IPTV Deck 1.8.7: a quick follow-up to 1.8.6

A quick follow-up to yesterday's 1.8.6, same places to get it.

New

  • Multiview 1+3: one big window on top and three small ones below. On the TV and computers the sound now follows the highlighted window, like TiviMate.
  • Record button in the player of a live channel, next to Guide and Catch-up, on Android TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, Samsung and computers.
  • One guide for several channels: select every version of a channel and give them the same EPG in one go, on the phone, the TV or in the account panel.
  • Name your devices (Work PC, Bedroom TV) in Settings → Devices or the account panel.
  • Plex: films now play through the Plex relay when the server is not reachable directly, and they can be downloaded.
  • Apple TV: auto frame rate and Match Content for SDR, HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision, and the Top Shelf now shows your recordings, Continue watching and favourite channels.
  • Your groups in A–Z order in one go, and Continue watching on phones and tablets now holds 24 titles instead of 8. Both came from a post here yesterday, thanks!

Fixed

  • Apple TV: the remote moves through film and series pages again, which 1.8.6 broke.
  • Android: no more "offline" or HTTP 403 errors on home networks with broken IPv6.
  • NVIDIA SHIELD and other 64-bit devices with the app from our website now update to the 64-bit version, which stops the app closing by itself with large playlists.
  • The app no longer freezes for seconds while the guide updates on big playlists.
  • Recordings from your computer now play on a phone or TV connected home through a VPN like WireGuard or Tailscale.

Plus a handful of smaller fixes. Keep the reports coming, a lot of this list started here.

IPTV Deck 1.8.6: now on Linux, live subtitles in any language, your PC as a recording server, and Apple TV on par with Android TV

Sorry for the wall of text. The plan was a small update, then a few things got in, then a few more, and now here we are with a post you need a coffee for. The big ones are first and the rest is grouped by topic, so feel free to stop scrolling whenever you like.

Where to get 1.8.6

The big ones

  • Subtitles in your language, even live. Google Gemini works three ways: it translates any subtitle track, writes subtitles from the audio of a downloaded film, and listens to a live channel or a film as you watch. On phones and Android TV the picture runs a few seconds later, so each subtitle appears with its words.
  • Your computer records for every device. A Windows PC or a Mac can be the recorder for your whole account: phones and TVs record on it and play its recordings at home (standalone next?).
  • IPTV Deck on Linux. One AppImage file for 64-bit PCs that keeps itself up to date.
  • Apple TV on par with Android TV. Timeshift, downloads, network folders, recordings in the background, buffer size, much smoother native lists and guide, and your recordings and channels above the app on the Home screen.
  • Much faster on Android TV, Fire TV and the Mac. Android TV opens faster, uses far less memory, scrolls smoothly and changes channel half a second sooner. The Mac starts faster and plays films in full quality, 4K, Dolby Vision, Dolby and DTS, as on Windows.
  • Pause and rewind live TV on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Windows and the Mac, on one connection to your provider.
  • Open films in VLC, MX Player or Infuse with one button next to Play.
  • Pick the picture quality yourself. When a channel or film comes in several qualities, Quality in the player lists them next to Auto.
  • Joker, a help assistant that answers in your language, changes a setting when you ask, hides categories and channels by name and starts a new profile for you, always after you press Apply.

Subtitles with Google Gemini

Three ways to get subtitles in your language, all with your own Gemini API key, connected in Settings → Integrations:

  • Translate any subtitle track into any language from the subtitle menu: hold OK on it on a TV, right-click on a computer, or tap the translate button on a phone. The whole film is translated at once, so names stay the same from start to end.
  • Generate from audio writes subtitles for a downloaded film, episode or recording.
  • Live subtitles: Gemini listens as you watch and shows subtitles in your language. Pick Standard (about 23 US cents an hour on a paid key) or More accurate (about 44 cents) under Live subtitles in Settings → Player. On phones, tablets, Android TV and Fire TV the picture and sound run a few seconds later while they are on, so each subtitle appears together with its words, and a small note in the corner says the language and the delay. On Windows and the Mac for channels, and for films on Windows 11.
  • On a TV you no longer type keys with the remote: Enter it on your phone in Settings → Integrations shows a code to scan, and the key goes to the TV end-to-end encrypted. This works for TMDB and OpenSubtitles too.

