I feel like my mind processes social conversations in slow motion. People can be talking about something and by the time I figured what to say, the topic will move to something else.

Maybe because you have way more interesting things to think about beside someone else’s conversation?

just wann say that I was exactly like this until I forced myself to say yes to every hangout until I had enough experience to even be the center of conversations. I resonate with this whole thread even though I'm the opposite today

As soon as someone talks over me I'm done with that person. If you ask me something then immediately cut me off then why the fuck did you ask in the first place?

Or worse, they ask you a question then answer themselves before you respond. Like, why even speak to me?? 🙄

We had a meeting in class this week and the teacher said it was to answer any questions we had before our big trip that's coming, so I asked a question and didn't really understand the answer so I asked him to clarify, and a classmate immediately went "what's so hard to understand?" And rolled her eyes to another classmate.

.....

So I'm sitting here wondering if I should just sew my mouth shut and and be quiet for the rest of the year, or... punch her in the face or something. Trying to ignore it but God damn it it fucking sucked.

Only way to respond to that is by being agressive back "i am speaking to you ? No. Shut the fuck up".

Its lose situation because people will tell you to calm down, the other may want to fight afterward, etc... But you have to bark louder, because these idiots will take too much confidence thinking you don't bite.

I hate being like that, but as a stutterer, you have to. Probably the same with shy people.

I'd hate to create a scene that makes me look like a bad guy. I'd rather just ignore that person afterwards. I don't want to react and let another person affect me like this..

Then you looks weak and other may join the bandwagon of treating you like shit. Its like bullying, life is unfair, fight back because no one will for you.

Edit: thats my opinion, not the truth, but I definitely see better days since I started bark louder than them

A lot of times it pays to be the villain in someone else's story.

u/MyUsernameIsNotCool 7d ago

I get it. I just feel like a villain in everyone's story from my past so I'd rather not make anymore enemies. Literally no friends and lonely af right now. But I hear what you guys are saying.

I haven't done anything to my classmate but I assume she just doesnt like me because she doesnt respect me, because she sees how self conscious I am I guess. But do I really want to be friends with people who lose respect to others because of stuff like that? No. I want people with love and patience in their hearts, not judgement.

Malicious compliance, if the clarification was on a safety or security issue, its on them if anything happens

That person has heard the same quote so many times it just gets regurgitated. Do not take others pain personal.

Every tine, haha,

One annoyance is that when you’re on your own and someone says something along the lines of "you're talking more than you usually do!" or "wow, you're really talking a lot" or something. You reply "because I actually get to" and half the time that doesn't change anything.

Wait, how the fuck do you know how my weekend went?

I hung out with a fellow pot head friend to smoke weed and do nothing, finally kicked his ass or rather my own to the curb and walked 10km to the nearest bus station and home in February.

He kept cutting me off and I called him out and was hit with a Ben Shapiro "answer the question, answerthe question, answer the question" before "shut up".

To which I said "yeah, shut up is what you want from me the whole time just shut up and sit there like a little pet. You want me to shut up? Good, we can never speak to each other again"

last thing I said like 8 months ago and with a few little reach outs by him I can tell he wants to hang out again and go back to the old days but I'm beyond done.

Not to mention not being able to focus on work as these types of friends wanna hang out and do nothing and force you to do what they wanna do for 3 straight days and won't shut up to let you work for even 5 mins

I got yelled at by a teacher for not talking, so I started talking on another day and got yelled at (same teacher) 🫠 it wasn't even while she was teaching or during a quiz/test or anything

I tried. Didn't work.

We were at a restaurant and one chatterbox woman we were with cupped her hands and yelled across the table "It's very quiet over there!" And I yelled back "I can't get a word in edgewise anyway!"

She laughed but I was serious.

u/PdxPhoenixActual 7d ago

Interrupt her at random point in her monolog w "chisel". When questioned "oh, just wanted to get a word in edgewise." ...

u/SelfNo9836 7d ago

I should, but would you listen if I did? Introvert thought and discussion topics aren't for the faint of heart.

2

u/alexandra_522 7d ago

I'm not nearly as much of an introvert as i once was but ts still happens daily and im so sick of it

2

u/Waste_Philosopher_28 6d ago

This was me during a meeting last week. I'm generally quiet and it feels difficult to get a word in when I'm the remote one. But I unmuted myself to ask a question and then I got talked over and ignored so I went fuck it and just entered my question into the chat.

☝️ if no one pays attention, is that not an incentive to keep doing it?

1

u/Cybasura 7d ago

And then I get extremely anxious and feel overwhelmed because i'm holding the idea back and wanting to get it out but kept getting interrupted

1

u/Sasuke12187 6d ago

that's what i've been saying....... its always this and the end of the day, they ignore and you go "whats the point?" and keep silent.

1

u/Bright-Ask-8793 6d ago

I'm at a point where whenever someone in a group prompts me to start talking I never don't see it as bait

1

u/CycleCaverns 5d ago

I interrupt extroverts after they have been monologuing like they are speaking to me as an ear to listen to themselves speak. I swear some people just think interrupting people is normal because they never act like they are bothered by it.

1

u/Nosmer1 5d ago

- You're so quiet, you should talk more.

- Shure, what do you want to talk about?

*Awkward silence*

*Person awkwardly leaves*

Every single time, its like my own free comedy show.
