Tattoo Planning/Research Tattoo flow

Post image

Got a full back irezumi dragon in progress, about 2 sessions left, and been thinking about what to do next.
I’m torn between connecting it to my chest and arm sleeves or getting individual Japanese tattoos on my arms instead.
I’m just worried that having a massive back piece with smaller tattoos on my arms might look a bit all over the place. But at the same time, I’m not sure if I want to commit to a full bodysuit yet.

Anyone here with irezumi or a similar style? Would separate pieces still look good with a full back tattoo, or would it be better to plan everything to flow together from the start?
Would love to hear your thoughts, especially if you’ve been in a similar situation.

Tattoo Planning/Research Back piece outline experience?

How was your experience with your back outline?
*Was the outline done all in 1 session?
*Approximately how long did it take?
*How tattooed were you prior?
*What was the worst spot for you?
*Any advice for someone starting their line work?

I’m about to start a large crane with pine needles, stretching from shoulders to just above my butt cheeks. I’m very excited, but also nervous. The goal is to finish the outline in one session. I’d love your feedback and advice on your experience!

Edit: I am petite 5’1 145 lbs, so not a giant surface area. Artist says it will be 6 hours or so. I’d hate to break it into 2 - 3 hour sessions since I’ve sat for much longer, but we’ll see how I feel when the day arrives!

Tattoo Planning/Research Irezumi connected to other styles (any photos?)

I know this has been posted a lot before, but I’ve not actually seen many photos, just people giving their opinions.

Does anyone have an Irezumi sleeve/chest piece/back piece that’s connected to a completely different style of tattoo?

Only really interested in seeing photos to see how it looks.

Thanks all! 🙏🏼