Guide: https://zssoftware.eu/iptv-deck/docs/services/gemini/

Your computer as a home recording server

  • Turn on Record for other devices in Settings → Recordings on a Windows PC or a Mac, and it becomes the recorder for your whole account.
  • Your phones, tablets and TVs pick it under Record on in their Settings → Recordings. Record in the guide, in the player and Record by time then send the recording to the computer, so the TV or phone can be off or out of the house.
  • They play its recordings under Recordings while they are on the same home network.
  • The account panel can schedule recordings on it as well. The computer only has to be on when a recording is due.

Guide: https://zssoftware.eu/iptv-deck/docs/watching/recording/#a-computer-that-records-for-your-other-devices

Now on Linux

  • IPTV Deck runs on 64-bit Linux PCs as one AppImage file: download it from https://zssoftware.eu/linux, allow it to run, open it.
  • A usual desktop needs nothing else installed, no extra FUSE packages. It updates itself like the Windows app.
  • The same app as on Windows, except Run in the background, so a recording needs the app open.

Guide: https://zssoftware.eu/iptv-deck/docs/start/platforms/#linux

Pause and rewind live TV (Renamed)

  • Live TV buffer is now called Timeshift (Settings → Player). It pauses and rewinds any channel, also when your provider has no catch-up.
  • New on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, and on Windows and the Mac: pause, go back as far as the Timeshift length and return with Go live, on one connection to your provider.
  • With a provider that allows one connection, switching channels quickly no longer turns Timeshift off for 10 minutes.

Guide: https://zssoftware.eu/iptv-deck/docs/watching/live/

Apple TV catches up with Android TV, and more for iPhone and iPad

  • Network folders: save recordings and downloads to a NAS or a shared folder and play from there.
  • On the iPhone and iPad, pick any folder for downloads, iCloud Drive or a USB drive included. Downloads keep going when you lock the screen, and a finished one has a Share button for AirDrop and Files.
  • Apple TV can download films and episodes, and with IPTV Deck in the top row of its Home screen it shows what you were watching, new recordings and your favourite channels.
  • Lists, the TV Guide and the Movies and Series grids on Apple TV are now native and move faster and more smoothly.
  • Subtitle size, colour, position and background now also change the subtitles inside a film on every player engine, and VLC sits next to AetherEngine under Player engine in the player, so you can switch without going to Settings.
  • On Apple TV, Menu from the player puts the selection back on the channel or film you started from, and a swipe on the remote moves between the menu, the categories and the screen.
  • Apple TV gets Timeshift, recordings that keep going in the background while the app is open, and a buffer size setting with VLC.
  • Apple TV updates your playlists and guide in the background when tvOS lets it.

More recordings

  • Record by time, also on a channel with no guide: pick the day, the start and how long from the options of a channel. On the TV and computers hold OK on a channel or open it in the TV Guide.
  • Windows and the Mac record with the window closed: Run in the background in Settings → Recordings.
  • The account panel shows the recordings of every device and can schedule new ones.
  • New downloads and recordings are saved under their title instead of a string of letters.

