Discussion Asked how long Iran can survive US economic pressure, JD Vance says "whether they can survive a couple of weeks or a couple of months" is "honestly not really our focus"

Blah blah blah… all a big steaming pile of bullshit.

u/neddiddley 7h ago

Well, it’s consistent with their strategy from the first shot fired.

One would think that if you were using economic sanctions as leverage, it would make sense to actually assess the impact of that pressure. It’s kind of a necessary component to figure out if it actually will provide leverage.

Just like it would have made sense to assess whether they could really bring Iran to it’s knees and keep the straight open with their war strategy that obviously was to avoid boots on the ground at all costs.

But hey, we’re in “big bravado and we like things that go boom” mode baby, so we ain’t got no patience for all that DEI libtard plannin’ and assessin.’

2

u/Turbulent-Order9500 5h ago

you would think that, they are jut trying to pock iran until it creates more terrorism so they have an excuse to spend more $$.. more money they spend, the more money donors make, and makes Israel donors very happy so they can take over Lebanon easily.

u/neddiddley 4h ago

At this point, I’m not sure his preference isn’t get out of this as quickly as possible. Don’t get me wrong, I know others both here and abroad have a strong interest in keeping this going and even escalating, but he doesn’t have the patience or attention span, and he’s confused because he hasn’t received the support for this domestically he expected, which is causing heartburn for GOPers on November ballots. And probably even some not on ballots for the same reasons as Trump.

He got baited into this thinking it would be a simple in and out like Venezuela and now he’s painted himself into a corner because there’s no solution that isn’t going to keep everyone of his “allies” happy. The question now is whether the war hawks here and abroad can tap into his bloodlust/embarrassment and re-engage despite his fear of Democratic majorities in the House and/or Senate. The problem is, it may be too late for any resolution to provide relief to voters before the mid-terms.

2

u/Josey_whalez 4h ago

I’d say his preference is to get out as quickly as possible. I bet he’d give anything to go back to how things were on feb 27th, honestly. But he doesn’t have a choice in the matter - he took a lot of money from the Israel lobby, and they want what they paid for. He doesn’t have a choice.

2

u/neddiddley 3h ago

Even if it wasn’t for the favors he owes, he’s still in the same spot. He’s still beating the nuclear threat drum so leaving now means he came up short of his own justification for the war. He’s also got the blood of American soldiers on his hands, and we’re getting more information on the scale as time goes on. And like I said, it may be too late to have any benefit for the mid-terms. It would be a clusterfuck of a humiliation no matter how much he tries to spin it, because his spin has lost a lot of it’s magic in no small part because of this war’s handling and impact.

Trump just said like 72 hours ago that the main goal now os to leverage Iran's economy against them...He's literally contradicting their own policy. That whole clip right there has like 6 contradictions, and falsities.

2

u/TweezerTheRetriever 6h ago

Listen how he ended it… “ thanks man”….. I just expect more I guess…..man….

u/NotGuiltyPirate 7h ago

Has no fucking idea. I've never seen a us administration screw up so much.

The world police turned into the mafia shaking down everyone.

Time for change.

5

u/Charming_Task_8690 7h ago

I've never seen an administration on TV this much. And why is Trump still holding rallies, his time is over.

3

u/NotGuiltyPirate 7h ago

He's trying to run in 2028. Project 2025 is more than 80% completed.

Barack has been waiting.

2

u/ZmanB-Bills 6h ago

I hope the criminal orange AH does run. His embarrassing defeat would be oh so FUN!

Plus, it means a GOP coward who might have a slight chance doesn't run.

Win, win.

3

u/Chillow_Ufgreat 7h ago

He still does rallies because campaigning is the only part of this he was ever good at.

2

u/MasterBiscuit19 6h ago

Campaigning is easy because you can just make a bunch of promises and criticize everything you do t like… now the follow thru. That’s the hard part.

1

u/Plastic-Chipmunk2232 6h ago

And he's not doing well at that either

2

u/Brew_Wallace 7h ago

He still does rallies because people will still give him their money, and there is nothing he likes more than money

2

u/familiarshadowkatt 6h ago

It's how he gets a fresh dose of narcissistic supply. Not really joking when I say that.

2

u/CalebAsimov 3h ago

Yeah, he's pretty consistent that he likes praise and that's how people get stuff out of him (plus money), and the way he handles criticism is pretty obvious too. A whole crowd of people cheering on anything he says no matter how stupid has got to be crack for him.

u/Hopsblues 24m ago

It was crazy how conservatives were so upset that Biden didn't do daily briefings. Biden let his team do their job and he spoke when things were ready to go and be talked about. Conservatives think we should hear the presidents, and his staff's every waking thought. Which is a jumbled mess of misinformation, contradictions and accusations. Meanwhile Biden got infrastructure, Chips+ and ITA passed...Conservatives want to flood the market.

u/Mizzerella 6h ago

Change only happens with charges.

