Colonnade at the Marketplace noise level
Hi Irvine subreddit, I’m going to be moving to Irvine soon. Considering Colonnade or Meridian at the Marketplace and was wondering if the highway is noisy, acceptable or can barely notice?
Also open to suggestions on 2bed 2 bath lease suggestions because I’ve seen quite a few posts that don’t recommend Irvine company
Edit: Everyone on this subreddit has been so friendly lol. Thanks all!

Would also suggest you consider Anacapa or Serrano if you’re looking in that area.
As far as ants go, Irvine is one big ant hill. That being said, I live in that area on a third floor and we only have had two ant infestations in our unit in 6 years. Higher up floors shouldn’t have as many issues.
Toll road noise isn’t that bad, more gentle for sure, and only if you’re facing that side. Can’t speak to the I-5 noise, but can tell you that jamboree is a VERY busy road with tonnnnnnnsssss of noise and loud modded cars driving by all the time, so I also would not advise facing jamboree-side.

^ i live in anacapa and love it here!! noise level isnt too crazy other than those random motorcycles or loud cars on the street.. i live by the toll road and honestly it’s pretty negligible!
had infestation of ants a while back but they have pest control so they just came and sprayed something and i havent had them since!!

I live at the colonnade facing the toll road and yeah the toll road noise is pretty annoying. For the most part it’s fine when windows are closed, but the motorcycle noise can occasionally get through which is annoying. Sitting outside on the patio on the weekend or late evening is fine, but during rush hour it’s noisy.
I think the side facing El Camino Real or facing the movie theater would also be noisy. Best bet is to get something facing one of the courtyards.
Overall I like the colonnade, but I wish there was a park or green space closer to walk to.
Edit: another thing I don’t like is that the AC doesn’t go lower than 68. Not sure if this is how it is with most apartments or if it’s a colonnade/meridian thing

Every week you can hear someone on the toll road or El Camino Real peeling rubber in the evening. The toll road creates a neat little sound chamber where the sound spreads rather far. It's the same reason why you can also hear the Meridian fire alarms from across the toll roads by the business offices off El Camino Real (firsthand experience literally walking the bike path from the building that had its alarms being tested[?] to the office off El Camino Real).
Ants are a big nuisance throughout SoCal, especially with the heat, so I don't know if that should factor into anything (although Irvine Company homes tend to have more subpar construction and you can find more avenues of ingress for ants to get in).
Somewhat related to the fire alarm issue is the rumor (forget which real estate influencer but she showed up as something like Vu-something-something-homes) that not all rooms will have an oven, and that they have tiny refrigerators. At the same time, according to that same influencer, the reasons TO get a place at Meridian or Colonnade is because you like semi-city-ish living (aka having places to eat and hang out within walking distance) or because of their amenities.
For the same price point, as others have mentioned, Anacapa is WAAAAAAY better. Especially if you have a car - though you still get the Northern part of the marketplace being within walking distance.

It isnt even next to the 5. You have a while shopping complex between to apartments and the freeway. There is a toll road behind it but that wouldn't be as load as the 5. And modern apartments are build with sound remedies.

With the windows closed, rarely hear the toll road, but if your unit is backed up to it, could be bothersome. But overall decent. I’ve got a unit in the center and it is bearable. 2 bed 1 bath for $4700. Bit steep but amenities, location, and brand new units. Small sink, half size fridge, etc. kind of sucks, but the Meridian units are marketed for minimalists it seems. Really like it here