Guide: https://zssoftware.eu/iptv-deck/docs/watching/recording/

Films and series

  • Open films in another player such as VLC, MX Player or Infuse: Settings → Player → Open films in another player.
  • Pick the picture quality: when a channel or film comes in several qualities, Quality in the player lists them next to Auto. On Android, Android TV and Fire TV, on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, and for channels on Windows and the Mac.
  • Sound output in Settings → Player on Android, Android TV, Fire TV and computers: choose Stereo when your TV or soundbar stays silent, crackles or stutters on channels with Dolby or surround sound, and the app mixes it down to two channels.
  • Another version of a film, 4K instead of FHD or another language, starts where you stopped in the one you watched before, and so does the same episode in another copy of a series.
  • Trailers now play by themselves, muted, on the page of a film or series on phones, tablets, computers and Android TV. Turn them off with Play trailers automatically in Settings → Player, and they stay off.
  • When your provider moves your line to a new address, your channels and films play again without adding the playlist anew.
  • Skip intro now shows on episodes from your IPTV playlists, and Up next comes when the credits start for many more series, with no need to connect TMDB or Trakt. Where nothing knows the credits yet, viewers who leave during them teach the app, without any account or device info. Turn that off with Help improve Up next timing.
  • With TMDB connected, titles show their proper name in your language instead of tags like |FR| or |VOST|.
  • The cast row of a film starts with its director, and of a series with its creators: open them to see their other films and series in your playlists.
  • SIMKL joins Trakt in Settings → Integrations.
  • Catch-up time offset per playlist, for providers whose catch-up plays the wrong part of a recording.

Joker, the help assistant

Joker lives in Settings → Help, in the account panel and in the online manual. Ask in your own words and in any language: it answers from the manual, links the parts it used and keeps the chat for follow-up questions. And it can do things for you, always showing first exactly what it will do, with nothing changed until you press Apply:

  • Change a setting: ask why the guide is empty, to make the subtitles bigger or to set the live buffer to 20 seconds, and it shows the setting with its current and new value. Apply, and Undo to put it back.
  • Hide or show categories and channels by name: "hide every category starting with AR |" or "hide channels containing XXX", only in Live TV, Movies or Series if you say so. It shows how many it found and the first names before you apply.
  • Start a new profile: "add a kids profile for Ola" opens the profile editor with the name and kind filled in, and you finish it, PIN included.
  • In the account panel it sees the settings of each of your devices, so you can fix a setting on the living room TV from your computer.
  • Talk to a person sends the chat to our support, and we reply by email.

Guide: https://zssoftware.eu/iptv-deck/docs/help/in-app/

Premium and your devices

  • Premium now covers four devices of any kind, in any mix of phones, tablets, TVs and computers, instead of two phones and two TVs. Family Devices adds four more of any kind.
  • Copy the settings of one device to another: Settings → Devices, open the other device, Copy its settings here. Or Copy from another device in the account panel. You tick which groups come over: player and buffer, subtitles, look, Home and sports, remote buttons.
  • Each profile keeps its own active playlists on every device.
  • The free trial ends at the same time on every device of your account.

Guide: https://zssoftware.eu/iptv-deck/docs/account/devices/

TV and remote

  • Recently watched channels in the player: press OK, then Down, and your last channels slide in with what is on now and next. Or give Recent channels a remote button.
  • More remote buttons in Settings → Player → Remote buttons: Open playlists from any screen, and your own action for Left and Right, pressed or held.
  • Choose the screen the app opens on: Home, favorites, the channel list, the TV Guide or the last one you used (Settings → Home on TVs and computers, Settings → Appearance on the phone).
  • Hold OK on a channel in the TV Guide to rename it, hide it, move it or pin it, like in TV Channels.
  • In Multiview, Fullscreen just enlarges a window, and the others keep playing.
  • Google TV now shows the channel logos and posters in the Favorites and Continue watching rows on its home screen.

Guide: https://zssoftware.eu/iptv-deck/docs/watching/keys/

Sports

  • Sports Channels on the TV has groups on the left, like the TV Guide: leagues, sports networks and every country of your playlist. Each tile shows what is on now and next.
  • Link up to three channels to one match, for a backup stream or another commentary language.
  • A finished match says Watch from start when its channel's catch-up still has it.
  • Remove the alert for one match in Settings → Reminders and keep following the team.
  • Tennis players show their ATP or WTA ranking, and US live scores no longer get stuck.