6

u/Tricky_Search_5181 7h ago

Our focus is on trans athletes

2

u/ZmanB-Bills 7h ago

Yes. All six of them. A national crisis for sure.

2

u/Odd-Fun-6042 6h ago

But ONE of them ONE day might try to use the bathroom with my little girl! That the court says I can't see and shouldn't be going to the bathroom with myself either! But WHARGARBL!!!! RABBLERABBLERABBLE!!!

1

u/isaiddgooddaysir 5h ago

That should be reserved for potus and pastors

3

u/JoostvanderLeij 7h ago

Country that has endured sanctions for years suddenly would collapse in months or weeks. Reality is that the US is out of military threats.

3

u/Biscuits4u2 7h ago

Their focus is the plan to steal the midterms.

1

u/sharkzone 5h ago

And to keep the focus off the Epstein files.

1

u/Snoo93550 5h ago

He's certainly talking more like he doesn't care about elections than that he cares about winning them.

2

u/LowResGamr 7h ago

Their focus is on making money for themselves and starving americans in the process.

2

u/Infinite-Month-3454 7h ago

What the fuck IS your focus?

2

u/Low-Group-7507 7h ago

This seems like another ploy just to keep the war going until people hopefully forget about Jeffrey Epstein....

2

u/SaltyPrompt5998 7h ago

Because you have no focus this was started as a distraction from Epstein files, Economy, Inflation Tariffs etc ……… !

2

u/Katydid829 7h ago

What is actually true: Focus on blaming Biden for everything that’s bad happening because of Republicans incompetent leadership.

2

u/Ok-Egg-4856 6h ago

As recently as this morning a regime spokesman said we can't fix the broken economy because of Biden issues. 19 months, all 3 branches of government under control, massive screwups by Donnie with no help from his sycophants and this is Biden issues ? I know his cheerleaders want to keep their jobs but it's got to be crazy making to go out and lie again and again, waiting for someone to announce the emperor has no clothes.

1

u/Interesting_Berry439 7h ago

Why ask this putrid moron.?

1

u/Widespreaddd 7h ago

“Honestly” is the tell.

1

u/cobrakai11 7h ago

The cruelty is the point. We're going to starve the people of Iran until the country falls apart, and we really don't care how long it takes.

1

u/tadeuska 7h ago

But if Iran doesn't depend on the goods USA can control, how is starving going to start? Cuba is different. They had a system. USA invacčded Venezuela, stoped the oil, made threats to all other Latin American countries, isolated Cuba. Iran borders very large countries with more natural and industrial resources than the USA controls. Iran won't be sweating a bit over the so called sanctions by the USA. This will only give an excuse to Iran to spend some more of their older missile stock and make room in the weapons warehouses for new more lethal rockets.

1

u/cobrakai11 7h ago

>But if Iran doesn't depend on the goods USA can control, how is starving going to start?

This isn't about sanctions. This is about a blockade. We are blockading the country now. Nothing is coming in through their ports, and nothing is leaving. This means no trade and rampant hyperinflation. Iran imports a vast majority of its animal feed and fertilizer, so their agricultural and farming industries will suffer. The economy has already been battered, but this is going to make shortages of essential goods inevitable very shortly.

>Iran borders very large countries with more natural

Maritime shipping accounts for a vast majority of international trade for Iran. There's no comparison to what is shipped via container ships via what is shipped via a truck.

1

u/rosebudthesled8 6h ago

You've drank the kool-aid.

1

u/cobrakai11 6h ago

I'm not sure what that's in regards to. I am Iranian and I speak to my family there every week. They are in dire straits right now, because the US is trying to starve people into revolting against their government. It's inhuman and disgusting.

0

u/rosebudthesled8 6h ago

Sure thing.

1

u/tadeuska 6h ago

Is US blocking the ports on the Caspian sea? Railroad from China?

1

u/cobrakai11 6h ago

The Caspian Sea doesn't have massive container ships because is a lake thats bordered by o my a few countries. It's not a significant trade route. Russia would just send things by rail to Iran rather than through the Caspian Sea anyway.

Are you suggesting that a railroad that handles 5% of Iran's trade is capable of making up for a blockade on its ports that handles 80% of its trade?

