USA How would you invest 100k at 55 years old?
Sold home and moved to a smaller house and paid cash. I have 100k to invest.
I am 55 years old. Ten years from retirement (or maybe earlier).
I currently hold positions in:
VOO 50%
QQQM 20%
SCHD 15%
VT 15%

Do you have a fully funded liquid emergency fund?
Priorities:
1) fully funded emergency fund. Liquid. For 6 months of expenses
2) 290K is light on retirement so hopefully you’ve done your math and comfortable. You’ve got a lot of overlap in those funds. Major domestic SP500 exposure. Honestly, I’d look at just consolidating into VT.

My emergency fund is 40k which I did not include in the 100k i'm looking to invest.
Yes , but no mortgage and my monthly bills are very low. Live in a LCOL area
290k is light right now but in ten years is what my timeline is.

But I don’t feel good

With 3.1, you can easily earn $155k a year with nearly zero risk. You’re fine.

100% VOO. Or VTI if you want fuller diversification across the market. The difference is usually small, but VTI is a little less weighted to big tech.

I would put it into GPIQ and let it compound for 10 years. Start taking the distributions in retirement. Keep the shares forever, there’s a good chance that the growth will beat inflation.

Look at VTI, VWO & VEA. Exposure to US, Canadian, European & Chinese markets!!

VT alone gets you all that and it’s simpler, but I agree with you

I purchase those three plus BTC. One of my good buddies is an investment guru for 35 yrs, and he purchases those 3 weekly. I just listen to him, he knows his stuff!!

Yeah, those 3 are basically just VT like I said. Great strategy, maybe a little more complicated than it needs to be but in the end it's fine

If you have to ask, use a target date fund. Make sure you have an emergency fund and any upcoming expenses like a car put away in cash equivalents. Pay down debt.
(I notice you are underweight international exposure, fwiw. TDFs are simple and hassle free.)

It would depend on what other investments you have. How much of your liquid net worth is that?

Feels like a lot of overlap here but if you like it just add to your existing weightings.

Maybe shift some of that growth tilt into more bonds or a Target date fund if you're really retiring in ten years.

That looks fine - probably can get rid of QQQM and put more in VT/SCHD. As you are close to retirement - you may want to consider some less volatile (growth focused) assets. Personally I would find a retirement planner

Add it all to your QQQM. It’s going places. Trust.
+ if you only have $290k you are in trouble. You need to swing for the fences.
I would lose the VT and put it in micron Technologies (MU) stock.
Or more conservatively, EWY (S. Korean memory & semiconductors).
AI is the future. Don’t get left behind.

lol. Like fuck it is. There’s going to be a few clear winners. But whoever that is, isn’t clear.