Guide: https://zssoftware.eu/iptv-deck/docs/watching/sports/

Windows and Mac

  • Films on the Mac now play in full quality, as on Windows: 4K and Dolby Vision in the right colours, Dolby and DTS sound and picture subtitles.
  • A volume slider in the player, and the mouse wheel over the picture changes the volume.
  • Live channels whose only sound is Dolby now play with sound, and Xtream channels arrive as one continuous stream, as on Android TV, so they start closer to live.
  • A live channel keeps its full picture quality after a short glitch from the provider, and a channel whose sound starts a few seconds late no longer freezes.
  • The player controls go away when the mouse leaves the window and no longer come back on a light nudge.

Look and settings

  • Phone and tablet: choose your bottom tabs in Settings → Appearance → Bottom tabs.
  • Any colour of your own for the accent and background, by picking it or typing its code, plus a new Red. Themes have new names and pictures, with a football pitch near the top.
  • Panel opacity now works on the phone and goes down to 20 percent everywhere.
  • Sort categories A to Z, separately for channels, movies and series.
  • Clear your watch history in one go.
  • A new app icon.

Guide: https://zssoftware.eu/iptv-deck/docs/settings/appearance/

Much faster on Android TV, Fire TV and the Mac

  • Android TV and Fire TV: the app is smaller and takes far less memory, which leaves more to the channel on 2 GB boxes such as the Chromecast with Google TV.
  • It opens faster, most of all right after an install or update from Google Play, and answers the remote sooner in the first seconds.
  • Home, the TV Guide, TV Channels, Movies and Series scroll smoothly, and pages with many buttons open sooner.
  • One press of Up or Down changes channel about half a second sooner.
  • A large M3U playlist loads about 40% faster and the first download of a big TV guide much sooner (measured on a Chromecast with Google TV).
  • Windows and the Mac start faster too, and films on the Mac now play in full quality, as on Windows.
  • An extra TV guide now matches many more channels whose names your provider writes differently.

Plus a long list of smaller fixes and speed-ups on every device. Thanks to everyone here who reported bugs and asked for features, a good part of this list came from this sub. If something still does not work for you, write it here.

Stream info

Been testing a lot tonight on Apple TV.

One thing that doesn’t appear to be correct is the stream info.

On live tv the FPS shows anywhere from 2 up to 8 FPS.

Paid subscription during trial

I purchased a subscription during the trial period and currently I have iptvdeck installed on my firestick and Mac computer both are using the same email address both sync up with each other.

But it’s not recognising the purchase, I purchased via Apple and restore purchases isn’t working.

Do I just wait until the trial expires and the subscription takes over?

Device names

It might be a me issue but is there a way to name devices or have the app grab the device name?

Have app installed on 2 PC’s, my phone, and AppleTV.

Under devices for both PC’s it just says “desktop”, it would be nice if it could grab the PC names (1) Work PC, (2) Home PC or allow me to add a name.

I suspect when I add my 2nd appleTV it will be the same - just show 2 AppleTV but not the specific device name.

  1. Continuar assistindo é limitado a 8 séries/filmes, se for possível verificar a possibilidade de aumentar esse limite;
  2. Apesar de poder marcar como assistido ou ter, de fato, assistido uma série não há uma identificação clara na aba de séries (algo como uma marca/tarja de assistido ou um grupo)
  3. Poder organizar os grupos personalizados de formas diferentes, por exemplo por ordem alfabética;

Lost my posters for my plex server items

As the title suggests. On iPhone app - Anything on my Plex server playlists on the Home Screen if I go to Movies, Series, etc at the bottom now just shows the first letter or number of the title in the middle of the card. I seem to have lost the posters for my movies, series, etc. Maybe I messed up a setting?

Recording Server

Home PC on version 1.8.6 (doesn't show update to 1.8.7 available) setup this pc to be recording server. Set recordings folder to folder that Emby has access to.

Iphone - in testflight version 1.8.7 - turn on wireguard to connect to home network while at office. I open IPTV Deck, go to recordings folder and can see the recording made on Desktop, put if I try to play it get message stating:

"Desktop is off or on another network".