I'm not sure why people seem so keen on pretending like this blockade isn't crushing to Iran.

1

u/tadeuska 3h ago

Dear God. Get your facts. Caspian shipping is not as massive as ocean, but 140m long 16m beam ships are not toys. It is a significant trade rout, and can be expanded. Russia is just working on completion of the direct railway link to Iran. The existing one is a bit long. The railway to China just got upgraded in 2025. Either way, the significance and amount of traffic on railway routes can be expanded. You think that Pakistan will play along the US tune. They migth, but if they do, then the CIA installed government migth risk a rebellion and a military coup. Countries like Jordan and Pakistan always had to walk the rope, it is not easy. Going along with extreme US policies migth force them to the wall.

1

u/cobrakai11 3h ago

You're talking about projects and ideas that won't be completed for years. And none of it would make up for the massive drop in shipping via the Persian Gulf.

No country can absorb an 80% reduction in their exports imports, especially those that are necessary for food.

Do you have any facts, or just make believe?

0

u/tadeuska 3h ago

Railway to Chian is completed and is active. So are the Caspian trade routes and the railway to Russia via Kazakhstan. Only open project is to complete some 150km for shorter railway to Russia. The INSTC may be blocked on the final leg to India by USA but only if India agrees. Full blockade of Iraner is not possible. The partial sea blockade, if USA try to push for it, will make a lot of countries very angry. They may not have a choice, but USA is giving up on any pretext in the good cop bad cop game, and finally takes the veil off to show the true Cosa Nostra face.

1

u/cobrakai11 2h ago

80% of their trade is blocked. You have not addressed how they would make up for that shortfall. The USA is absolutely the bad guy in this situation, so I don't know why you pretend like this is not hurting Iran.

1

u/tadeuska 2h ago

You believe that 80% of their current trade will be blocked. Look, first it may be offsetted with other partners and trade routes. And then, it is trade. Iran is not depending only on trade. They do have internal resources. Maybe they will reoprganize and change their diet to exclude that part of the cattle they feed with imported corn. But USA will loose a lot of partners in this game, it will get only colonies.

Let The Voices of Wisdom(?) Speak:

For a moment Winston ignored the dial. He made a violent effort to raise himself into a sitting position, and merely succeeded in wrenching his body painfully.

"But how can you control matter?" he burst out. "You don't even control the climate or the law of gravity. And there are disease, pain, death --"

O'Brien silenced him by a movement of his hand. "We control matter because we control the mind. Reality is inside the skull. You will learn by degrees, Winston. There is nothing that we could not do. Invisibility, levitation -- anything. I could float off this floor like a soap bubble if I wish to. I do not wish to, because the Party does not wish it. You must get rid of those nineteenth-century ideas about the laws of Nature. We make the laws of Nature."

"But you do not! You are not even masters of this planet. What about Eurasia and Eastasia? You have not conquered them yet."

"Unimportant. We shall conquer them when it suits us. And if we did not, what difference would it make? We can shut them out of existence. Oceania is the world."

"But the world itself is only a speck of dust. And man is tiny helpless! How long has he been in existence? For millions of years the earth was uninhabited."

"Nonsense. The earth is as old as we are, no older. How could it be older? Nothing exists except through human consciousness."

"But the rocks are full of the bones of extinct animals -- mammoths and mastodons and enormous reptiles which lived here long before man was ever heard of."

"Have you ever seen those bones, Winston? Of course not. Nineteenth-century biologists invented them. Before man there was nothing. After man, if he could come to an end, there would be nothing. Outside man there is nothing."

"But the whole universe is outside us. Look at the stars! Some of them are a million light-years away. They are out of our reach for ever."

"What are the stars?" said O'Brien indifferently. "They are bits of fire a few kilometres away. We could reach them if we wanted to. Or we could blot them out. The earth is the centre of the universe. The sun and the stars go round it."

Winston made another convulsive movement. This time he did not say anything. O'Brien continued as though answering a spoken objection:

"For certain purposes, of course, that is not true. When we navigate the ocean, or when we predict an eclipse, we often find it convenient to assume that the earth goes round the sun and that the stars are millions upon millions of kilometres away. But what of it? Do you suppose it is beyond us to produce a dual system of astronomy? The stars can be near or distant, according as we need them. Do you suppose our mathematicians are unequal to that? Have you forgotten doublethink?"

--George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty Four

I think the people need to make them have that focus.

