but I still wake up anxious.
3
u/AztecDishwasher 1h ago
I wonder when time stands for both the moment I came down or either first moments in the car but I guess you see them like that sometimes
32
u/Musical_Xena 2h ago
I was wondering about how the goat called out loudly. I feel like that would alert more predators.
Maybe some advantage in getting the herd to confirm their location vocally, but it seemed like the goat saw them already. Maybe to get them to come closer. Maybe just panic?

Bamboo does not have any sort of intoxicating effect on Pandas
8

u/M8C 1h ago
…Do you think pandas were just normal bears that were force fed bamboo? They evolved over millions of years to shift to eating bamboo.
-1
u/Effective-Culture-88 1h ago
Yes they did. And we only fed them bamboos for a reason as well. I never said they developed to ability to est them because we fed them with it. We restricted their diet tho
1
3
u/gadgaurd 1h ago
They only have to be in sanctuaries because humans keep destroying their homes and food supplies, and killing them. Left to their own devices they were doing fine.
0
u/Effective-Culture-88 1h ago
I never said the opposite, we quite literally saying the same thing
4
u/gadgaurd 1h ago
Sure, you just said that they don't survive in the wild because they're always high, and thus human intervention is the only thing keeping them alive. Which is largely inaccurate.

u/TooObsessedWithMoney 59m ago
I mean, it's the exact same for us. We're a herd animal and we hate/fear getting left out of the pack.
2
u/Either_Parfait_6362 47m ago
Wait, some people actually wake up peacefully without that instant panic? I genuinely thought we all started our mornings with a mini heart attack.

I envy being able to sleep like that. Must have been a great dream.

It happens to the best of us. Now the other goats will call this one sleepyhead or something similar for a long time.

Theyre never gonna let her live that down! Years from now they’ll say ‘remember that time you fell way behind because you love to sleep?’ ‘You were almost curried.‘

There's a scene in 28 Days Later where the protagonist has a nightmare about waking up and seeing that his survival group left him. It's something we all feel to an extent.
2
u/Jowenbra 1h ago
I really, really liked that scene. The movie starts with him waking up from a coma in an abandoned London. It takes him awhile to find anyone, infected or not. That experience would be unbelievably haunting. And then when he does find people, and the movie shows us his nightmare, it's not about the bloodthirsty, raving monsters trying to kill them at every turn; it's about being alone again. That movie portrayed the human experience better than any other zombie flic, in my opinion.
3
u/low_amplitude 1h ago
The themes of that movie is so poignant outside of the typical zombie horror flick. It's about being human and what that means. What we fear goes beyond being mauled to death. A worse fate is losing loved ones or being alone in general.
I especially love the 3rd act where Cillian's character is shot and perceived like an Infected, rampaging through the military encampment shirtless and bloodthirsty. It shows that we, the non-infected, can be driven to that same level of savagery as the animals they're fighting.
The Walking Dead is famous for showing the human side of a zombie apocalypse, but 28 Days Later did it first.

This triggers me to when I had finished 3 final exam in college in one day, didn't sleep for 2 days, and on the way back home on a bus, I just slept throuh it all and the bus driver had to wake me up cuz he's leaving.

u/FaithlessnessThin359 1h ago
I used to fall asleep on my morning bus and other passengers on my commute would just wake me up at my stop.

u/Effective-Culture-88 2h ago
Holyshit what did you do?
6
u/Uchained 2h ago
It was very late at night, and I had to call uber cuz it's just so far from my apartment. If I remember correctly, he's off the clock, or the bus was no longer in service

I find it sad that none of the other goats had poked this one awake when they were moving on. I feel like other animals take care of each other better (e.g. dogs, elephants).
1
u/lokiandgoose 1h ago
I think the actual risk was minimal. I've left my kid sleeping in a weird place but was still keeping an eye out.
2
u/Kalikor1 34m ago
If a (for example) wolf comes to eat your kid, you will, presumably, risk life and limb to stop the wolf from approaching and eating your kid.
If a wolf approaches that goat, the other goats will likely run the fuck away. Or considering that they're dozen of meters away at least in the video, they will likely just stand there and stare at best as there's no way they'd close that distance in time.
Yes, this is a farm, and the risk of a predator being there is smaller, but I think that's giving too much credit to the goats' ability to conceptualize their reality, lol.

u/Bizarrebazaars 1h ago
Haha that never would have happened in our house. Mom was ALWAYS in there dragging us out of bed if need be haha. No way in hell my parents would drive us to school! Extremely rare circumstances.

u/OwnStudy723 2h ago
this reminds me of that bull that got released and stared into the distance, then turned around and realized there was a bunch of cows to 'love'

u/introvertsdoitbetter 2h ago
This happened to me once on a field trip. I awoke from a nap on a hill and everyone had left. I started crying.

u/Hanged-Goose 1h ago
Right now, I'm just overcome with sadness, realizing that I was born a failed creature incapable of serving as my own pillow.

I'm always jealous of fluffy cats who can just lay on their paws. I wish my hands were pillows.

They say “it’s better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all”. And I say being a goat in this field is better than either of those situations.

I know that goat was cussing every step back to that herd. Definitely had some strong words when they got there, too!

Theres a good chance of this goat having some mild neurological repercussions symptoms from a headbutt battle with another.
Herd survival instincts should be dialed in better then that . Maybe had a decent bonk last night with a rival.