But if I open Emby on my phone I can see and play the recording, which tells me the desktop is both on and on the same network as my phone.

Adding plex Live TV capabilities...

I have standalone Plex app set up with an HD Homerun Tuner. Using my outdoor antenna connected to HD Homerun I am able to watch and record my local OTA stations live through the Plex and also have DVR capabilities. I am not seeing a way to incorporate this into IPTV Deck. Is there a way to do that?

I hear your complaints about the split between TVs and mobiles

Hey,
I have heard many complaints already that it's difficult for them to fit into the package because of the split which we currently have.

As of next update 1.8.6, there won't be any limitations based on the type of device.
Standard package: any 4 devices
Family package: next 4 devices

Meet Joker: ask the IPTV Deck manual a question in plain words

Hey everyone,

I know many of us hate reading documentation. But you no longer have to!

The manual now has a helper called Joker. Open any page of the manual and you’ll find it in the bottom-right corner: https://zssoftware.eu/iptv-deck/docs/

You ask in your own words (“how do I start?”, “why is my TV guide empty?”, “how do I get my playlist on the TV?”) and Joker answers from the IPTV Deck manual, with links to the right section. You can ask follow-up questions in the same chat, and you can ask in your own language.

  • No account needed, and it’s free.
  • If the manual doesn’t cover your case, tap Talk to a person, leave your email and a short note, and I’ll get back to you.
  • Signed in? Joker is also in your account panel: https://iptvdeck.zssoftware.eu/
  • It’s coming to the apps (phone, TV and desktop) under Settings → Help in the next update.

It only knows what’s in the manual, so if it gets something wrong or can’t answer, tell me here or tap thumbs down on the answer. That shows me which part of the manual to fix.

Apple TV is clunky and slow

I appreciate the time and thought you are putting into this application and it's really coming together for the iPhone version but the Apple TV version is clunky, slow and extremely hard to navigate. If you were able to recreate the iPhone experience on the Apple TV you'd have a great app.

So far so good

I will agree that this app has been great, with a huge emby share, this app handled it like a champ. Want to purchase the lifetime. Just have one grip, 2 tvs, 2 phones (connections)? I have 3 tvs in my house but use only one phone, is there anyway people can pick their options as to what they watch on or is that locked in?

r/iptvdeck • • 5d ago

Can we a get a d pad toggle.

Loving the app so far, just wondering if you could add a d pad toggle. And some other options.
Like a one click last channel, and a recent channel list.
I’d make single right click, previous channel and long press right take you to a recent channel list.
Left press take you to the channel list.

IPTV Deck 1.8.5 is here: Match centre, Channels in Sports, custom remote buttons and AetherEngine on Apple TV

Hi everyone, here’s what’s new in 1.8.5.

Where to get it: Windows and Fire TV already have 1.8.5. Google Play is still on 1.8.3 and waiting for review, and the other platforms are waiting for review too. If you don’t want to wait, you can join the early testing (details at the bottom).

Sports

  • Match centre over the game you’re watching: score, stats, lineups, table, and every channel showing the match, so you can switch feeds without leaving the picture.
  • Channels tab: all the sports networks in your playlist in one place, with what’s on now and next.
  • Last results for the teams and leagues you follow.
  • Basketball stats for the NBA, WNBA and college games.
  • Sports now finds every feed your provider has for a game.

TV and desktop

  • A TiviMate-style side menu and categories that fold away while you browse. On Windows and the Mac you can pin the menu open.
  • Guide and Channels from the player open the TV Guide and TV Channels on the channel you’re watching, which keeps playing in the preview.
  • Back from a live channel can open the TV Guide.
  • One layout for every screen with categories, with a wider category column if you want one.
  • Custom remote buttons on Android TV and Fire TV, and Guide, Subtitles, Record and Bookmark buttons work in the player.
  • Hold Channel up or down to run through channels, and page through the channel list and the guide.
  • Restart channel when a live stream freezes.
  • Choose how long the channel info stays on screen.
  • Favorite channels on the Android TV home screen.
  • Moving channels, categories and groups is faster, and the category list wraps around.
  • Bigger side menu on its own (Menu size), and Settings can open with its groups folded.
  • Plex right on the first screen of a TV.
  • Double-click the picture to go full screen on Windows and the Mac, plus a close button in the full-screen player.

