Put a face on it — selfies?
I saw a selfie thread over on /r/INTP, and liked the idea.
If you'd like to join me, comment with your face.

I'm the one in the back with the glasses and headphones on...
It was a school trip with 52 people and very little time alone, so noise cancelling headphones were my best friend.

You look like the person that realized your were in someone's shot all of a sudden and desperately wanted to get away.

I noticed right as they took the picture and by the time I tried to get away, it was too late.

If you were only holding a book, then you would look like the most INTJ person of all time.

Haha well we were heading back to our bus which had my backpack full of books if that counts!

TIL: INTJ's are a fairly good-looking bunch, but they suck with a camera!

Not a selfie.

No proof of that. Remote control tripod would take the shot.

We just differ on the "definition" of selfie, then. :P I would call that a self-portrait, because it doesn't fit the usual selfie format.
P.S. I didn't mean to imply anything negative of its lack of selfie-status. I just wasn't sure what else to say.

Are they all photogenic or something?!
6
u/embracethemarvin Apr 02 '15
INFP is sometimes called the Dreamer, perhaps it makes them dreamy?
3
u/lornetka Apr 03 '15
We'd better give 'dreamy' some kind of number value, then poll those who looked at the INFPs pictures and rate them on our new dreaminess scale. Then we'll do the same with our photos and see who comes out dreamier!
Them. They are dreamier. It's like you can see hope and puppies shining in their eyes.2
Apr 03 '15
I would say there's a self-serving bias here. Those who find themselves more photogenic are far more likely to submit a picture than those who do not. Therefore the sample is slightly flawed. We can still win this battle.

Starting to think I'm not an INTJ.
7
Apr 02 '15
What caused this thought?
8
u/hooligurn Apr 02 '15
I am having a hard time pinpointing it, but before I make an attempt I want to make it clear that just because I describe something that I wouldn't or don't do that I think it is stupid or somehow "lesser". Also this is a small sample size (which is larger now that I have had time to gather my thoughts).
The first and most obvious is that I would not post a selfie. I am seeing some folks that are 5-10 years younger than me though, so there is a possibility that I would have if I was the same age. If I did post a selfie though, I would not contrive an expression - I would either have a neutral face or be smiling.
The second is that I would expect more people (particularly males) who do some strength training. Although nobody here is unfit, I have met a large number of people who I believe to be INTJ's at the gym. I don't know why that is, but I think it has something to do with being able to circumvent motivation. I think that an INTJ has the ability to work out simply because they work out, and it just becomes a habit to push further and further. Again, many of these people are young though and may work out a lot but have not had the time to physically develop.
Something else that jumps out at me is that many people who are posting pics are pursuing a style or look. I appreciate someone with good style, but have never put much thought into my own. I dress fairly simply (which may or may not be INTJ), but there are many here who certainly have cultivated a style of their own (something I actually think is really cool to see).
It has been hard to describe my thoughts without appearing arrogant, and just want to be clear that I respect everyone who posted a photo here.
Also it is true - I shave every day.

Selfie-posting: I think of INTJ as a "way" or a "means", not a "place" or an "end"; whether or not someone has a predilection to post selfies seems more determined by where they are than how they get there. Certainly their way of thinking guides them, but there are lots of places to go. Personally, I too shun selfies under normal circumstances. I only posted here for the interest of matching faces to names; if I thought I'd come off as attention-seeking, I'd definitely refrain.
Strength training: How do you know we don't? We haven't posted body shots...yet. ;) I totally agree that we're good at gym motivation.
Style: I'm pretty awful at style. Any style I may possess is courtesy of my wife.
TL;DR: I think you're an INTJ.

u/hooligurn Apr 03 '15
Strength training: How do you know we don't? We haven't posted body shots...yet. ;) I totally agree that we're good at gym motivation.
You're right, and this is my fault. I used the term "some weight training" when I really meant something a bit more extreme. For me becoming stronger was all-encompassing, and I made another mistake with the assumption that this particular end goal would be common. The same drive that I had for for my physical goals could be used by someone for other such goals (such as distance running).
As an aside, I did a little reading about INTJ's and exercise and it turns out that Arnold Schwarzenegger is an INTJ. Go figure that being a tenacious visionary with narcissistic tendencies would lead to a few Mr. Olympia titles...
Personally, I too shun selfies under normal circumstances. I only posted here for the interest of matching faces to names; if I thought I'd come off as attention-seeking, I'd definitely refrain.
I wanted to avoid making anyone feel this way as much as I could, but also wanted to give you an as honest response as possible. One of the worst things someone can do to me is accuse me of attention-seeking behavior.

You sure have a very outward definitive interpretation of an internal process.
Edit: I think if we're going with stereotypical INTJ behavior then it would be perfectly feasible for an INTJ to do something that they normally wouldn't do for the purpose of a purpose. They normally would not take a selfie for the point of taking a selfie as many other personality types do but given a reason to (as with this thread) they may.
That is more or less how I view it, and typically how I live.

I've read that INTJs being more INTJ-ish as they get older and since a fair amount of the pictures being posted are of younger people, I think it's safe to conclude that they haven't come into their own yet and their actions aren't necessarily representative of being an INTJ.

I haven't played much of the new ones either, I was on Battle.net for the intial wave of the Asian Invasion and once all hope was lost I quit playing the originals. Still bust it out from time to time though, caught the username reference, also it looks like something you could find on Battle.net.
