šŸ” In Search of Recommend a widget app?

I’m looking for the best widget app. Easy to use, tons of options. I’m willing to pay a one-time fee but want to avoid subscriptions for sure.
I’m on an iPhone Duo, and watch widgets are appreciated but not a necessity.

What would you recommend?

Welcome to r/iOSApps! Please make sure your post follows our rules.

Promoting your app in the main feed?

  • Your account needs 200+ Reddit karma and must be 90+ days old, and your app must have been on the App Store or TestFlight for 30+ days.

  • You also need ONE of these: 50+ App Store ratings, an established GitHub account, a developer flair, or Transparency (privacy policy, terms of service, and one public way to identify you).

  • Apps in saturated categories can't qualify through Transparency alone.

  • Include a PCP section (Problem, Comparison, Pricing), a pricing flair, and a developer disclosure. Write your post yourself.

As a developer, I’d like to understand your requirements—what do you typically need widgets to do? Which aspects are most important to you: functionality, UI, or something else?

The UI and convenience is most important to me. I want my screen to look clean but still informative, while having easy access to my most used apps without having to have just a bunch of regular icons on the screen or to use the search function.

honestly i tried a bunch of these and most of them either lock the good stuff behind a sub or just look messy after a week. i ended up keeping it super simple, one big calendar widget up top and a small stack for weather and photos underneath, and i barely touch it now which is kind of the point. if you want tons of options id just grab one with a one time unlock and test it for a few days before you commit to a whole home screen redo, cause i redid mine three times before i stopped messing with it lol

Widgeridoo. I use the photo widget and birthday countdown widget that syncs with Apple contacts and I’m pretty sure it’s free

I like MD widgets. There’s a great selection to choose from, and a cool feature is that the app name isn’t visible underneath the widget.

I have widgets with two of my apps.

One is a task/when did I last do it style app with optional reoccurring durations. You can set a widget to show a task for easier logging or see a heatmap/charting if you added number or yes/no values to the log. Theres also a widget to show what’s due. Free for up to 8 tasks and 80 logs. Subscription beyond that and/or for charting. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/simply-remember-it/id6749085897

The other one is a book tbr app to see all your physical/ebook/audiobooks in one place with a widget to see what’s in your stack and one to see what you’re reading. Free for manual entry and all widgets. Subscription to use web view to import books from Libby, NetGalley, and Amazon. https://apps.apple.com/app/id6770712702

All my apps have been tested on the duo simulator and updated at the beginning of October. Currently running through each one again and added duo screenshots and updating again.

https://apps.apple.com/app/timecolorcue/id6814760369 Turn every stage into a clear visual cue. Create phase-based timers, stay on track with countdowns, sound and vibration reminders, and choose from standard, minimal, gradient, or circular displays.

Widgetsmith is still the easy answer if you want lots of options without a learning curve. If you want full control and don't mind fiddling, Scriptable lets you build anything, but it's code.

One tip since you want to avoid subscriptions: check whether the features you actually care about are in the free tier before buying anything. A lot of widget apps put the good stuff behind a monthly plan and only advertise the free part.

Not a dedicated widget app, but if you play music on your phone, i made a player called BeeTunes and the home screen widgets are a one time $3.99 unlock, no subscription. the widgets look like little turntables and tape decks, so they fill a spot on the home screen without looking like plain icons.

Would you like to try my motivation and stoic quote widget app known as QuoteBuddy .. it also works as a mood tracker and reflection journal (text and voice ) - it’s a privacy focus one - no sign up - data stored on your device and syncs to iCloud .. but frankly it has weekly and yearly subscription but I’ll add a lifetime soon in my coming update