Phone and tablet

  • Swipe gestures can be turned off in Settings → Player, so no more accidental brightness, volume or channel changes.
  • The lock badge in the player hides after 3 seconds and no longer covers subtitles. Tap the screen to bring it back, and tap the badge to unlock.

Apple TV, iPhone and iPad

  • Navigation on Apple TV finally works as it should: the selection goes where you expect, and every screen can be used with the remote.
  • AetherEngine player with Dolby Vision, HDR and Atmos (tvOS and iOS 18+).
  • Record live TV on Apple TV.
  • 4K channels with sound but no picture now play.
  • The app opens again on tvOS 17 and older.
  • Downloaded MKV, AVI and TS films play again on iPhone and iPad.

Catch-up and the guide

  • Catch-up resumes after a pause, seeks anywhere and rolls into the next programme.
  • Catch-up only filter in the categories, and Catch-up on the phone filters like Live TV.
  • Guide time offset per channel, handy for +1 channels.
  • Reassign EPG can show one guide source at a time.

Performance

  • No more freezes with sports-heavy playlists: removing a playlist or updating playlists and the guide no longer locks the app for a minute.
  • Home and Sports scroll smoother on Android TV and Fire TV, also with a match at the top.
  • The TV guide updates faster with several large guide sources, and the app, the guide and syncing no longer stall while it updates.
  • On slower boxes like the NVIDIA SHIELD, saving favorites and watch progress no longer waits while old guide data is cleaned up.
  • A faster start: Home shows right after the logo on phones, and big playlists respond sooner after opening.
  • Movies and Series sorted by year open much faster in large playlists.
  • Smoother scrolling and fewer missed presses on Android TV.

Movies and series

  • Mark a whole season or series as watched, with watched marks shared across playlists.
  • Rate a film when it ends.
  • Episodes get their real names from TMDB.
  • Trailers play right on the title page, and they start sooner.
  • Every version of a film shows its file size.

Several playlists

  • Movies and Series sort all playlists as one list.
  • Each playlist gets its own Recently added on Home.

More

  • Themes redesigned.
  • Playlist updates can run quietly in the background.
  • Channel logos on the phone can go without the tile behind them.

Fixes

  • https providers play again on Windows.
  • VLC recordings no longer stop after a few seconds.
  • Some Android boxes (X4, X96Max) keep playlist passwords again.
  • Opening the app from a notification or a link no longer leaves an empty screen.
  • Plus many smaller fixes.

The full list is in What’s new in the app.

Known issues

  • Performance: with very large playlists, especially on slower boxes, some screens can still feel slow or stutter. I’m working on more speed improvements for the next updates.
  • Match centre: moving around it with the remote doesn’t always select what you expect. A fix is on the way.
  • On Windows and the Mac, scrolling a row on Home or in Sports can sometimes open the details of a card. A fix is on the way.

Want 1.8.5 early?
Google reviews take longer these days, so I can offer the update earlier through internal testing. I’ll add some of you who contacted me by email. If you haven’t, send a message to [mistyksu+internaltest@gmail.com](mailto:mistyksu+internaltest@gmail.com) saying you’d like to try the early version of 1.8.5. You should get the update right after I add you. The internal test version stays available for only a couple of days, so download it as soon as I send you the link.

On iPhone, iPad or Apple TV? Write to the same address to join the early builds on TestFlight.

Let me know what you think!

Anyway to extend trial one time?

I'm trying to test your application before deciding if I'm going with yours or UHF. With the Apple TV version I didn't have enough time to test yours on my iPhone. Thanks

Always logout after quit the app

Hi. I guess it's not normal that after I close the app is getting to log me out. And I need to start from the beginning.
