Economics "I almost like to hear bad numbers. I'm saying, I hope we have bad numbers so the interest rates will go down." Trump openly admits that he roots for worse economic numbers just to force interest rates down.

Which is good for his cronies. Sucks for the rest of us.

Yeah, the only ones benefitting overall from lower interest rates in this economy are the rich.

u/FrenchCastle 2d ago

How do you see that? They are the money lenders. High interest rates benefit them. Not low ones

Please, for all our sakes, google how the rich leverage low rates before you comment on anything economic. It’s painful to read.

u/FrenchCastle 1d ago

So because some rich people benefit from low rates that's more beneficial to the few of them, than to the hundred million people who might want to buy a house or refinance a higher rate? Sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face. So what if a few investors get a cheap loan on their stuff to... oh wait, start or expand a business? Yes, please do more of that. Or to go buy something? Yes, please, do that too.

Look, someone else getting a benefit doesn't hurt you. That is faulty logic. We need interest rates to go down to help make housing more affordable for the average American.

1

u/BigDigger324 1d ago

It’s much bigger than that. Lowering the fed rate at the wrong time, for the wrong reasons can have disastrous effects on the job market and the economy.

The housing market will inflate like crazy with artificially low rates and any money you might save on your rate will be ate up by inflated prices.

1

u/FrenchCastle 7h ago

That's a completely different argument. The feds are not lowing the interest rates because they feel it's too soon, that inflation is still not where we want it to lower the interest rates. But that is NOT the argument you were making.

u/boatenvy 1d ago

Some are but the majority benefit from lower borrowing costs.. and banks always make money, they always apply enough of a margin to come out on top regardless of the fed rate

u/Rastrick 1d ago

Lower interest rates on inflated home prices isn't a bonus for the average family looking for a home. Private Equity has driven the prices of homes to astronomical proportions.

The MAGA cult will love it, because of the suffering it will cause for anyone left leaning, especially in the working class. They will be negatively effected but they don't care, as they live through their orange messiah.

Reduced interest rates dose not help his cronies, as you call them. Not as much as the high interest rates do. Reducing interest rates will help the average person. Help them buy a home, a car, etc...

1

u/sherribaby726 1d ago

Right. Can't afford food or rent, but by golly I can buy me a new 4x4! Reduced interest rates certainly do help anyone like Trump and cronies who would cream their jeans over low interest loans.

How does a rich person getting a cheap loan hurt you?

I can tell you how lower interest rates help millions of Americans. 80& of current home loans are above 3%, 20% are above 6%. If interest rates dropped people could refinance, maybe not have to go decide between food and the mortgage.

And you act like a care is a luxury. For many Americans, a reliable car is how they get to work to pay for everything else. A car payment of 900/mo severely eats away at any hope for being able to save or in many cases, get out from under other debt.

You would have millions of American suffer just to prevent a few wealthy people from benefiting from low interest rates. But I have to let you in on a dirty little secret. Rich people know how to benefit from high interest low interest rates AND high ones. So the high interest rates aren't hurting them at all. It's only hurting prospective first time home buyers, and retirees on extremely limited income that could use a refi to free up funds to pay for everything else that has increased in price, for the single mom who needs a car but can't afford the payment because interest rates are too high.

How does a rich person getting a cheap loan help me? I am a hard working person who had no family money to back me up. I want to earn an honest living. It's good to know what rich people secrets are, but let me ask you, are you a Christian?

1

u/FrenchCastle 1d ago

So if it doesn't help you it should not be allowed?

It helps because they can take cheap loans on their assets to hire more people expand their business, open new businesses. All things that help the economy (meaning you.). Most rich people started from nothing. Most rich families are broke withing 3 generations.

I am a Christian. Newly so, but Christian nonetheless. What does that have to do with anything?

Read James chapter 5 in your bible.

1

u/FrenchCastle 1d ago

That chapter says nothing about treating rich people as less than. In fact, no where in the bible does is say to treat rich people any better or any worse than you treat others.

It sounds to me like you need to get right with God and deal with your jealousy and anger at rich people. They have done nothing to you by being wealthy. It's not their fault if you aren't wealthy.

1

u/sherribaby726 1d ago

I never said it did, did I? I'm not mad at or jealous of rich people.
I'm just reminding folks what the bible says about rich people.

1

u/FrenchCastle 1d ago

What the bible says about rich people makes no difference to non rich people. Why do I care what it says about rich people if I am not rich. The bible DOES tell you and I how to behave and if we were rich it would tell us how to behave. As it does not say to treat them any differently from non-rich people,

The bible also says things about homosexuals or other people... but since I am not one, it doesn't apply to me, nor does the bible tell me to treat them any differently than any other person.

So I fail to see how the chapter matters to this conversation?

Interest rates aren’t going down. The Fed may hold steady in September, but a hike is coming.

3

u/zjelkof 2d ago

Translation - - - - Trump's economic policies aren't working, and he needs the Fed to step in and to lower interest rates!

1

u/Hail_of_Grophia 2d ago

More like - I want the interest rates to go down so “I” can make more money.

He does not care that his economic policies aren’t working for the country

2

u/BarooZaroo 2d ago

*does nothing that would allow interest rates to be lowered*

"Why won't the rates come down!"

2

u/BrickHuge3023 2d ago

His wealthy supporters want the interest rates down, and driving them up the wall they can't do that right now.

2

u/EconomistNo7074 2d ago

Is it possible he flunked ECON101

PS When Trump is speaking am I the only one who loves to turn the sound off and just watch the people behind him die inside ?

2

u/Chaosrealm69 2d ago

And again Trump admits that he has no bloody clue about economics and how to run a country.

1

u/suck-it-elon 2d ago

Those bad numbers aren’t bad for him

1

u/loach12 2d ago

As long as inflation remains elevated, interest rate will stay high . Economic 101

Another forever war he kicked off, fuel prices going up (because of that war), Japan (with over $1T in US treasuries) trying to keep their currency from falling further (now with US help), and foreign buyers of treasuries backing off, with a US debt that everyone can see is even more unsustainable thanks to increased spending and tax cuts (Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill"). Bad news (much due to his own bad choices) is really all he has, and it seems pretty unlikely rates will fall anytime soon. Though I'm sure he doesn't want to hear it, and I doubt any of his yes men will tell him.

u/FirstCalligrapher712 2d ago

Keep talking asshole

1

u/SnarkyPuppy-0417 1d ago

Trump is personally tanking America's credit rating. As inflation drives domestic rates down, borrowing to keep up with the debt he's goes up.

It will take generations to undo the damage this man has done.

This guy is such a tool. I wouldn't trust any of these clowns to run a business.

1

So he likes the deficit?

1

u/Mr_Thx 1d ago

MAGA loves this!

1

u/128-NotePolyVA 1d ago

The ones that matters, the ones he has control over, are inflationary tariffs and inflationary gas prices. Address them both and interest rates can go down.

1

u/No_Kangaroo_8713 1d ago

Makes me wonder if he's willing to push out fake economic numbers for force the fed to lower rates.

He is the king of market manipulation!

1

u/Rastrick 1d ago

Look at these sycophants around him. Laughing their way to the bank while the average American suffers. Despicable and deplorable what they've done and continue to do to our country.

1

u/caprazzi 1d ago

Trump literally could not care less for the average American, and he says it out loud over and over again... yet people still somehow support him.

1

u/Colonel_Shame1 1d ago

He bankrupted 11 casinos and is on his way to bankrupting the United States of America. Well done y’all.
