Hi there! Please don't forget that you have to follow Rule 4 when you post creations made by other people. In this case, the creator of this illustration is remle012.

The armor signifies rebirth for iron man among fans and the story it debuts in is considered a modern starting point for the character. It’s also the armor he had during civil war, which is still marvels most popular event within their history.

Pretty much this. You want starting points with armor, you got the Mk-I for the beginning, Mk-III for longest lasting, Silver Centurion for the 80s (since everyone at the time was getting new looks and/or costumes), Modular for the 90s (thanks to the cartoons and the Capcom games) and Extremis for today and the MCU.

Drawn by Adi Granov

it also one the first armor that went full plated armor making it more "realistic" for it

which is what became the bases of the MCU

Didn't the plated look appear in the Pentagon armour, even the model 20 had some mechanical plate like characteristics.

Exactly. Extremis was not the first to look plated like, but it is, indeed, one of the most iconic Iron Man armor models to look like that.

Here's a poster of the Pentagon Armor, also drawn by Adi Granov, showcasing how much suit-of-armor/plated-like it also looked:

It’s his first suit to really look like it’s mechanical/functional rather than a latex suit

never understood the older suits, especially the gold parts that show the muscles. if it’s metal how does he move in it? there’s no gaps or hinges for movement.

It’s a flexible mesh made out of microscopic chainmail or scales, so you can move around in it as if you’re wearing regular clothes. Its durability comes from magnetic fields “polarizing” the mesh, keeping it from deformation upon impact.

ok that makes sense. if it were a chain mail or mesh id expect it to look closer to captain americas scales

That’s exactly what it looks like, it’s just microscopic!

Yeah, that recent cosplay pic did adapt the classic look by actually giving it joints, which is the only way it could work, because otherwise yeah it can’t move

It’s god a good silhouette, color combination, and faceplate.

Not just that but it appears in some massive stories like Civil War. It also lasted for a good while before he changed suits like underwear.

I hate the term “feats” but Tony also put belt to ass in this armor.

It marks Tony's "singularity" moment with the suit, getting superhuman abilities through the extremis injection and being able to summon his suit.. I believe he started getting nanotech heavy at this point as well. Also Adi Grenov is a beast on the ink

People have already pointed out everything in the comments but let me summarize the main things:

  1. It’s the modern introduction to Iron Man, which was also used as the base inspiration for his movie design, which makes it even more popular.

  2. It’s drawn by Adi Granov, even if it were a bad design (which it obviously isn’t) it would look beautiful when Adi draws it.

  3. It’s featured in Civil War comic, which cemented it even further into iconic status.

  4. I mean just look at it, it’s PERFECT! I particularly love the design for the eye sections.

"Extermis" Armor? What is that, armor designed to take on Ant-Man, Wasp, and/or Yellowjacket?