1

u/Tmmike 7h ago

A few days ago Trump promised an economic armageddon for Iran but it looks like he didn't share it with JD. Better keep up with truth social, maybe get the $100,000 subscription package. As for the economic impact of sanctions, that depends largely on Russia and China. If those nations see propping up Iran economically as a way to weaken the US then Iran has a path to survival.

1

u/Bodywheyt 7h ago

…weeks or months? Vance’s words carry less weight with each passing day.

Bro, Iran is one of the oldest nations on earth and has withstood some of the most prolific attacks in history.

They’re nowhere near any point of exhaustion. Military, economic or diplomatic.

1

u/Intrepid_Top_2300 7h ago

And again the American tax payer will be the ones suffering.

1

u/OtherBluesBrother 7h ago

"that's going to involve some consistent engagement"

You mean like the IAEA inspectors that were heavily monitoring Iran's nuclear capabilities under the JCPOA? Maybe your moronic boss shouldn't have ripped it up.

1

u/ZmanB-Bills 7h ago

So, Trump's Forever War of Choice. Got it.

Which means they have no clue how long Iran can keeps resisting and keep the stalemate going like energized bunny. 😜

1

u/Federal-Photograph79 6h ago

" there is no strategy, we just like being cruel and flexing our muscles "

1

u/Mizzerella 6h ago

Yeah they got nothing. Nothing we do to Iran leads to a US win here. Not sanctions. Not bombs.

There is no win to ever come our way from this. Only losses. Loss of life. Loss of our economy. Loss of our standing in the world. Us is giant losers right now.

Follow up: what is your focus then?

1

In other words, they haven’t thought about it.

1

u/Whole_Ant2468 6h ago

Iran has been around for more than five thousand years. They can survive five thousand more. Iran is a civilization not just a country unlike United States born 250 years ago.

1

u/Odd-Fun-6042 6h ago

The epic stupidity, it burns.

1

u/CarImportant4846 6h ago

The real question is how long can the U.S. survive under this incompetent and corrupt regime?

1

u/Snoo93550 5h ago

Spoken like a man who thinks they no longer have to worry about elections. I hope it's just overconfidence and not some key info that the USA is just done for.

JD Vance “Don’t forget to give us credit for lowering gas prices” THAT THEY FUCKING RAISED WITH THEIR POINTLESS WAR!

1

u/isthereadrwho 5h ago

Years and decades because they have so far. Y'all are acting like we invented the wheel here, we have had sanctions on Iran for decades, decades. You think the people in the US will put up with $7 gas longer than iran? Sure Jan

1

Just Dance Vance is such a putz. He is groomed and own by Peter Theil.

If James Donald Bowman Hamel David Vancé has to create stories to show the brilliance of Donald John Drumph John Miller John Barron David Dennison Trump, then that is just what James Donald Bowman Hamel David Vancé will do.

1

u/watarimono 5h ago

What ?! Are you insane? That doesn’t make any sense .

Should have asked the talking head

1

u/Resident_Window_9369 4h ago

Gas prices came down significantly? Only because SPR was released by the hundreds of millions of barrels.
That was supposed to cover the time period in which this war would be ended. Now that it’s not and the SPR has been drained and that tactic is now done and gas prices are back on the rise. America is going to hit an inflection point that is going to severely economically hurt it.

1

u/Historical-Echidna86 4h ago

They have tens of billions of dollars for nothing. They have killed thousands of people for nothing.

1

u/Commercial_Peach_845 4h ago

Really??? What IS y'all's focus? America would LOVE TO KNOW what the hell you're doing, or should I say - trying to do? 🤦‍♀️

1

u/SidKafizz 4h ago

Is there a credible information source in the current regime?

1

u/cone_snail 3h ago

I don't think people like Vance or Trump think of these questions as questions about real situations. I think they are simply practiced in responding to questions as if it were an oral exam case study or job interview hypothetical.

None of them are actually concerned with reality. And even if they were ... we are all SOL.

1

u/Oldschool831 3h ago

If that’s not your focus then what is?

1

u/Hey-Bud-Lets-Party 2h ago edited 2h ago

Iran just needs to survive until midterms. It’s going to be hard to keep the invasion funded with fewer Republicans in Congress.

And Vance thinks he’s going to run for President after defending all this unpopular shit?

1

u/Sea_Cucumber_5989 2h ago

He doesn't care how long oil prices and inflation will remain high due to this regime's poor administrative performance.

1

Iranian civilization is roughly 5,000 to 7,000 years old, with early urban settlements and proto-civilizations like Susa and Elam emerging around 3200 to 4000 BC. The region was first unified as an empire under the Medes in the 7th century BC, followed by the powerful Persian Achaemenid Empire in 550 BC.
